15. Spice Girls – “2 Become 1”
“2 Become 1” is the Spice Girls’ agonizing 1996 paean to safe sex, with “safe” being the operative word. Given their teen fanbase, there was no chance the girls could ever get graphic, but the track’s definitely too PG-13 to make statements like “I wanna make love to you, baby” anything other than total cringe. Let’s just say that Barry White probably had no sleepless nights at the time.
14. Backstreet Boys – “As Long As You Love Me”
“I don’t care who you are, where you’re from, what you did, as long as you love me,” sing the Backstreet Boys in their 1997 single cleverly entitled “As Long As You Love Me.” Those words radiate some rather embarrassing desperation, for sure, but they’re also totally disingenuous. That is, unless the boys would in all honesty embrace a genocidal maniac just because they loved them.
