You might not instantly recognize Sean Lennon and James McCartney, but these two particular musicians broke the internet when they posed for a selfie together in the summer of 2018. And the reason? Both their fathers played in the biggest band in rock and roll history. Here’s a look at the pair’s iconic musical roots.

The Beatles came together in their Liverpool hometown at the turn of the 1960s. Just a few years later, Beatlemania took over the world, thanks to the guidance of manager Brian Epstein. Albums such as Rubber Soul, Revolver and Abbey Road then helped transform them from a pure pop act into highly credible and innovative rock and roll icons.

The group split in 1970 but continued to be a significant inspiration for decades to come.
