A-List Celebrities Who Own A Baffling Amount Of Real Estate

Some celebrities change houses like we change outfits, and in many cases they have properties all over the globe. That’s right, one home isn’t enough for these top-tier stars. They have mansions to spare, and one owns 14 just for themselves! So strap on your jealousy goggles and prepare to turn green with envy at these high-earning homeowners.

20. Ashton Kutcher

Number of homes: 3

Kutcher told website Insider in 2018 that he “was scared” when he bought his first home, but it looks like he’s since conquered those fears. Now the media mogul owns three houses in southern California with his Hollywood heartthrob Mila Kunis, each one worth several million dollars. Take their $10 million beach house in Carpinteria, for instance, a six-bed, six-bath seafront property with its own bar.

Eight bathrooms

As if that’s not enough, he sold a glassy Hollywood Hills home to buy a property near Hidden Valley Road. It was a bit more expensive at $12 million, but the 9,385-square-foot property comes with half an acre of landscaped grounds. It also has five bedrooms and eight bathrooms. You know, just in case of emergencies. He apparently bought it when Kunis got pregnant, so maybe they’ll need those bathrooms after all.

19. Kim Kardashian

Number of homes: 3

As you’d expect from a celebrity so famous that their booty broke the internet, Kim Kardashian has her pick of properties. In 2013 she and her then-husband Kanye West bought a mansion in Bel Air for a whopping $11 million, but who needs a house that costs chump change? They traded up for one almost twice the price near her momager, Kris Jenner.

Personal vineyard

The new place in — you guessed it — Hidden Hills is a dream by any standards, with 3.5 acres of space, its personal vineyard, two spas and a couple of swimming pools. Yes, that’s one each. It evidently wasn’t hidden enough, though. You see, Kardashian wanted more privacy, and she had the funds to afford it. So they also bought the property next door too for a paltry $2.9 million. What a giveaway!

18. Kylie Jenner

Number of homes: 4

Speaking of Kardashians, Kim isn’t the only one metaphorically vacuuming-up mansions. Kylie Jenner used $2.6 million from her pocket money to buy her first Hidden Hills house at the tender age of 17. It was a 4,851-square-foot five-bedroomed property with its own theater and spa. Yet you clearly can’t have too much of a good thing, because she bought three more over the following two years, all in Hidden Hills.

Cape-Cod aesthetic

The next one was a 7,000-square-foot mansion worth $6 million complete with seven bathrooms and six bedrooms. Then Jenner pulled the same trick as her sister and bought the $5.4 million house next door. Still, the fourth was the biggest, at 13,200 square feet. She hooked the whopper with a Cape-Cod aesthetic for a cool $12 million; it features rooms dedicated to gaming and massage, eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. What a catch!

17. Kris Jenner

Number of homes: 4

Next up is momager Kris Jenner, who added another Hidden Hills mansion to the Kardashian-Jenner empire. If you’ve ever watched Keeping up with the Kardashians you’ll probably recognize the $4 million property — at least from the inside. The exterior shots were actually from a completely different Studio City property to disguise its real-world location from more enthusiastic fans.

Celebrity granny annex

The second mansion was surprisingly not in Hidden Hills, but a condo in L.A. Sure, it was less grandiose — it only had four bathrooms and two bedrooms — but it was a measly $1.6 million. A 4,256 square-foot Calabasas home that some claim belonged to her son Rob followed. Finally Kris brought a celebrity granny annex next door to Kim for $9.9 million. Ah, the lives of the rich and famous.

16. Alec Baldwin

Number of homes: 4

Alec Baldwin seems to love New York properties as much as the Kardashian-Jenners adore Hidden Hills. Or perhaps it’s just the work of architect Emery Roth that catches his eye, since he’s the genius behind all of Baldwin’s purchases. Either way, the celebrity’s passion for NYC homes goes back to a Central Park West park building called El Dorado, where he lived until 2011.

Penthouse suite

Baldwin sold El Dorado for a respectable $9.5 million and continued his pursuit of Roth’s designs in a Manhattan apartment building called Devonshire House. First he spent $11.7 million on a four-bed penthouse suite, then a year later he grabbed the neighboring one for $1.21 million. Baldwin must be going for the collection, because he now owns no fewer than three suites in Devonshire House.

15. Oprah

Number of homes: 6

Oprah isn’t shy about spending her fortune — as her 23,000-square-feet, $50 million main home in Montecito proves. She also owns two other properties there, including Jeff Bridges’ previous home worth $6.85 million and a beautiful $29 million horse farm called Seamair Farm Estate. Celebrities sure love their horses, don’t they? It isn’t all farm, though. It has a 4,750-square-foot residence and pool for the humans, too.

Private beach

Not that Oprah needs the room, of course. She’s got plenty to spare in her other three houses. Her 7,303-square-feet Washington property has six bathrooms, eight bedrooms and its own private beach. The 8,700-square-feet Colorado home is a $14 million mansion sitting on 3.25 acres, and the Queen of All Media’s final estate is apparently a $30 million holiday home in Hawaii. YOU get a house, and YOU get a house!

