Keanu Reeves Crashed A Couple’s Wedding And Left The Guests Stunned With His Actions

Wedding crashers come in all shapes and sizes, from drunken revelers to Hollywood superstars like Reeves. No booze-fueled high jinks from him it seems, though! Noted as an introvert, Reeves reportedly isn’t one for the whole showbiz lifestyle of glitzy parties. While fellow actors appear to have a largely professional relationship with him, members of the public tell a different story.

At work he’s firing guns and leaping over cars. Away from the camera he seems to focus on kind gestures, however, and generally behaving like a good citizen. For example, his medical foundation helps children in need. Wait a minute: Keanu Reeves runs a foundation? Yes indeed. You wouldn’t know it of course, because his name isn’t featured anywhere. 

That’s the way he wants it. “I don’t like to attach my name to it,” the man himself said in a 2009 interview. “I just let the foundation do what it does.” This shows Reeves isn’t some ego-driven commander in chief but someone with a thoughtful approach to life. He’s happy to place his trust in others and go on a journey together.

Multiple accounts reveal a surprisingly approachable and considerate individual. A report from 2015 revealed he gave up his seat on the busy New York subway for a lady with a large bag, who clearly needed to take the weight off. Not that many people wouldn’t do the same, we’re thinking, but it certainly raised eyebrows that a movie star was doing it.

Reeves might well be amused that we’re drawing attention to this everyday act of kindness. He’s obviously one of life’s gentlemen and wouldn’t see it as a big deal. Still, in other cases he most definitely goes above and beyond. For instance, a young fan who worked at a cinema once failed in his attempt to bag Reeves’ autograph during a visit. 

To his amazement, he didn’t have to worry. Reeves dropped by to deliver a signed receipt from the concessions stand. Why a receipt? It seems he purchased an ice cream specifically for the purposes of having something to sign. The food was reportedly dropped in the bin. Now that’s food waste — tut tut — but hey, it’s hardly the crime of the century.

We mentioned earlier that Reeves seems more at ease with the public than his celebrity colleagues, but that isn’t always the case. He reportedly had a very close friendship with fellow star Sandra Bullock, with whom he made action movie Speed and later romantic drama The Lake House. The former movie took both their careers in a high-profile direction.

Of course, there’s a little more to the story than meets the eye. The happy event actually happened on camera, and saw him getting hitched to… Winona Ryder. 

In the early 1990s the pair worked on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the production required commitment from its cast. In fact this is an understatement, as Reeves revealed in a 2018 interview. When their characters tied the knot, Coppola employed the services of a bona fide priest. Why employ an actor when you can go for total realism?

Speaking in 2020 Ryder revealed how director Coppola’s idea to hurl abuse at her off camera to get her into character proved less than inspirational. Coppola wanted her fellow actors to join in, but they weren’t into the vibe, Reeves included. “Keanu wouldn’t,” Ryder said, “Anthony (Hopkins) wouldn’t… the more it happened, I was like… It just didn’t work.”

Evidence of Reeves’ respectful conduct toward women has also been observed when he attends premieres. Whereas the tendency is for an actor to kind of grab hold of actresses for photo opps, Reeves shows gentlemanly grace, keeping his hands where everyone can see them. He portrayed a heroic figure in Dracula, and his face definitely fit the role.

Coppola isn’t a director known for doing things by half measures. But when director Victor Levin reunited Reeves and Ryder for a movie in 2018 things were definitely a little lighter. Comedy-drama Destination Wedding further promoted the idea that these two were destined to be together, albeit in a fictional sense. The film cast the “married couple” perfectly against a sun-drenched California backdrop.

Reeves and Ryder play a seemingly mismatched couple on their way to the same ceremony, who clash before somewhat predictably falling in love. Unlike Dracula, it wasn’t a box-office smash and received mixed reviews. Yet it was a pleasant throwback for those who grew up enjoying the stars as they appeared in classic flicks including Beetlejuice and the Bill & Ted series.

 One couple who probably didn’t need a dramatic scenario to get together are James and Nikki Roadnight from the U.K. We’ll be honest, “Roadnight” sounds like a surname you might hear in the mega-successful John Wick movie franchise. So it stands to reason that their wedding was attended by none other than Reeves himself. How did it happen?

Well, for starters it helps if you have a Hollywood star at the same hotel when you’re exchanging vows. Northamptonshire’s Fawsley Hall was hosting the couple’s big day, and according to reports Reeves was in the bar. James took the initiative and walked up to the living legend. He must have been relieved to find that the actor was approachable.

On the happiest day of your life, why not invite a movie star to join you for a drink, right? If you can ask anyone that question, it’s probably Reeves. True to form, he showed up and posed for some photos with James, Nikki and her five-year-old girl. The photos show a relaxed-looking Reeves helping everyone celebrate. 

Alcohol wasn’t on his mind, reportedly due to him being jet-lagged, but he chatted to the newlyweds and made a memorable time even more memorable. Reeves isn’t the first big-name celebrity to crash a wedding. Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance at a ceremony in New Jersey back in 2016. This time, though, she’d been specially invited by the groom’s sister!

