He Spotted This Little Thing Shivering in a Deserted L.A. River. What He Found Was Heartbreaking

The helpless canine somehow survived a 30-foot drop, but was trapped for two days in the shallow current. Luckily a good Samaritan alerted the animal rescue charity Hope for Paws, and the organization’s co-founder Eldad Hagar came to the rescue.

The poor pup seemed to have put on a brave face despite his ordeal. He found a source of comfort in an empty potato-chip bag.

An eyewitness explained that the pup had been abused and thrown into the river. But when Hagar reached the dog, he was heartbroken at the true extent of the animal’s torture.

Not only was the shivering little pup suffering from mange, bacterial infections, and malnutrition, but someone had brutally cut off one of his hind legs. The Hope for Paws volunteers lifted the dog to safety and rushed him to the nearest animal hospital.

Inspired by the location where he found the pup, Hagar called the little dog Jordan after the river named in the Bible. Upon arriving at the hospital, doctors said it was a “miracle” Jordan had survived.

The poor pup required a blood transfusion. After four days in intensive care, Jordan was strong enough to then receive surgery on his mutilated leg.

The operation went according to plan, and after a few more days Jordan was ready to go to his new home with his foster mom Lisa Chiarelli. Thanks to Chiarelli’s loving care, he continued to build his strength. After two weeks, brave Jordan had his stitches removed.

Not only had Jordan gained a new home and a foster mom, but he was also lucky enough to get two older canine foster sisters. Lola and Frankie, Chiarelli’s other dogs, helped nurse Jordan back to health and taught him how to be a dog again.

Jordan grew particularly close to his oldest sister, Frankie. The pair loved nothing more than playing together and enjoying the odd snuggle.

Meanwhile, Jordan underwent physical therapy to help strengthen his body and get him used to life with three legs. Soon the once-helpless dog was chasing balls and running all around the house.

He even started swimming! As he built his strength, Jordan eventually excelled at the doggy paddle in Chiarelli’s backyard pool.

The little dog was also becoming quite the fashionista. As you can see, he became the proud owner of some stylish knitwear and a snazzy tropical print shirt.

It wasn’t long before Jordan found his forever home. Leaving Chiarelli, Lola, and Frankie behind, the inspiring canine went to live with a loving family in California in February 2015.

Jordan’s new owners were so impressed by his story that they set up a Facebook page in his honor called “Jordan the Wonder Dog.” The page, which has over 30,000 likes, chronicles Jordan’s new life with his mom, dad, sisters Bella and Layla, and doggy friends Gracie and Luna.

The family adopted Jordan after watching Hope for Paw’s heartbreaking video of his rescue. Youngest daughter Layla cried herself to sleep that night and the family agreed they should bring Jordan home. The family says Jordan has filled their home with “laughter” and “sweet silliness.”

Jordan is also having no trouble keeping up with his new four-legged friends. As the plucky pup’s family informed his many fans, “Jordan may have only three legs, but he plays like the best of them. He tugs the hardest, runs the fastest, and barks the loudest. He’s very spunky, and DEFINITELY has a naughty side to him.”

“Jordan loves to go on hikes and is surprisingly good at it,” the family told The Pet Matchmaker. “There’s a creek nearby and he’ll go in the water and dive his whole face under to catch tadpoles. He’s just a normal, rambunctious young dog and fits in perfectly to our family.”

Most touchingly of all, Jordan’s incredible rescue and recovery has gone on to inspire further animal rescues. In March 2016, Jordan’s family wrote of how a young boy, named Gabriel Sepulveda, called Hope For Paws when he discovered an abandoned dog after watching the video Jordan’s story on Youtube.

The Pit Bull, later named Dennis, had been left to die on a bridge. Sadly, despite Hope For Paws’ efforts, Dennis couldn’t be saved.

Despite the tragic outcome, Jordan’s family said they were honored that Jordan’s story had played a part in another dog’s rescue. They hope to inspire more people to become heroes in the fight against animal cruelty.
