A scientific list of the best of the environmental blogs on the web

We’ve been doing a lot of blog reading lately, and we’ve decided to make a list of the top 10 environmental blogs online. We know there have already been a few, notably from readwriteweb and doshdosh, however, we have taken more of a scientific approach to our top 10. With the help of SEO legend David Eaves, we looked at recent Digg homepages, Yahoo linking, and authority points and we came up with a scientific list of the best of the environmental blogs.

10.EcoStreet
EcoStreet is a green community, blog, and directory that aims to raise green consciousness. They’ve been publishing since 2002.

9. Gristmill
Gristmill is a part of Grist Magazine. The blog provides a daily environmental news feed.

8. Environmental Graffiti
What? You thought we were going to leave ourselves out of our own list? Don’t worry, we’ll be partial. Started in May 2007 in Oxford, this incredibly awesome blog covers everything from Politics to Green Living, but specializes particularly in Ecology and Offbeat news for the environmental community. Famous readers include Bono, Al Gore, and Jesus*.
*This has not technically been proven, but let us dream.

7. The Oil Drum
The Oil Drum is a community discussing, you guessed it, oil and energy issues. They cover peak oil, sustainable development, renewable energy, and pretty much anything else you can think of related to energy and the environment.

6. Green Options
This general environmental blog is based in Berkeley, CA. The blog has a large community, and is dedicated to environmental education and discussion.

5. World Changing
World Changing’s articles cover tools and ideas to help build a better future. Their content is very future oriented, and runs the gamut from eco and future friendly housing to urban planning.

4. Real Climate
Real Climate specializes in climate science news with a twist. Most of its content is written by actively working climate scientists. If you need scientific commentary on climate change, this is the place.

3.EcoGeek
The name says it all for this tech oriented blog. EcoGeek specializes in writing about environmentally friendly technology. If you’re looking for info on anything from solar iPods to electric cars, this is the place.

2. Inhabitat
As its title would suggest, Inhabitat is one of the foremost blogs on green architecture and design. They frequently cover articles on sustainable architecture, green living, and green design.

1. Treehugger
The big daddy of environmental blogs, Treehugger is one of the most read blogs on any subject. It covers most everything environmental, from green news to eco-design and green products. Discovery Channel liked them so much they recently bought Treehugger for a cool $10 million.