As for Reeves’ own wedding, we’re not sure when we’ll see that. His connection to Winona Ryder aside, it seems he’s in no hurry to walk up the aisle. Plus he’s a busy man. The John Wick series keeps going and he recently reprised the role of Neo in game-changing action franchise The Matrix for its latest installment, Resurrections.

Whether he eventually chooses to get hitched or not, he’s still someone who’s happy to celebrate other people’s happiness, whenever, wherever. It’s all part of what makes Reeves one of the best-respected individuals in showbusiness. For many years, though, Reeves appeared to be living the single life. That meant it was huge news when he attended a Los Angeles gala with a strange new mystery woman on his arm.

It turns out that the couple’s relationship goes way back. In fact, it’s thought Reeves and his partner have been good friends since the late 2000s. Over the years, their once-platonic connection obviously grew into something more romantic. But why exactly did the John Wick star’s flame get everyone’s tongues wagging? And who exactly is she?

Well, for starters, her name is Alexandra Grant. She originates from Ohio but now lives in Los Angeles, and she studied history and studio art at Swarthmore College. Then, after graduating in 1994, she began to make a name for herself on the American art scene.

It’s worth noting, too, that Grant has had experience in the film world. In 2015, for example, she took to the director’s chair for the first time to shoot a documentary called Taking Lena Home. Many have also spotted that Grant bears a striking resemblance to another Hollywood A-lister: none other than Helen Mirren!

Mirren herself has commented on the comparisons. She admitted, too, that she was delighted to be mentioned in the same breath as Grant. “That was very flattering on me, you know, because [Grant’s] obviously lovely,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

And Mirren had nothing but positive things to say about Reeves, who had starred in The Devil’s Advocate – the 1997 thriller directed by her husband Taylor Hackford. “I do know Keanu very well… he is just the most adorable, lovely person. So she’s a lucky girl, and I’m sure that he’s a lucky boy,” the actress continued.

Grant has known Reeves for quite some time, too. As far back as 2011, the pair worked together on Ode to Happiness – a picture book aimed at an adult audience. That collaboration proved to be so well-received that the pair joined forces again in 2016 for their second book Shadows.

And Reeves and Grant certainly appeared to enjoy each other’s company. They attended several book signings as a duo, and Grant couldn’t stop gushing about the actor in an interview to promote Shadows – a book that combined her silhouette photography with his poetic words.

But that professional relationship gradually appeared to evolve into a full-blown romantic one. In May 2019 the pair were pictured on the red carpet at a Museum of Contemporary Art benefit show in Los Angeles. And they seemingly couldn’t stop beaming as they posed for photos together.

Then, a month later, Grant and Reeves were pictured hand-in-hand at a Saint Laurent fashion show in Malibu. And in October that same year, the couple were spotted in a loving embrace as they left a Hollywood eaterie.

An unnamed source confirmed to People that the pair were no longer just friends. In November 2019 they said, “[Reeves and Grant] started dating earlier this year, but [they] have wanted to keep it quiet. Keanu wants to openly share his life with her. He is extremely happy and grateful to have Alex in his life.”

This all went a little under the radar until Reeves and Grant stepped out at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in November 2019. And social media duly went into meltdown after pictures emerged of the pair once again holding hands on the red carpet. But it wasn’t just about the fact that the famously private Reeves was being openly affectionate.

That would have been big enough news in itself. It’s not often that Reeves opens up about his personal life! But a few juicy tidbits have come out over the years. It’s said, for instance, that he was in a three-year relationship with one of his first big-screen co-stars. Apparently, Reeves began dating Jill Schoelen after they appeared together in Babes in Toyland.

That relationship fizzled out, with Schoelen moving on to none other than Brad Pitt. Then in 1992 Reeves supposedly began dating Sofia Coppola, whose father, Francis, directed Bram Stoker’s Dracula. This relationship has never been confirmed, mind you. What would seem to be Reeves’ most serious relationship to date, however, ultimately ended in tragedy.

That relationship was with young actress Jennifer Syme. Things sadly wouldn’t work out, however. The pair first began dating back in 1999, with Syme becoming pregnant not long after. Sadly, Ava Archer Syme-Reeves arrived stillborn on Christmas Eve that same year. The loss understandably put a strain on the pair’s relationship, and they ultimately took the decision to split.

Shockingly, less than 18 months after the death of her firstborn, Syme lost her own life in a car crash. She had been driving down Cahuenga Boulevard in Los Angeles and had seemingly lost control of her vehicle. Under the shadow of this tragedy, a distraught Reeves put his work commitments on hold to deal with his grief.

The star had been set to film The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions back to back when the fatal accident occurred. And guitarist Bret Domrose – who has played with Reeves in grunge band Dogstar – would later claim that his bandmate had needed “peace and time” before resuming his career.

