One woman was on the trip of a lifetime when her phone fell off her boat and into the ocean. The lady believed she’d never see the device again. However, that’s when a creature rose out of the depths towards her.
In 2015 Teressa Cee was a dancer with NBA team Miami Heat. There’s no denying that her job was a glamorous one. After joining the troupe in 2010, she enjoyed trips to far-flung and exotic locations around the world.
Cee’s was the kind of lifestyle that most of us can only dream of. As a result, people flocked to her social media pages to gain an insight into her glitzy world. With that in mind, the dancer now boasts 26,000 followers on Instagram and 363,000 on Facebook.
In September 2015 Cee jetted off on yet another envy-inducing trip. This time it was for the purpose of business rather than pleasure. So the rest of her Miami Heat teammates accompanied her to take part in a photoshoot.
The work trip was to the Bahamas. More specifically, Cee and her teammates were close to the idyllic Blue Lagoon Island. The beauty spot is famed for its turquoise lagoons, coconut-lined beaches and soft white sands.
However, the private island’s appeal goes much further than its dreamlike coastline. The Blue Lagoon Island is also teeming with life, boasting a thriving coral reef and countless tropical birds. And lucky visitors can even catch a glimpse of the island’s native dolphins or sea lions.
It’s little wonder then that when Cee and her colleagues had a day off, they headed to Blue Lagoon Island. Given that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the dancers booked themselves on a dolphin encounter experience.
As she prepared to go swim with the magical sea mammals, Cee handed her phone to a friend. The intention was for her buddy to film Cee’s interaction with the dolphins. However, that’s when disaster struck.
Somehow, the friend lost grasp of the phone and dropped it over the side of the boat. Cee could only look on in horror as all her contacts and photos plunged to the bottom of the sea. There was no way, she thought, that she’d ever see the device again.
Within a matter of seconds, the phone was almost completely out of view. “I didn’t think I was going to get it back at all,” Cee told ABC News in 2015. “You could see a piece of it but the rest of it was covered in sand.”
As Cee resigned herself to the fact she’d lost her phone forever, there was a commotion on her boat. The dolphin trainers in her company were signaling to something in the ocean. And before long, something began to stir in the depths of the ocean.
The strange creature caught the attention of everyone on the boat. As a result, one of the members in Cee’s group decided to film the incident as it unfolded. And the footage they captured was simply astonishing.
Seconds into the film, a large tail fin can be seen writhing around in the water beneath the boat. After jiggling for some time, the creature turns around to face the camera. It’s then that it becomes clear to viewers that the dark mass is, in fact, a dolphin.
The dolphin rises up through the crystal-clear water until it has broken through the surface. Once it is in full sight, the animal leaps towards someone on the boat and places something in their hands. To her astonishment, the item was Cee’s phone.
Understandably, Cee could not believe what had just happened to her. “Oh my god!” she shrieked in the footage of the amazing incident. “That’s so cute! Thanks. It’s never going to work again, but thanks!”
It turned out that in the midst of the commotion, one dolphin trainer had caught the attention of the heroic animal. They signaled for the animal to go and search. However, deep down, the trainer had never expected the creature to return with the item.
Experts have known for some time that dolphins are intelligent creatures. The animals are capable of grieving, cooperating, scheming, learning and teaching. However, this dolphin’s actions shocked everyone – including its trainer.
“It was incredible,” Cee revealed. “The trainer was actually as surprised as I was. We were all laughing and shocked.” In fact, the dancer was so impressed with her dolphin encounter that she decided to post the video online. And before long it had attracted more than three million views.
“True Story,” she wrote alongside the astonishing footage. “While in the Bahamas, I had the opportunity to go swimming with dolphins on Blue Lagoon Island. We were filming on this floating platform in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.”
“Against my better judgment I asked someone to hold my phone for me. He accidentally dropped my phone into water and it sank to the bottom,” Cee explained. “Cacique, the dolphin, actually retrieved my phone and brought it back up to me. Cutest thing ever!”
