After winning various junior tennis tournaments, Kournikova turned pro in 1995. She subsequently competed in the U.S. Open at just 15 years of age. What’s more, Kournikova made it all the way through to the fourth round, in what was a clear statement of intent by the talented youngster.
And that proved to be a sign of things to come, as Kournikova took the circuit by storm thanks to her performances in 1996’s Wimbledon championship. She reached the semi-finals there, before going on to pick up the doubles trophy with Martina Hingis at the Australian Open in 1999 and 2002.