14. Jennifer Lopez

Number of homes: 6

J-Lo owns property worth approximately $97 million. That’s so many houses she can’t possibly live in them all! We’re sure she tries her best, though. In 2013 she spent $10 million on an eight-bed home in the illustrious Hamptons, complete with a steam room, sauna and home cinema. A year later, the star spent a further $20 million on a four-bed penthouse with a Madison Square Park view. It’s alright for some.

Seaview mansion

A further $28 million went on an estate so big it has a 100-seater amphitheater and pub. But just in case you think celebrities can’t be modest, J-Lo also owns a $1.4 million three-bed L.A. cottage. The final two homes aren’t so discreet. One’s a Miami Star Island seaview mansion with ten bedrooms and bathrooms worth $32.5 million. And last but not least is $55 million-worth of Bel Air Estate. Phew.

13. Madonna

Number of homes: 6 (estimated)

No one really knows how many properties veteran pop star Madonna owns — except for herself, perhaps — but she has homes all around the world. She’s most well-known for her $40 million NYC townhouse that’s so big it has its own elevator, a wine cellar, two-car garage and a total of nine fireplaces. That’s weirdly specific, but at least Madonna will never get cold.

18th-century mansion

One of Madonna’s other homes was worth almost as much. In fact, she hit the media when the sale of her mansion in Beverly Hills made $35 million. There’s also an 18th-century mansion in Portugal and at least one property in London. So where do all the other homes come in, you ask? She’s reported to have a total of six London properties, but the actual number remains a mystery. It’s probably a lot, though.

12. Jennifer Aniston

Number of homes: 7

Beloved Friends actress Jennifer Aniston informed magazine Architectural Digest in 2018, “If I wasn’t an actress, I’d want to be a designer,” and remarked that she always added to her purchased homes before selling them on. She’s not always been successful in property development — her two condos in Manhattan were a financial loss — but Jen can afford to take the hit considering her previous profits.

Double the price

Take the mansion she had in popular Beverly Hills for example, which she bought for $13.5 million and sold for $36 million. And the mansion she shared with ex Brad Pitt sold for double its original price at $28 million! That’s not so surprising really, considering Aniston added a tennis court, a screening room and an entire guest house to its grounds. You know, just in case her Friends stayed over.

11. Adam Lavine

Number of homes: 7

Maroon Five lead singer Adam Lavine initially showed an interest in the celebrity version of man caves, but when he got together with Behati Prinsloo his tastes changed to the historic — such as their turn-of-the-century $4.5 million apartment in New York. And in 2017 the couple added a five-bed, five-bath 1960s estate with 1.2 acres of land for $18 million.

Five cars

Lavine and Prinsloo primarily live in their Pacific Palisades 1930s mansion that has three separate buildings on the property — one for residency, another for luxury and a third for guests. Still, in case they need time away from this paradise they can escape to their $22.7 million, 5.2-acre villa in Montecito with its own tennis court, swimming pool and garage capable of housing five cars. After all, you can never have too many!

10. Beyonce & Jay-Z

Number of homes: 7 (plus rentals)

As you’d expect from a billionaire power couple, Beyonce and Jay-Z have their pick of properties associated with some famous names. They own seven, including a $6.85 million Tribeca loft that hit the news because the Carters used it for their secret wedding! But their pride and joy is a Bel-Air mega-mansion they snapped up for the bargain price of $88 million.

Loose change

After that, they dug under the couch cushions for loose change and found $26 million to spend on a new property in the Hamptons. This one was a lovely seaside house with particularly stringent admission reserved only for the richest and most famous, such as Steven Spielberg and Martha Stewart. Oh, and Beyonce-Z also rent some mansions here and there: why not?

9. Taylor Swift

Number of homes: 8 (at least)

It would take a long time to list all of pop star sensation Taylor Swift’s homes, since she started buying them up when she was 20. But we know she has at least eight of them over four states. In 2013 TayTay began buying up a mansion each year — first a $17.75 million Rhode Island property, then a $20 million New York duplex and a $25 million mansion in Beverly Hills.

Hidden palaces?

Swift took a year off after that, but the next year she went right back to buying. Factoring in the apartment next to her already huge double penthouse, she’s spent $47.7 million just in the Tony Tribeca Neighborhood! Of course, these are just the mansions we know about. It’s quite possible the pop queen has other palaces hidden across the U.S. and maybe beyond. First America, and then the world!

8. Bill & Melinda Gates

Number of homes: 8

So it turns out that Bill and Melinda live up to their names: they do indeed own a lot of gates. When they were together the couple spent the majority of their time in Xanadu, a 66,000-square-foot mega-mansion worth $123 million featuring — among other things — a 60-foot swimming pool, 24 bathrooms and seven bedrooms. But apparently, they needed more space and branched out.

492-acre ranch

Or should that be ranched out? They also had five ranches across America, including two in Florida and one in California that used to belong to fitness guru Jenny Craig. That last one is a 228-acre monster that cost the Gates couple $18 million, but even that pales in size when compared to the 492-acre ranch in Wyoming. Throw in a couple of extra mansions in Palm Desert and San Diego and you can see why the name Gates is synonymous with wealth.

