This story took place in the small town of Grass Valley in Nevada County in northeastern California. Known primarily for its history as a California Gold Rush town, Grass Valley is home to an 850-acre park housing a preserved Empire Mine – among the largest and richest gold mines in North American history. It is also home to the Holiday Lodge motel.
