Part Of Cara Delevingne’s Weird And Wacky LA Mansion Is Causing A Stir Among Fans

Cara Delevingne is not one to shy away from the bizarre. Remember the rainbow ensemble she wore to 2019’s Met Gala? The one with a headpiece featuring false teeth, a fried egg, and bananas? Yep, the eccentric British supermodel is definitely fond of embracing a wacky theme! And while her house is just as crazy, there’s one feature in particular that’s raising eyebrows…

All-access tour

In summer 2021 Delevingne opened the doors of her LA pad to Architectural Digest, giving fans an all-access tour of the place she calls home. The supermodel purchased the mansion for around $7 million in 2019, and now the quirky house is bursting with art, plants, and games as well as a few more peculiar pieces. So, what are you waiting for? Come on in, and let’s start rooting around!

First impressions

If you’re lucky enough to be invited for tea at Delevingne’s house, you’ll be greeted by some interesting security guards. Two stone lions stand either side of the big blue doors to the model’s home. “They’re my spirit animal,” she explains to AD. Makes sense to us!

Jungle fever

Equally huge are the windows framing the doors, and they offer a tantalizing glimpse into the unusual abode. What do you see when you peek through the glass? Plants growing tall. It’s all a part of what Delevingne calls her “jungle theme.” And if you push the large gold door handle, you’ll see it for yourself...

Plants galore

To say that Delevingne is a foliage fan is a bit of an understatement. “Plants galore” is how she describes her home to AD. Upon entry, you’re immediately greeted by multiple bouquets sitting rather grandly on the entrance table. And vases of flowers cover surfaces all over the house. That’s a lot of watering to do!

Hypnotic art

It’s also hard to miss the statement art by James Turrell. “This is one of my favorite art pieces in the house,” Delevingne tells AD, and we can see why. It’s a bright, glowing, fantastical work. Mesmerizing, too. “I just tend to kind of stand in front of it and stare at it,” she adds.

Outside inside

Next, we head into Delevingne’s living room, which has a pretty strong wallpaper game. The bright pink Gucci design – emblazoned with herons and dragonflies – wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste, but the model calls it “one of [her] favorites.” And don’t forget to look up at the unusual cream-and-green lattice on the ceiling. “I really love it,” Delevingne adds. “It reminds me of being outside!”

Blighty

Meanwhile, the crown motif cushions on the sofa nod to Delevingne’s native U.K. And, so, apparently, does the chandelier. “This is one of my favorite pieces in the room,” she says, referring to the lights that are bound together by, er, horse straps. “It reminds me of being in England. I don’t know why!” We think it complements the blue table – which is decorated with a huge vase of peonies – pretty nicely.

Tea time

Feeling hungry? Luckily, the living room leads on to the kitchen, which catches the eye with a lot of striking deep blue. A vase of pink flowers also brightens up the kitchen island. And we mustn’t forget the big gold lights. We’re sensing a bit of a color theme here...

Banana mania

The next room on our tour is the main dining area. And you’ll want to put your shades on before you step in. Those eight chairs around the glass dining table are a stunning bright yellow! In the center, a bouquet of flowers adds just a little more yellow to the room. The whole space is also illuminated by an asymmetric gold light fitting.

Golden girl

But there’s a method behind Delevingne’s color madness. Apparently, the people who lived here before the model were big monochrome fans. “It was very black and white,” Delevingne tells AD. “I wanted to brighten everything up.” Mission accomplished, we think!

Scooting around

The decor is not the only thing that Delevingne has modernized. “This house has very hard floors, so when you step on the floor too much it hurts your feet,” she complains to AD. Her solution? “I got a little mini Razor scooter so I could scoot from my bedroom to the kitchen.” That’s one way of getting around!

Adult playhouse

On that note, next up is the drawing room – or the games room, as Delevingne calls it. “It’s kind of like an adult playhouse,” she admits to AD. The Playboy-themed pinball machine also leads her to reveal, “Hugh Hefner is a big inspiration for this house… This kind of feels like my Playboy mansion!” Delevingne claims to play the transparent piano here naked. We’re sure Hef would approve...

