Funny Dad Photobombs That Prove They’re Still Boys At Heart

If there’s one thing you don’t want your dad to do when you’re picking up a hard-earned basketball trophy… it’s this. The moment is supposed to be about you and your team — not your dad hogging the spotlight! No wonder the kid looks so truly, madly, deeply, hilariously unimpressed with his pops.

The sheer physics of this photo are enough to boggle the mind. We didn’t know bodies could…do that. If we tried to get our leg into that position it’d be a night in the Emergency Room for us! Anyhow, we’re sure the talented dancer in this photo was absolutely furious with her father goofin’ it up in the background. Not now, dad!

This is Waylon. He’s enjoying his first ever Pensacola Blue Wahoos baseball game the way he will enjoy games on TV in the comfort of his own home as an adult — mostly pantsless. Hey, we’ve all done it! As mom posed for the camera though, her dad felt the need to photobomb that special memory. And you know what? We salute him for it.

This is a great example of a stealth photobomb. This dad isn’t concerned with being instantly noticeable — no, sir. This is a man of great subtlety and quiet artistry! You could look at this photo a number of times before you even see him, and that’s something to be celebrated. Great work!

Some photobombs are clearly planned, but sometimes fate conspires to put a dad in a position to seize an unexpected opportunity. Take this pa, for example — he looks like he’s just taking something out to the car and has stumbled into his daughter’s photo. So, what is any self-respecting dad to do? Throw a hand in the air and make a silly face, of course!

This is Shinji, an enormous and beautiful Newfoundland dog. Look at his poise, his regal bearing, and those piercing eyes — the camera loves him! This mom is excited to be taking her little girl to the mall on Black Friday. Bargains await! Little did they realize, though, that daddy would be in the background, mugging for the camera through the glass. We hope they had a good laugh at the secret silliness when they saw the picture!

We’ll let Twitter user Eja Nla field this one: “I was trying to act cute with my daughters and my dad decided to photobomb.” Poor Eja didn’t realize that a cute photo is something a dad will always try to ruin. Why? Because it’s funnier that way! We don’t make the rules — that’s just how it is in Dadworld.

Another inarguable photobomb fact is this: if you’re trying to have a sweet moment in a pic, a dad will feel compelled to ruin it. There’s just something about displays of sincere emotion that make dads want to pull a dumb face or do something stupid in the background. A mom-and-daughter birthday bonding moment, for example? Time for dad to shine!

If you’ll permit us a sweeping generalisation in this entry, we reckon there’s a universal truth about dads — they love sports. Whether it’s football, basketball, baseball, golf, soccer — if you’re a dad, you probably like at least one. Therefore, what could be sweeter for a dad than to see his own kids kitted out for Sports Day? It simply demands a happy photobomb!

We’re not sure what’s bigger in this pic — the selfie-taker’s smile, her dad’s goofy grin or the enormous bushy beard he’s sporting! Just look at that thing! It should have its own zip code. Anyway, it’s some truly top-notch photobombing work from a man who clearly knows how to have fun. 

We appreciate the dedication displayed by these Bahamas holidaymakers. Even though their dad has achieved a spectacular “sideways floating head” photobomb, they’ve still gone to the trouble of applying a moody black-and-white filter to the pic. They simply will not let his asinine acrobatics affect their selfie game, and we love that.

This entry features something pretty rare, and it’s something that should be championed. Yes, that’s right, it’s a dad photobombing his own father! Two paternal generations in one image: a happy grandpa taking a photo with his granddaughter, all while his own son mugs for the camera and torpedoes their poignant moment. Brilliant.

Thought photobombing was a fairly recent thing, brought about by the proliferation of digital cameras and smartphones capable of taking high-resolution photos that can be instantly deleted? Well, so did we! But Twitter user “HitchinRach” knows better. They posted this hilarious image along with the caption, “Apparently, my dad invented the photo bomb circa 1957.” Whoa!

Most dads like to pull a silly face or a wacky pose in photobombs — it just makes sense. But this dad has gone above and beyond and pulled off a rare kissy photobomb. We think that’s his daughter and her boyfriend, and his commitment to making them feel uncomfortable is commendable. Or maybe he just loves his potential future son-in-law? Either way, it’s good stuff.

Question: is a photobomb still a photobomb if the person taking the picture knows it’s coming? Take this one, for example — the selfie taker is already giving her dad the side-eye in the photo! She must have known what he was going to do. It’s almost like the two of them planned it in advance! Scandalous.

This photobomb is pretty irresistible. It features something you don’t normally associate with the practice — athleticism! Just look at the amount of air this dad has achieved with his trampoline jump. He really wanted to be the one who caught the eye at his daughter’s gymnastics event and it’s an effort to which other attention-hogging dads can aspire!

This photobomb is like Inception. No, not because the dad looks like Leonardo DiCaprio — there are different layers to it, like with the dream levels in the movie. You see, not only is the dad bombing his daughter by dabbing in the background– he’s also wearing a sweater that features Santa Claus dabbing! It’s a dab within a dab within a photobomb! Layers.  

At first glance, this is simply an excellent example of photobombing in a small space. Look how the dad has squeezed his face into that area between his daughter(s) — this is not his first rodeo! But, upon second look, it does make us wonder if the face he’s chosen to pull was intentionally sinister. And is he beckoning the photo-taker toward him with his finger?! Creepy!

