When Nebraska medic Dr. Jorge Sotolongo delivered a baby via C-section in August 2017, he had no idea about the chain reaction to follow. Once the baby had been delivered safely, the obstetrician gynecologist could have expected to wash his hands and say goodbye to the family. But the new dad had other ideas, and what he told Sotolongo stunned him so much that it left him powerless to speak.
Kyle Smith was the new dad in question and is one half of a young couple from Omaha, the largest conurbation in the Cornhusker State. Smith, 23, lives in the city with his 21-year-old partner, Kristina McIntosh. In 2017 the pair were expecting a baby, but they had no expectation of the revelation the birth of their little one would bring about.
McIntosh had been pregnant with the couple’s first child since late the previous year. Pregnancy is an exciting time for any expectant mom and dad, and the months leading up to the birth are filled with preparations and planning. But nothing could have prepared Smith and McIntosh for the amazing piece of happenstance awaiting them.
