When Curtis Harper entered a boxing ring one night in August 2018, spectators in the arena and at home were no doubt looking forward to a great fight. But the anticipated contest came to an abrupt end as Harper exited the stadium after just one second. The crowd then understandably became unhappy, and later Harper’s explanation left everyone floored.
Curtis “The Hurt” Harper is a heavyweight boxer who’s based in Jacksonville, Florida. He has a pretty passable fight record of 13 wins – including nine knockouts – to just six defeats. So, as you can see, he’s a worthy opponent in the ring.
It was perhaps for that reason, then, that promoters wanted to arrange a fight between Harper and up-and-coming professional Efe Ajagba. This Nigerian boxer had previously made a name for himself on the world stage in 2016 at the Rio Summer Olympics. For while he didn’t actually medal at the games, the boxer did take gold at the preceding 2016 African Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament.