Bowie crazy

Another big inspiration for Delevingne is David Bowie. And the model has a “shrine” to him in, er, her bathroom. There’s even a cast of Ziggy Stardust’s face mounted on the wall. “This is my favorite bathroom in the house,” she says, and it’s easy to see why. We’re particularly partial to the lightning-shaped wall feature.

The boudoir

Next up is the bedroom. Delevingne says, “Every time I walk in here, I feel calm again,” which is surprising given the busy wallpaper. There’s yet another piano here, too, which Delevingne admits “makes [her] feel really happy.” “I wake up and I just play,” she adds. And, of course, there are some urns containing sprawling plants.

Furry friends

Delevingne shares her peculiar home with her dogs Leo and Alfie. And they’re some spoiled pups! For example, they have their own mini staircase to climb up to Delevingne’s bed. “Or just my stairs if I need help getting into the bed,” the model jokes.

Shoes and clothes

As you would expect, Delevingne has a wardrobe bursting with clothes. We wonder if that Met Gala outfit is in there somewhere? Her shoe cupboard mainly contains sneakers, boots, and “one or two” pairs of heels, as the model tells AD. But perhaps less is more. The heels she shows us are a platform pair bedazzled with rainbow studs on the heel.

Bath time

Fancy a quick dip? “This bathtub is everything!” Delevingne says to AD. And right next to it, there’s a TV for the model to watch while she soaks. We’re not so keen on the massive window, though. “It’s quite scary for the gardener who sees me stark naked. I forget to put down the shade sometimes!” Delevingne admits.

Pool shark

The model’s house also boasts an impressive vintage pool table, lit by a tumbling avant-garde chandelier. “I’m pretty good at pool, so watch out everybody!” Delevingne warns AD. We’re not surprised. We’d be spending a lot of time in that gorgeous room if we were her. And her preferred cue? A customized pink one, of course!

Escape route

The pool room even features a secret door concealed in the wall. “I love things like escape rooms,” Delevingne tells AD, which probably explains the number of secret passageways in her home. “That was kind of a lot of inspiration for this house!”

A creative hand

Mind you, Delevingne had help in putting together her eclectic home. She credits architect Nicoló Bini as the mastermind behind the whole thing. “He made all of my mad, crazy ideas come to life!” the star tells AD. “I’d say if I was Alice in Wonderland, he’d be the Mad Hatter!”

Crazy ideas

Apparently, Delevingne thought Bini would veto some of her plans. And we’re pretty surprised he went along with this next one: a vagina-themed tunnel, complete with pink feathers and velvet walls. Weirdly, it all leads to a pink washing machine. “I come in here to think. I come in here to create,” Delevingne explains. “I feel inspired in the vagina tunnel.” No wonder this got fans talking!

Corridor of heaven

But it’s not just the rooms that Delevingne has honed. Even the corridor is something special! There’s some more Gucci wallpaper, this time in green. The walls are also mounted with a Chanel surfboard, which is backlit to impressive effect. “If I were to go surfing, I would only surf with Chanel,” the model jokes.

What’s the theme?

So, what’s the theme of the house, then? “It’s not Alice in Wonderland,” Delevingne tells AD. “There’s like a jungle theme. There’s Beverly Hills hotel. There’s an old English style in here, but also very typically LA and plants galore. It’s still jungle, but I definitely think it’s a bit more mad.” Confused? Us too! But we think that sums it up pretty well.

Outside time

Next up is what Delevingne refers to as her “garden sanctuary” – complete with lemon and orange trees and, of course, plenty of plants. There’s a calming blue and white theme going on, along with large curtains and a relaxing table area. “This is an extremely peaceful area for me,” says Delevingne, who enjoys spending time here in the morning.

Hats off!

And the fun doesn’t stop when you climb the stairs. On the landing, you’re greeted by a mirrored, zig-zag shelving unit full of hats. Delevingne explains to AD, “In my job and everything I do, I have to wear a lot of different hats. So, I thought anyone who comes upstairs, you have to get a different hat… There’s a hat for every occasion!” Sounds fun!

