Eyeball, or scleral, tattooing is a relatively new form of self-expression practiced by body modification enthusiasts with nerves of steel. It first came on the scene in 2007, and if you can stomach it, the risky sounding process involves injecting the scleral – the white bit of the eye – with ink. The results vary from terrifying to eerily beautiful; U.K.-based tattoo artist Grace Neutral showcases the latter here.

London-based handpoke tattoo specialist Grace Neutral says that she spent almost 12 months debating whether or not to tattoo her eyes. In 2014 she told i-D, “It’s definitely not something to take lightly… People should do their research before getting it done.”
