There are plenty of times in life where the only thing you can do is laugh. And these 20 horrendously cringeworthy moments are all cases in point – although perhaps the people responsible didn’t see the funny side of their mishaps at first…
We know life doesn’t make much sense when you’re two years old. And, certainly, the world is still a big, scary place at that age. But it’s still funny when a toddler thinks that the blocky folks at Legoland are real people. And thanks to a quick-thinking adult with a camera, he’ll never live it down – not even when he’s a teenager.
When you’re traveling, it can be difficult to keep track of things. Like which city you’re in. Or, more specifically, which Italian city you’re in. And also which monument you’re visiting. But, really, who wouldn’t confuse the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum? After all, they’re just so alike.
Sure, this doesn’t look like the most appetizing concoction, but, believe it or not, there was actually some method behind this chef’s madness. Although the explanation for it is exactly the one you’re likely thinking of: they were totally wasted at the time.
Apparently, this woman didn’t even realize anything was amiss until she arrived at work. And by that time, of course, it was far too late to do anything about it – except embrace the embarrassment, that is, or pretend that her mismatched shoes were a cutting-edge fashion statement.
If your car still has a cassette player, you may want to try educating any younger passengers as to its purpose before traveling. Otherwise, they could end up like this guy, who seemed to think it was some kind of docking station for his cell phone and totally ruined his device while trying to “connect” it.
If you’re trying to set an alarm on your phone, it’s probably a good idea to make sure you’re actually in the correct app. Unlike this unfortunate person, who tried to wake themselves up using their phone’s calculator. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t work.
We’re almost prepared to give the barista the benefit of the doubt here. Indeed, they may have just been finding a way to inject a little humor into their day. At least, that’s what we’ll tell ourselves, if only to keep our faith in humanity intact.
Sure, this little guy’s mom has mistaken picture day for pajama day. But the damage is done, so he may as well laugh at the situation. Or, indeed, immortalize his mother’s error with a face that says, “You know exactly what you did.”
Imagine finding out that your mom has no idea what the family dog looks like. And now imagine finding that out via text, as she asks you whether a dog picked up by the warden is yours. The only rational thing to do is to broadcast her embarrassing gaffe on Twitter, right?
It doesn’t matter how rich and powerful you are – you can’t just go around picking up adults, even if you mistake them for children. But that’s exactly what British businesswoman Lady Michelle Mone of Mayfair did in Vietnam in 2016. Thankfully, though, she had the ability to laugh at her own slip-up, and she tweeted her misfortune to her million followers so that they could chuckle about it, too.
If your cat has no clearly distinguishing features, you may want to give it a collar. Otherwise, you could end up making the same mistake this guy did. Specifically, he paid $130 to have what he thought was his pet treated by the vet – then five days later, his own feline walked through the door. Turns out that the cat he had been giving medication to was actually his neighbor’s. Oops…
In 2017 police apprehended 24-year-old Ross Lebeau after they suspected him of possessing meth. Three days after the arrest, however, they let him go after realizing that the “drug” in question was cat litter. Yeah, we’re not sure how the officers responsible are ever going to live that one down. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve all since taken early retirement.
As cringeworthy moments go, Milan Schipper’s example takes the cake. What he wanted was a flight to Sydney, Australia; instead, however, he somehow booked a ticket to Sydney in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. But that wasn’t even the most embarrassing part of his sorry tale. That’s because the 18-year-old didn’t even realize his mistake until he was aboard a plane traveling from Toronto.
We’re not even sure how this happened. After all, how little attention must you be paying to drive off with the fuel nozzle still in your car? Luckily for everyone else, though, someone captured this embarrassing incident on camera. And we can’t deny it’s pretty hilarious.
At some point, many of us have shown up to a costume party without an outfit or otherwise wearing one with the wrong theme. But the moment when you turn up in a costume while everybody else is wearing normal clothes is a special kind of humiliating. Especially when you’re portraying a character as ghoulishly scary as the Babadook…
How bad a driver do you have to be to crash your car in an empty bit of the parking lot? Well, exactly this bad, it turns out. Still, it’s easily done, right? Or, at least, that’s what this woman was probably told to save her blushes. We’re sure she’ll laugh about it one day…
If you’re having a bad day, take solace in the fact that it’s probably not as disastrous as this person’s. Either they’ve overloaded their washing machine with way too much detergent, or they’re having the most ambitious bubble bath of all time. No matter which it is, though, it’s not going to end well.
How has this woman not noticed that her curling irons aren’t plugged in? Then again, it’s probably for the best: if they were connected to the mains, she may have been in for a shock, thanks to that wire sitting in the sink.
Social gaffes provide the most mortifying moments in life – not least because other people can then attest to your stupidity. And we certainly don’t envy this woman, who somehow managed to mix up her left and right while trying to help a blind man.
Really, it doesn’t matter how cool, calm and collected you are: an instance of social awkwardness is never too far away. Take what happened to this woman, for example: she unfortunately told an elderly shopper with a discount card that he was “ready to expire.” Hopefully he saw the funny side…