Patterns

There are also some pretty impressive patterns going on. “This is my favorite wallpaper!” Delevingne claims of the floral print in yet another bathroom. Hang on a minute, hasn’t she said that before? The design is by the British artist Jonathan Yeo and it is pretty amazing, so we’ll let her off this time.

Having a laugh

Continuing on with the fun theme, Delevingne’s house also has a costume cupboard. That contains masks, a tiara, and even a pair of fake breasts. Yes, you read that right! “Everyone needs to get out of their heads and just have a laugh,” the model explains.

Poker face

And as Delevingne’s house is full of games, it’s no surprise that she has a poker room – inspired, she says, by David Lynch. “This is where I take people’s money,” Delevingne jokes. We’re not surprised with all the practice she can get in.

Ball pit

Delevingne also has a pit filled with bright pink and white balls. “Everyone needs to have a ball pit in a near vicinity,” she says to AD. “It doesn’t matter what age you are.” And apparently it’s especially helpful if you’re the anxious type. “You can’t cry in a ball pit. I’ve tried. If you cry jumping into a ball pit, honestly, you feel like an idiot. Every stress I’ve ever had has just gone into the balls. The balls hold the stress now,” Delevingne claims. Where can we sign up?!

Movie time

“I’m a big movie freak,” Delevingne tells AD. No surprise, then, that she has her own movie room. There’s a projector screen that comes down from the ceiling and a large corner sofa with colorful cushions. “You just get cozy and have a marathon of movies,” the model continues. “On this screen specifically, watching anything David Attenborough… is crazy!”

At the bar

Oh, and Delevingne has a bar near the home movie theater, which is pretty handy. The surrounding foliage continues the jungle theme, and the pink neon sign at the back just adds that extra element of cool. Frankly, we’re envious.

Tetris time

And if you wanted anything to do while having a drink? Delevingne has the perfect solution! She owns an arcade machine, which she claims “has every single arcade game you could ever want.” Yes, that includes Tetris and Pac-Man. It stands close to a vintage jukebox, too. “I picked out all of these 45s myself,” Delevingne adds.

With the band

“This is my band room. This is where I like to play musical instruments!” Delevingne tells AD. She’s decent at the drums, the piano, and the guitar, which is pretty impressive! Even more impressive? She has a guitar gifted to her by Karl Lagerfeld, the late creative director of Chanel, and one signed by David Bowie.

Tickled pink

Another secret door leads to a velvety room. “I call this the pink room!” the model says. “This is kind of a little more sexy.” It includes fluffy pillows, a swing, and, um, a mirrored ceiling. “Everything you can touch... it’s all very touchy,” Delevingne adds.

Bounce away

A little too much for you? Then let’s head outside. Delevingne’s seating area in the yard has a giant parrot watching over her. There’s a massive colorful Jenga set, too. “I spend a lot of time out here,” Delevingne says, “because I could be trampolining!” Yep, the star has two trampolines sunk into the grass – as you do.

Mad Hatter’s retreat

Delevingne’s garden also has a funky outdoor tented pavilion. “This is definitely Alice in Wonderland,” she tells AD. “If you take a look inside, it’s insane. It’s so beautiful!” It’s also filled with intricate lights, but that’s not enough for Delevingne. “I want to figure out how to put a laser show on in here,” she says.

Pool party

Yup, Delevingne has definitely put her own unique stamp onto her quirky home. But what initially drew her to the property? “This pool was one of the reasons why I bought the house,” she tells AD. And in true Delevingne style, she’s filled it with unicorn and rainbow inflatables.

Happy place

“Everything about this house was different to every other house I’d seen,” Delevingne adds. And she’s made it even more unusual with her choice of decor. But is she pleased with the results? “This house is one of my favorite places to be,” Delevingne says. We’ll take that as a yes!

Free, fun spirit

Architect Bini has to take some credit, of course, although he’s very complimentary of his client. In July 2021 he told the Daily Mail that Delevingne “has a fantastic way of understanding the rules and then wanting to break them. She’s a free, fun spirit, and this house radiates that.” And with the secret tunnels, trampolines, and ball pit, there’s certainly lots to keep you entertained in this house of fun!
