In June this year, Korey was, once again, in the salon chair. As Phillips sectioned her hair to apply the trademark red dye, she noticed a mark on Korey’s scalp. Phillips explains, “Because we take such little partings on our touch-ups and on our highlights, we can see pretty much the whole entire scalp.”

What Phillips spotted worried her. Since she had not noticed it the previous month when she was styling Korey’s red locks, she knew she had to speak up. She asked her client, “Did you hit your head?” She then added, “I see something here and I don’t like what I see.”

Since Phillips’ sister works in dermatology as a nurse, the hair stylist already has some knowledge of unusual skin conditions. Therefore, she knows how to check her clients for odd marks when doing their hair. Phillips told Today, “They have no clue what is going on, I am always looking.”
