In his lifetime, Germany-born Lasch was a pediatrician who for much of his professional life worked for the Israeli government, helping the medical situation in Gaza.
Lasch eventually began practicing spiritual regression therapy and had a well-known fascination with reincarnation, which was how he came to witness the story of the three-year-old boy.
A community in the region known as the Druze invited Lasch into their group. The Druze religious sect is found in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Israel as well as scattered locations around the world.
