Rebekah Aversano meets Richard Norris.

In spring 2015 Rebekah Aversano walked up to the front door of the Virginia home with butterflies in her stomach. After all, she had not seen the face of her brother in almost three years – and possibly thought she never would again. But despite Aversano’s nerves, when she stepped inside and encountered Richard Norris, she immediately enveloped him in a tender embrace.

Aversano tentatively touched Norris’ face and said, simply, “Gosh.”

What’s more, one of the first things that Aversano wanted to do following their hug was to caress her brother’s face. “Can I touch it?” she asked Norris. “Of course you can,” Norris replied, leaning his head to one side.

“It’s amazing,” said Aversano after stroking Norris’ hair and face.

Norris patiently kept his head still while Aversano slowly touched both sides of her brother’s face and ran her fingers softly through his hair. “That is the skin of my brother,” she marveled.
