40 Cats That Were Caught In The Wrong Place At The Right Time

Cats are graceful and stealthy most of the time, but everyone has their bad days. Thankfully, whenever they do, there’s usually a human around to catch them on camera! If you’re looking for feline fails search no further — it turns out cats aren’t as purrfect as they want you to think.

40. Trash Goblin

Dog owners will describe how their fur babies look guilty when they’ve done something wrong. That isn’t the case with cats. No, instead of shame they have pure, unadulterated rage. Catch them routing through the trash with this charming demonic visage? Prepare for a vengeful response. It was your fault you caught them, after all.

39. Cereal Killer

Cats own everything. They own their scratching post, they own your house and they even own you. So it stands to reason that anything of yours is theirs, too. This fluffy shadow was caught helping itself to its human’s cereal. At least it had the decency to wait until the rightful owner left the room first.

38. Afraid of stairs

The war between cat and dog has been waged since time immemorial. One Redditer revealed how their cats have taken it to the next level by terrorizing the family dog. Apparently, the doggo avoids the cats like the plague. Or it did, until two of them trapped it on the stairs, the poor thing.

37. Lost cat

Bobert the cat’s owner must have been distraught when the kitty went wandering and didn’t return. So worried, in fact, they printed out a pile of “missing” posters to get him back. But Bob knew where his food bowl was. In 2019 the Redditer wrote, “Hot off the printer and look who was meowing at the door.” Damnit, Bobby!

36. The cat that stole Christmas

Move over Grinch, there’s a new furry festive thief in town. This Redditer’s cat just can’t resist the family Christmas tree and devastates the decorations every year. The original poster looks on the bright side though. “I got to decorate the tree three times last year,” they exclaimed in 2020.

35. Give it a minute

This cat appears to love the toilet so much they won’t leave, according to the original poster. Comments were torn between the cat’s behavior and the shape of the Redditer’s toilet. Or, as one person commented in 2021, “If your toilet is a box your cat is gonna sit in it.”

34. Patch that up

This cat’s human should probably have invested in some anti-cat mesh, because regular stuff just doesn’t do the job. But instead of tearing the whole thing apart, the kitty was happy with just making a hole for his head. At least our furry overlords show mercy from time to time.

33. Cotton crazy

Cats like this clearly innocent feline apparently have an obsession with cotton buds. According to The Animal Rescue Site, they make fun toys because they’re easy to move and chew. The buds aren’t ideal, though, because cats can break and swallow them. Maybe just give them an empty box instead, that should keep them happy.

32. Intervention time

We think it’s time someone talked to this kitty about his little problem. It would seem he got into the catnip again, but not all cats have a reaction to the stuff. In 2020 Pet MD explained approximately 60 percent of cats respond to the ‘nip. And this one looks like he’s got several other cats’ worth of reactivity to it. Just say no, folks.

31. The Pawshank Redemption

After the widely-criticized 2019 Cats movie, the feline world’s taking another shot at Hollywood with The Pawshank Redemption. There’s nothing more smug than the look of a cat who knows it can break through a brick wall leaving nothing but its shape behind. They’ve become too powerful. Or should that be Pawerful?

30. Mine now

Remember all those times you tried unsuccessfully to get your cat into a pet carrier? Well, maybe you should try a rabbit cage instead. This cat stole its roommate’s bed right from under its nose. The look on the bunny’s face is as priceless as the smug expression of the cat behind it.

29. Long cat

When you see them on the ground, you forget just how long cats are. Take Maple here, caught during a daring raid on his owner’s pantry. “He’s always been this long,” the original poster wrote in 2021. “We thought he’d grow into his legs and torso but he’s almost two and his proportions are the same.” All the better for pantry raids.

28. Furry hand towel

When cats want your attention they’ll get it, whether it’s walking over your keyboard or pushing their butt in your face. And you can better believe if you start folding your linen they’ll get involved. Exhibit A here interrupted its owner’s hand towel folding with some more posterior presentation. That’s some good catting right there.