This is opportunistic photobombing at its best, yet again. Oh, you’re trying to take a nice restaurant selfie while dad’s at the restroom, huh? Well, the joke’s on you, because dad is actually coming back from the restroom and has caught you in the act! There will be no nice selfies tonight, dear!

How many people are in this photo? If you answered four, we reckon you’re wrong! Allow us to explain. We’re pretty sure the photobombing dad is the third person, and the guy whose face we can’t quite see beside him is actually just his reflection in a mirror. It’s a photobomb optical illusion! 

This Instagram user was full of praise for her dad’s brilliant vacation photobomb. She posted, “By far the best picture from the cruise and possibly the best picture ever,” and added the hashtag, “#MyDadIsTheBest.” It’s bound to be music to most dads’ ears — sometimes your family really does appreciate the constant silliness! 

This is a truly superb photobomb. You’ve got the kid in the foreground, hair flowing in the wind as he jumps up and down — he’s having the time of his life! But you know what? So is his dad, who we can see making a beeline for his son in the background while riding some kind of miniaturized scooter. 

Getting your driving license is a sacred rite of passage for most teenagers. Finally, after all your hard work, you’ll enjoy more independence and the ability to hit the open road to go wherever you want. It’s a cause for celebration but, as this photobombing dad can attest to, it’s not only the teen who will be overjoyed. Just look at the height on that jump!

The relationship between a mother and her daughter is special. So, on a mom’s birthday, all she’ll want is for her girl to shower her with attention and make her feel like the best mom in the world. His work made possible the Jonah’s Hands Library in the Ethiopian village where he was born. We’re sure his family — including his ridiculous photobombing dad — help him stay down-to-Earth, though, despite his incredible success!

We’re not sure why this lady is taking a selfie with her mom — on Mother’s Day — in the supermarket. It doesn’t seem the most glamorous spot for such a pic, but hey, who are we to judge? We do appreciate dad’s happy photobomb, though. We can only imagine he’s just bought a bunch of beer and chips and beef jerky. You know… dad stuff. 

At first glance, this is some of the best stealth photobombing we’ve ever seen. But after we noticed the waving dad outside the window, it got us wondering — what if he’s stuck out there? What if that’s not a wave to say, “Hey, look at me!” and more, “Please let me in! It’s freezing out here and wolves are after me!” Makes the whole thing way less funny, huh?

This photo of a young soccer team at a tournament is what youth sports are all about. A bunch of kids all learning to work as a team, playing a game they love and having fun on the pitch. Hell, one of their dads also had fun, too — as the post was captioned, “even if Innes’ dad did photo bomb all the team photos!” All of them! Ha!

This “first day of school” photo is amusingly awful as the children all look awkward in front of the camera in their own special ways. One has closed his eyes at the wrong time, one is giving her brothers the side-eye, and one is smiling like a serial killer planning his next victim. You almost don’t even need the cringey dad photobomb in the background!

Sometimes a dad’s desire to photobomb is so strong that he can do it from beyond the grave. It certainly seems to be the case here, because if that isn’t a spectral dad standing outside the car window then we’ll eat our hat. And don’t you tell us he just looks pale because of a trick of the light or something. That’s a ghost dad!

The man in the foreground of this picture is just trying to take a selfie with his lady love. Wouldn’t you know it, though — there’s his pops in the background taking the attention away! Maybe the dad was just taken aback by how good-looking a couple they are and had to get a closer look. 

We admire people who are excited by roller coasters. Seriously, if you can be strapped into one of those cars and be enthusiastic about the prospect of loop-the-looping through the air at vomit-inducing speeds, then you’re braver than us! Take this photobombing dad and his family, for instance — they don’t look terrified at all. What gives?

The spectrum of reactions from the youthful basketball team in this pic are amazing. There are a few who look surprised that the referee has totally jumped in front of their shot. But then there are the two in red hoodies who don’t look happy about it at all! Look at the eyes of the one closest to him, in particular — what kind of vengeance is he cooking up?

The stepfather photobombing this young lady can fit squarely into the “unintentionally sinister” category. We assume he is just holding the knife because he’s about to cut her birthday cake. But the blade, coupled with his slightly unnerving smile, gives the whole thing an unexpected frisson of danger. Maybe photobombs and knives just don’t mix!

This dad was up against it for his photobomb. Not only was he trying to be seen behind his daughters’ smiling faces, but he was also at risk of being blocked by the Santa headband one was wearing. In the end he didn’t quite get his angles 100 percent correct, but we appreciate the effort! 

This photobomb is super-impressive to us because of the sheer distance involved. The dad looks too far away to even know a photo is being taken of his daughters and yet, there he is, positioning himself perfectly between them. It’s either a feat of tremendous precision — or the best example of dumb luck on this list! 

The feeling a mom gets after bringing a newborn baby into the world has got to be one of the most magical things anyone can experience. So, spare a thought for this mom. All she wanted was to take a picture of her little one’s adorably tiny baby toes, only to see the tot’s idiot dad grinning in the background! 

The thing we love about this photobomb is that the dad looks like he’s been frozen in time. It’s almost as though when his wife and daughter turn around, they’ll see him stuck forever in that absurd pose.
