There are some things in life that make you so uncomfortable that you just want to curl up into a ball and refuse to face the real world ever again. And, yes, while the horrors seen in these cringeworthy photos might not be world-ending scenarios in the grand scheme of things, they will surely make your flesh crawl. Don’t say we didn’t warn you, though.
20. Measuring tape typo
Ikea is normally known for how perfectly everything inside the package fits together – as long as you follow the instructions. But no amount of guidelines could save this disaster of a typo. Indeed, it’s making us uncomfortable just thinking about it.
19. Stock photo soldering
OK, so nobody said stock photos have to be totally scientifically accurate. But that doesn’t make this one any less cringeworthy. And if you’re not familiar with a soldering iron, just know that the metal part that she’s holding can reach anywhere up to 660 ºF. You hold the plastic handle, you see.
18. Bathroom mirror
While this photo definitely makes us uncomfortable, it’s probably way more uncomfortable for the people who actually have to use the restroom. This poorly thought out use of a reflective surface has undoubtedly led to some awkward glances – and some even more awkward conversations.
17. Misaligned stovetop
It appears that quality control has gone out the window as far as this stovetop is concerned. And whoever let this misaligned monstrosity leave the manufacturer has a lot to answer for. Like just how this can be fixed.
16. Misplaced tile
We’ve no idea who’s responsible for this horrendous act, but we’ve also no issue with saying that they should probably think about a career change. After all, if you mess up a floor design this catastrophically then there’s really no hope.
15. Angled door
As a fashion statement, this door is pretty cool. At least for the first three or four seconds. Then you process what’s actually going on and your stomach begins to churn. Indeed, it’s one of those things that your brain just can’t join up in your head – and it sends out a feeling of deep unease.
14. Folder frenzy
What kind of monster lets their desktop screen get this out of hand? Sure, some people operate best in an organized mess. And hey, maybe this guy’s just found the perfect way to hide the folders he really doesn’t want people seeing. But it’s making us cringe just looking at it.
13. Shattered glass
Or at least that’s what will undoubtedly soon be raining down on anyone who tries to throw a ball into this hoop. We’re no masters of design but even we know that this is about as badly thought out as it gets.
12. Building bricks
If you can look at this picture without wanting to take an industrial-strength saw straight through the end of that overhanging brick then you’re a more restrained person than we are. Somehow, we suspect that you’re equally ill at ease with this travesty, however.
11. Lowercase signage
Wherever in the world these signs are located, it must be a pretty laid back place. After all, the signs that are found there don’t feel the need to shout out at you in capital letters. Indeed, they’re probably offering suggestions rather than instructions. Unfortunately, we’ve become so used to the norm that this makes us feel like something just isn’t quite right.
10. Mismatching lightbulbs
According to the imgur user who posted this horrendous picture, the person responsible for the mismatched bulb couldn’t tell the difference between them. If that was our roommate, we’d be looking for somewhere else to live.
9. Horizontal slicing
While the potential for enormous sandwiches from this horizontally sliced bread does sound tantalizing, it’s offset by the fact that there’s something very wrong here. Sure, slicing from an unexpected direction doesn’t seem like the biggest thing to get cut up about – but it really, really is. What machine did this? How did it get bagged and sent to a shop? And what else are they doing wrong?
8. Stacked baskets
We’re not sure how quite so many people ignored this horror and continued stacking baskets on top. Indeed, if we’d stumbled across this, we wouldn’t have even been able to pause long enough to take a photo before tearing the whole thing down.
7. Askew construction
Apparently, it took the owner of this house five years to realize that it had a catastrophic flaw. Yes, those steps simply don’t line up with the column. There’s only one solution for it: it’s time to move house. And you might as well burn it down on the way out – nobody’s going to be able to live with this, after all.
6. Off-center door
It’s almost like these architects are doing it on purpose, now, just to torment us. Were the designers genuinely stupid enough to do this by accident? There’s at least one explanation that’s more plausible. And that’s malice.
5. Inverted elevator buttons
“Some men just want to watch the world burn,” Alfred told Bruce Wayne in the 2008 movie The Dark Knight. But he wasn’t talking about the Joker – clearly, he was talking about whichever maniac was behind this inexplicable piece of design.
4. Out of sync sink
When you’ve messed up this badly, you’d think that the first thing you’d do would be to rectify the situation. Instead, it seems whoever’s responsible for this deeply uncomfortable desynchronization has decided just to forget about it entirely. We can’t handle this…
3. Triangular elevator
While actually standing in this elevator would probably make us feel uncomfortable for an entirely different reason, just looking at the picture is already pretty skin-crawling. And we’re certain that every human alive would feel claustrophobic in this thing.
2. Skewed parkers
We’d love to know which of these vehicles started this horrific trend. After all, once one or two cars have parked like this, the rest really have little choice but to do the same in order to maximize the remaining space available. Either way, it’s making us cringe.
1. Horizontal drinks holder
Presumably seconds after this photo was taken, gravity did its job and the cup lid subsequently gave way to the volume of liquid pressing against to it. To summarize, then: horizontal cup holders are very, very bad. Indeed, it’s no wonder this picture is making your head hurt.
