19. Folly Beach Monster
South Carolina residents got a shock in 2012 when a huge, scaly mass washed up on Folly Beach. Alas, though, it wasn’t a prehistoric monster or Godzilla’s tail; the armadillo-lizard lookalike was identified as an endangered Atlantic sturgeon, which is a primitive bony-plated fish. Even with the mystery solved, though, the size of this thing is still impressive.
