Erik Johansson isn’t your average photographer. The Swede may not have received much professional training, but he’s managed to carve out a niche that’s making waves in the picture-taking world. Johansson doesn’t just snap photos; he visualizes concepts and ideas, combining the magic of Photoshop manipulation with a vivid imagination. His surreal creations will challenge you as much as they’ll wow you.
A long-time interest in drawing and nature, coupled with his purchasing of a digital SLR camera in the mid 2000s, inspired Johansson – who studied computer engineering at university – to take up photography. And, specifically, photo manipulation.
Fast forward a decade and the photographer, who splits his time between his native Sweden and the Czech Republic, has well and truly perfected his art. From giant guitar-strings-cum-power-lines to Scandinavian islands perched atop giant fish, his manipulated images are jaw-droppingly arresting.