7. Tyra Banks

Number of homes: 8

According to magazine MONEY in 2018 supermodel Tyra Banks lived up to her name by being super-frugal until her accountant said, “You need to spend some damn money.” So she turned to property, and did exactly that. It’s difficult to keep up with the mansions she’s bought and sold, though at one point she owned four houses in the illustrious Pacific Palisades area alone.

Hair salon

Perhaps Banks’ most famous home is what The New York Times called a “mansion in the sky.” That’s because it was 22 storys above Battery Park City — or 23 if you’re on the second floor. At 7,000 square feet it was more like a village in the sky though! It had its own gym, hair salon and according to Architectural Digest, a dining room designed like “a booth at a Michelin-starred restaurant.”

6. Chrissy Teigen & John Legend

Number of homes: 8

To give you some idea of how model Teigen and singer Legend view property purchase, they bought a Manhattan condominium while they were dating for $1.9 million. And like many celebrities, they’re fond of buying properties close together to get some extra space on top of their extra space. The two 1856 NYC penthouses only cost them $16.7 million — and they sold them later for a profit.

Property portfolio

The couple haven’t settled down just yet though, and made some more additions to their property portfolio in recent times. The year 2020 saw the two snap up a $5.1 million West Hollywood house covering 3,440 square feet. That’s relatively small by celebrity standards! So it’s no wonder they made up for it the same year with a 10,700-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion worth $17.5 million.

5. Ellen

Number of homes: 12

Ellen is an accidental property flipper, or so she told The New York Times in 2014. “I’ve never bought to sell,” she stated. “I always say, ‘This is it. I’m never moving.’ People laugh at me now.” All told, Ellen’s had 12 properties that she’s bought and sold to some of the biggest movers and shakers in Hollywood.

Seacrest ssale

For example, her famous 2004 home "The Treehouse” has hosted Josh Hutcherson, the late great Heath Ledger and David Weissman. Celebrity actor-comedian Will Ferrell bought a previous Ellen property — an L.A. mansion — for $9 million. One of her most impressive flips has got to be her 2012 sale to Ryan Seacrest: the house went for a whopping $36 million. Now that’s walking-around money.

4. Rihanna

Number of homes: 11

With an estimated $600 million net worth, Rihanna sure shines bright like a diamond. And so does her real estate, which is enough to make any bank teller rub their hands together. In 2021 she bought two Beverly Hills mansions next to each other for $23.8 million in total. It rained so much money that year, Riri probably needed her famed umbrella.

Private screening room

Rihanna doesn’t just own property, though. She also rents expensive houses for an amount that would refill Scrooge McDuck’s pool of gold. The property in question was an eight-bedroom 19th-century London mansion with its own private screening room, gym, personal elevator and ten-car garage. Cars not included. She paid $100,000 a month for the privilege, and it later sold for $41 million. Wow.

3. Leonardo DiCaprio

Number of homes: 8 (including an island)

Titanic star in name and titanic star in wealth, Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t just own property in the U.S., but another country, too. It seems that California is his most beloved location, though — Leo’s got five properties there, including Madonna’s previous $2 million home in Hollywood Hills covering 12,530 square feet and a 1.76 acre beachfront mansion in Malibu’s Paradise Cove worth $23 million.

Passionate environmentalist

DiCaprio’s real estate in Belize is arguably the most impressive, though. For the small price of $1.75 million Leo scooped up an entire island just to himself! And if you’re wondering why one person would want such a significant amount of land, it’s actually because he’s a passionate environmentalist. He even wanted to turn it into the Blackadore Caye eco-resort, though his dreams haven’t come to fruition. Not yet, anyway.

2. Arnold Schwarzenegger

Number of homes: Unknown (property empire)

Arnie’s been investing in property development since the ’70s, and not just residential homes. He also owns an entire property empire including offices, apartments and retail buildings! But the Terminator star hasn’t neglected his own residential collection. He’s got so many we can’t possibly name them all, but there are a lot, and he’s revealing more as time goes by.

Donkey and horse

We know about Arnie’s 10,000-square-foot mega-mansion in the Pacific Palisades and his enigmatic 18,000-square-feet rural getaway in Idaho. Well, during the pandemic he also released footage of a 14,500-square-foot, seven-bed, ten-bath home in Brentwood, California. How do you hide something that big? Oh, and he has a donkey called Lulu and a miniature horse named Whiskey living there, too.

1. Jeff Bezos

Number of homes: 14 (at least)

It’s probably no surprise that the current second-richest person alive has the most real estate. Let’s face it, Jeff Bezos has money to burn and he’s not shy about buying the odd mansion whenever the fancy takes him. He’s got 14 homes that we know of, but that kind of cash can buy a lot of secrecy, so who knows how high the actual number is?

Maui hideaway

When he was married, Bezos owned two neighboring Beverly Hills mansions with his wife. He has two Washington properties with a combined value of $10 million, just one of which stretches to 20,600 square feet. Next to one of those is his $53 million, 24,000-square-foot mansion. But most impressive is Bezos’ beachfront Maui hideaway. He also owns the surrounding land, and it’s worth $78 million. Yep, you heard that right: $78 million.
