Publisher FAQ
What’s Scribol then?
Scribol is a utility that connects you to the content you love and in the process drives traffic back to the people who created it.
At Scribol we believe the most effective way to discover content is when you’re already reading an article or looking at a video, because when you’ve gotten to the end of the article or have finished watching your video, what do you do? You can comment, share it with your friends or simply leave the site. Wouldn’t it be better if you could find awesome new content tailored to you?
What Scribol does is provide publishers with a module, which displays recommended stories from partners in our network that are targeted both editorially and algorithmically to the themes and audience of your site by our recommendation engine.
So what does this do for my traffic?
When a user clicks on our module, they get taken to a hub with even more great recommendations. Our users are so engaged that they typically click on more than three stories each which take them to three separate sites i.e. one click on a Scribol module equates to roughly three visits on other publishers’ websites. The same thing is happening on the other side – so we’re able to send multiple visits into your site for every click you send out.
Because of our powerful targeting technology, combined with the fact that we only work with the highest quality websites (90% of applications are declined), users’ time on site, page views per visit and repeat visits are significantly higher than other referrers. Our goal is not just to build traffic but to build audience.
Do you have content for … ?
We cater for the full spectrum of online content – whatever your niche we’ve got sites whose users would love to read your content. If you produce high quality editorial (whether it be in the form of illustrated articles, videos or images) then we’d love to have you on the network. My module
Where do I get my module code?
If you log into your profile there is a tab marked My Sites. Here you can find the Add Module tab, which contains the module editor. Using the editor you can customize the module to fit your site, choosing the layout and size of stories, the color of the module and the size and font of text used. When you’re done just press Save Module & Get Code.
How do I install the module?
Once you’ve got your module code you just need to paste it into your theme (in the single.php/post.php file if in Wordpress) in the place that you want it to appear. That’s all you have to do! As soon as we start seeing clicks coming in we’ll start driving traffic back.
Where should I put my module?
Modules outside the normal content area may work but will often be viewed as advertising or page furniture – and be ignored. Through testing we’ve identified that by putting the module immediately below content, users, who are engaged and looking for more stories, will grab links if you give them to them. Our best performing partners put the module immediately below content.
Can I choose what content appears in my module?
We will set up your module to display content that is relevant to your site, but if you want to see something
different, or if there’s something you think your users would be more likely to click on, just let us know
and we can make it happen – you can reach us here:
Will the module slow down my site?
No – the module runs through asynchronous JavaScript so it will be the last element to load on your page. That means that it will never slow down anything else.
Will posting a Scribol module affect my SEO?
No. Our code is JavaScript and rendered in a format so that machines can’t read it. In addition, all links are redirected, meaning that Scribol modules appear much like ads to search engines.
Who decides which of my links show up?
Our editorial team handles every story that goes up on the network. If you would like particular stories to be featured just enter them into the system by pressing the Posts tab and we’ll make sure that they are at the front of the queue.
I’m not seeing my own links in my module…
Your module will only display links from others site, meaning that every click sent in is a new, fresh user who has yet to hit your content.
Submitting stories
Do I have to submit my own links?
No you don’t, but you’re welcome to. Our editorial team will follow your RSS feed to make sure that we’re getting your best content up on the network. However, if you want to make sure that particular stories are featured just enter them into the system by pressing the Posts tab and we’ll make sure that they are at the front of the queue.
When will you publish my submitted stories?
We primarily aim to publish content when your ratio drops – pushing out more stories so we can push more traffic back to you. Because of this we may not get submitted stories up immediately but we’ll make sure that when we’re publishing content that they’re at the front of the queue. If you’ve told us you want a story published then we’re very unlikely to ever reject it.
And finally…
How do I reach you?