27. Tasty

“Black kitties are lovable menaces,” this cat-serving Redditer wrote in 2021. “My Felix here is either my cuddly best friend or evil shadow gremlin.” Apparently, Felix also has a taste for lampshade chains — here he is chowing down on a particularly tasty one. Either that, or he’s just damaging stuff for fun.

26. Hole in the wall

When this owner’s new kitten went missing they found it halfway up the wall with its head in a hole. It’s unclear what came first — the hole or the cat — but it looks like the opposite side of the Pawshank Redemption kitty. Just another example of cats ig–noring the laws of physics. Come down now cat!

25. Gizmo, is that you?

For any of you doubting the existence of mogwai from the 1984 movie Gremlins, we present to you Charlie Angelcat. Sure, his owner claims he’s a cat, but just look at him. The huge eyes, the large ears, the aversion to water… you have a mogwai, my friend. Don’t feed him after midnight.

24. Gone fishing

Ever had that feeling you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time? Well, that’s exactly what this cat experienced while obstructing its sibling’s fishing excursion. In the absence of a rod, angling cat used their buddy as a furry stepping stool. Its distraught expression conveys so many emotions that it’s hilarious!

23. It wasn’t me

This kitty was caught in the act of destroying its human’s plant and clearly doesn’t give two hoots. Instead, it lounges around at the scene of the crime, unconcerned with the consequences of getting caught. If you didn’t want the plant destroyed, why did you get it anyway? That’s just silly.

22. Meow Stew

Despite wanting scritches now and then, in their hearts cats are wild jungle hunters. That’s why they like tight, enclosed spaces — they don’t have the urge to watch their backs. But on the scale of safe places to hide, a stew pot is probably not the best choice. Nice try anyway, buddy.

21. It was an accident

Although most cats don’t care if they’re discovered mid-destruction, you get the odd one who knows they’re in trouble. This one was caught red-handed — or perhaps red-pawed — “helping” to grow onions. All over the kitchen floor. You can’t help but feel sorry for the poor kitty, though. Just look at that face!

20. No regrets

If your cat has anything to do with it, you definitely can’t have your cake and eat it too. This Redditer made a lovely-looking chocolate dessert with whipped cream icing. At least, it looked tasty until their completely shameless furbaby stuck its face in there. Don’t worry, the cat didn’t want the chocolate. It just took the cream and moved on with no regrets.

19. Comfort Zone

If you’ve ever been dragged out of bed in the morning or forced to go somewhere you didn’t want to, you’ll relate to this cat. It seems that the feline lodged itself in a window and had to be pulled out. Though looking at its expression, the cat looked quite happy where it was, thank you so very much. Unhand me, minion!

18. Worth it

Let’s face it, who can see a mountain of pancakes and resist tucking into the delicious stack? That desire extends to cats too, or at least this one particular feline who descended on its human’s breakfast. It doesn’t care that it got caught, either. It’s too late now, human — all your pancakes belong to me.

17. Overly Ambitious

While most cats hunt birds, this one settled for carrying around a pre-killed specimen. In 2013 the original poster (OP) revealed their kitty likes to play with a feather duster, but has yet to master taking it through the cat flap. The OP wrote, “[He’s] The Forrest Gump of the cat world I’m afraid, but I love him.”

16. Cat meets cactus

Cats don’t exactly have a reputation as the most emotive creatures expression-wise, but maybe this photo will make us reconsider. On meeting a cactus, which it can’t fight, eat or seduce, this feline’s face is a picture of pure horror and disgust. It almost looks offended. You have displeased your furry overlord, humans.

15. Caught cold-handed

Remember how cats love enclosed spaces? Well, it doesn’t get much closer than a refrigerator. Kait Carroll’s kitty Twistie took advantage of the empty shelf to make themself at home. We’re just glad Carroll noticed the sneaky trespasser before she closed the door. “Why?!” she commented in 2021. Just because, Carroll. Just because.

14. Nothing to see here

So you’re a cat and you’ve just been caught digging up your human’s flower beds. We’ve seen several tactics before. You can simply not care, you could stare indignantly or you could go the angry route. But this kitty uses an adorable look of pure love to avoid a scolding. Well played.

