A local news cameraman gets very close to the boiling lava.

Thrainsson is no stranger to enduring tough conditions while on his photographic expeditions, either. By way of example, his impressive portfolio features images of spectacular cyan-tinged ice caves and, elsewhere, Icelandic horses battling through the snow. Furthermore, Thrainsson also runs photography classes for like-minded shutterbugs hoping to take the best shots of Iceland’s glorious waterfalls, seascapes and mountains.

Unfortunately, many have lost their lives when getting close to fearsome eruptions such as this one.

It’s Thrainsson’s habit of going face-to-face with violently erupting volcanoes, though, which has caught the eye of the media and dropped jaws around the world. He even admitted to the Daily Mail that “going back to normal landscape photography is just boring” after taking such exceptional images.
