Picture it: you wake up, blearily wipe the sleep from your eyes, pull back the curtains of your bedroom window and find an aeroplane has crash-landed in the hedge opposite. Or a car has faced a head-on collision with a helicopter. Or… well, you get the idea. These 20 people must have thought that they were still dreaming when they glimpsed these crazy things going on outside their windows.

It doesn’t get much crazier, or creepier, than this. As an anti-theft device, it’s probably pretty effective – particularly against would-be criminals who’ve dabbled in something stronger than beer. But for general passers-by? Absolutely terrifying.

If you look outside your window and see this sitting on your lawn, there’s no way that you’re going to do anything else other than march right out there and open it, right? It’s like having a big red button that says, “do not push.” Unfortunately, as one redditor found out, this particular specimen was full of rotten food. However, you never know what’s going to be inside the next one…

It’s not every day that you see a Martian skateboarding down the street. Still, who’d have thought that the little green men actually live among us and are in fact above average height? Or maybe it’s just a raver in a morph suit who’s got a little lost. Who’s to say?

It seems that the marketing campaign for Universal’s upcoming reboot of The Mummy is much more low-budget this time around. We think that all the big bucks must have gone on making Tom Cruise look as tall as a normal action movie star.

Silly helicopter pilot. Roads are for cars! Can you imagine looking out of your window and seeing this on the street below? You might think that you’ve entered some kind of dystopian nightmare where helicopters fall from the sky and rain goes up instead of down. For a split second, anyway.

Is there any sight more worrying than the sight of this van parked outside your house or apartment? We’d wager not – especially if you live alone. If you do, this is definitely the kind of stuff you want to know about before moving into a new neighborhood.

Okay, so parking isn’t everyone’s forte. But have you ever seen anything as ludicrous as this? Should you ever look out of your window and see an overturned car, then it’s a pretty strong sign that you should probably move apartments.

Then again, when the flood is basically just a big puddle, it doesn’t seem quite so inspiring, somehow. This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “mind the gap.” Yes, if you looked out of your window to see this terrifying sight, you may well start worrying for the safety of your home against those ferocious waves. And you’d have a perfectly good reason to do so, too.

You know you live in a decent neighborhood when you look out of the window to find a bank robbery being foiled, as this imgur user did. Although, to be fair, that does actually speak more to the effectiveness of the local police force than the intelligence of the would-be burglars.

Then again, even seemingly classy neighborhoods are prone to bouts of craziness. This guy, for instance, didn’t seem to think twice about washing himself nude in someone’s water feature. Probably a good time to think about closing the curtains.

If this was anywhere other than party hotspot Ibiza, then this would be an utterly bizarre sight to see out of your window. In fact, never mind; it’s still crazy, even for Ibiza. Which is really just testament to how weird this sight actually is.

When you hear a crash outside your apartment or house, you don’t normally expect to look out to find that it wasn’t caused by a car, truck or bus – but by an airplane landing in the thicket across the street. Until it does happen, of course. Then, you probably expect it every time.

For Bananaman, the most expensive part of raising a family was altering the Bananamobile to include seats for his wife and kids. In fact, it almost made the whole thing totally un-apeeling. But thankfully, Bananaman was up to the job.

Imagine being woken up by the noise of someone playing Aerosmith songs at full volume in the street. Then imagine your annoyance turning to delight as you realize that it’s actually the real life Aerosmith playing an impromptu street gig outside the apartment that they used to live in. It doesn’t get much more surreal than this crazy event, which happened in Boston in 2012.

Nobody realizes just how serious a burst water main can be until it actually happens. Or at least, that’s what we assume is the case after seeing this photo. Did you know a water main could do so much damage? Just be grateful that this isn’t outside your window.

There’s nothing quite like looking out of your window to see a major Hollywood movie being filmed. In this case, it’s 2014 superhero sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. No biggie, then.

Sometimes, the endless repetition of your job just gets to you. At those times, it’s all you can do not to thrust a traffic cone on top of your head and race down the street pretending to be an airplane. Unfortunately, it appears that this guy couldn’t quite resist the temptation. Still, it makes for a pretty surreal out-of-window sight to brighten up your day.

You know you’re having a bad day when the riot squad turn up at your house. Alternatively, you know you live in a rough area when the riot squad turn up at your neighbor’s house. Basically, seeing a riot squad is never a good sign.

Isn’t nature wonderful? Most of the time, anyway. At other times, it’s just wonderfully horrifying. And while snakes are undoubtedly pretty cool creatures, this definitely isn’t the kind of thing you expect to see out of your apartment window.