13. Spider-Cat

We’ve finally discovered Spider-Cat’s secret identity — it’s none other than Peter Purrer! Just kidding, this is actually a cat called Corky who’s somehow scaling a screen door. “What a naughty thing to do, Corky,” the original poster wrote on Instagram in 2021. “On the other hand, I am such a good boy, Mom. So I guess I’m your new favourite?”

12. Hanging out

Trees grow a variety of fruits, but this Reddit user found one a little furrier than usual. They explained that the cat likes to take a nap in a huge banana tree. Let’s hope the kitty doesn’t get stuck up there or he might not find it so a-peel-ing.

11. Don’t look at me

As Phoebe from Friends once sang, “Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you?” Whatever’s covering this cat, they don’t look happy about it, and the expression on its face says, “it’s not my fault.” Actually, the look’s closer to “pretend you didn’t see this or I’ll hunt you down and poop in your shoes.” That is one angry cat.

10. I’m Perfectly comfortable, thank you

For those of you who don’t have a cat, fair warning — they can and will follow you into the restroom at every opportunity. In 2021 Instagram’s Susan Clarke wrote, “Had thought now [the] kids are a bit older, I could finally wee in peace. [The] cat has other ideas.”

9. Wet Paint

By now you should have realized that cats have their own rules. Which is, there are no rules. You can put up all the signs you want, but if a kitty chooses to sit, it sits. “The look on its face,” one person commented on the image in 2014. “It knows. It doesn’t care.”

8. Cat Burglar

Sophia Lindner’s cat Percy went viral after she shared pics of his sticky paws and adorable guilty expression. She revealed it’s not just cinnamon buns he’s partial to pilfering, either. “Even though he knows the rules, he will still try to sneak around them,” Lindner told Bored Panda in 2017. “Chocolate cupcakes, PayDay bars, popcorn, ham, chicken, beef jerky, pasta, Cheez-Its…” not even tupperware is safe!

7. Don’t be suspicious

If you are reading this it may already be too late. We have discovered the existence of a sinister gang of feline felons, a cat mafia if you will, who raid human kitchens for food. No tall shelf is safe from their grasping claws and anyone who discovers them is swiftly dealt with. Wait, does anyone hear scratching? Sounds like someone’s at the door.

6. Unattended cookie

So it turns out that Percy the cinnamon bun thief isn’t the only cat looking for sweet treats to nab. Never leave your food unattended around kitties unless you really want to lose it. They might not even eat the snack in question, it’s just that, you know, you have it and they don’t. And that’s not fair.

5. Recyclable

Look, we’re all for recycling, but anything with fur can’t be re-used. And we know what you’re thinking. “Someone needs to let the cat out of the bag,” right? Sorry, the entire internet beat you to it in the comments section on social media! But don’t worry, we forgive you. No need to get catty.

4. Packaged cat

We can only assume this is either a new water company promotion or one of the warehouse staff is missing a cat. The look on the poor thing’s face is one of a kitty who now realizes they’ve made a terrible mistake. It’s not alone, either. There’s an entire subreddit dedicated to cats in water packages. Weird, considering how much they hate to get wet.

3. Help me

This is Izzy and she likes to climb screen doors. Apparently though, she’s not very good at it and the activity sometimes ends in disaster. Have you ever seen the face of a cat regretting decisions across all of its nine lives? Well, here it is. Nice try Izzy, better luck next time.

2. Orange squash

If you’ve ever had an overzealous couch that tends to absorb everything between its cushions, you know how tenacious they can be. Change, TV remotes — not even the family cat is safe! This one looks like it’s been absorbed into the sofa and has just given up trying to escape. Take me, couch, I’m part of you now.

1. Save me, human

In 2015 a Redditer uploaded a picture of his cat Edd who temporarily forgot he was scared of water. The original poster wrote, “He was floating near us and enjoying himself, until he realized he floated about ten feet away from us and was gripped with unrelenting panic.” If there was ever a face of a cat calling for help, this is it.
