But despite never really having been tempted to munch back into the meaty stuff of her own accord, Catcher became curious. Originally from the South, she’d heard family members frequently praise the fleshy delights that she was missing – particularly barbecued meat. And so a challenge came into Catcher’s mind.
Some 16 years after giving up eating meat, Catcher decided that she would try turning carnivore for a week. During those seven days she would sample different meats for the first time in more than a decade and a half to test how she reacted. The writer also planned to blog about how her body was affected by the radical change in diet. Her main objective? For her not to get sick!
As a 30-year-old woman who had spent more than half her lifetime as a vegetarian, Catcher was, however, going back on a promise to her former teenage self. Although, that said, she’s admitted to having occasionally eaten fish since 2016, explaining, “Technically, that makes me a pescatarian.” Nonetheless, 16 years is a long time – so would her body reject red meat? In July 2017 it was time for her to find out.
