Youngster Sophia Chiappalone was set to undergo life-threatening surgery in November 2017. However, a few weeks before that, her mom made a wish come true.
For parents across the world, there are few things worse than watching your child fall ill. Kristy Somerset-Chiappalone can certainly attest to that, as her five-year-old daughter Sophia required life-threatening surgery in November 2017. However, before the operation, she made one of Sophia’s wishes come true.
A resident of Wallingford, Connecticut, Kristy is a single mother taking care of her three daughters, after divorcing her husband some time ago. However, her life changed forever after the birth of her youngest child Sophia, with doctors quickly picking up on a major problem.
“[Sophia] was born with half of a heart,” Kristy told NBC CT in October 2017. “The whole right side of her heart was missing.” As a result of that, the youngster’s heart didn’t connect to her pulmonary arteries, meaning the blood couldn’t reach her lungs.
