The State Mine fire had some terrible consequences for the people living in the area. Ten communities were affected, and most of the area had to be evacuated. Despite the best efforts of the fire services, residences were destroyed, and the historic Zig Zag Railway, which was built in the 1920s, was largely annihilated. In the end, the fire ran through 140,000 acres (55,000 hectares) of land.

Another major fire was the Springwood Fire, which started on October 17 in the town of the same name. In this case, the cause was power lines damaged by the strong winds. The blaze overran more than 8,600 acres (3,500 hectares), wrecking 193 properties and prompting evacuations.