Years later, Reeves discussed channeling this sense of grief while working on the original John Wick. In 2019 he told The Guardian, “For the character and in life, it’s about the love of the person you’re grieving for. And any time you can keep company with that fire, it is warm. I absolutely relate to that, and I don’t think you ever work through it. Grief and loss – those are things that don’t ever go away. They stay with you.” Grant may have had to navigate these choppy waters with her actor boyfriend.

But the artist apparently hasn’t been put off. And she was full of praise for Reeves when she was interviewed about their book Shadows. “No one can move the way he can,” Grant enthused in a 2016 chat with the Los Angeles Times. “He’s a really extreme performer. That’s a huge piece of why those images are so interesting. I knew that if I moved the camera as we danced together, as photographer and subject, we could create these wonderful optical illusions.”

Reeves was also present for this particular interview. And the journalist asking the questions appeared to recognize that there was perhaps something going on between the pair. In the piece, the reporter remarks, “In conversation, the two friends share an easy rapport and speak in a comfortable shorthand fueled by inside jokes and knowing smiles.”

In another 2016 interview with W magazine, Grant discussed how she and Reeves inspire each other when collaborating. She said, “We can spend a lot of time debating. Like, ‘A raspberry hue? And should it be darker?’ We can get obsessive.” A few years later, though, and it was Reeves’ fans who were getting obsessive. It was all to do with a little fact about Grant.

You see, unlike many of his Hollywood peers, Reeves was dating someone who was considered age-appropriate. Admittedly Grant is still nine years younger than the much-loved actor, but you have to consider the timing. A month before the LACMA gala, 65-year-old Dennis Quaid had announced his engagement to Laura Savoie – a Ph.D. student 39 years his junior.

One particularly supportive fan tweeted, “It’s a miracle: Hollywood actor dates age-appropriately. An artist with a full head of grey hair to boot. Keanu, I could not love you more at this moment.” Another wrote, “Just when I didn’t think he could get more wholesome, Keanu dates within his age group despite his peers often dating young women. Fantastic man.”

By the same token, some were just pleased that one of Hollywood’s nicest guys was in love. One Twitter user posted, “I don’t know him, but am I really happy that Keanu Reeves has found someone to be happy with? Too right I am. Keanu is a blessing to us all and deserves all the happiness.”

Reeves was also praised by another approving fan for dating a “smart, creative, independent woman.” However, not everyone was as enthusiastic. “Keanu Reeves’ girlfriend is a decade younger than him – not ‘the same age,’” one unimpressed Twitter user pointed out.

“People really need to stop freaking out about Keanu and Alexandra,” wrote another in agreement. “Dating someone in your age bracket isn’t courageous; it’s... normal. He’s proven time and time again he’s a regular guy. Let’s stop with this amazement about who he’s dating and wish them both well.”

Others didn’t like the fact that Grant’s age had come into the equation. One Twitter user wrote, “Is the most fascinating thing to talk about Alexandra Grant really her age? She’s a highly accomplished artist, a philanthropist, and a babe. Can she please not be reduced to ‘Keanu’s age-appropriate girlfriend?’ She’s a spectacular woman in her own right; he’s lucky to be her man.”

At least these comments were still supportive. Other less positive Twitter users were equally quick to make harsh remarks about Grant’s appearance. “Men age like wine; women age like milk,” read one particularly cruel tweet. “Keanu deserves a kind girl in their 20s or 30s at the latest, not a great-grandma” was another.

The negative comments continued. “What is this? He should be bagging hot, young, feminine women, not some old, tattooed feminist,” carped one poster. But then Grant and Reeves probably don’t really care what folks on social media say about them. And if one report is to be believed, the artist has been a source of comfort for the Matrix star when he’s needed it.

Life & Style has claimed that Grant has helped Reeves to come to terms with his tragic experiences. An anonymous source told the magazine that the artist is “one of the few people who’s managed to get Keanu to open up about his emotions and past. Some say she’s not only stolen his heart, but she’s also saved him.”

An unnamed friend also said, “[Reeves] was in such a dark place for so long, but Alexandra’s positive outlook and support have played a huge part in helping him turn his life around.” And, apparently, Reeves was attracted to Grant as “she is kind, warm and spiritual… and she is a great communicator.”

But it’s not just Reeves’ new relationship that has got people talking in recent times. The actor has also managed to charm fans in his usual way: by showing that he’s a downright nice guy. Yes, stories of the John Wick star’s generous nature continue to flood the internet. And one example seems to have made a particularly big impact.

It’s safe to say that 2019 was a big year for Keanu Reeves. The actor appeared in Toy Story 4, Always Be My Maybe and the third installment of John Wick – to name just a few projects that kept him busy. But in July Reeves showed up in a totally unexpected place: a fan’s backyard. You see, a woman had left a sign out for the Speed star – and his startling reaction made news across the internet.

This is understandable, of course, as Reeves certainly holds a special place in the hearts of many movie fans. And this is partly because he’s appeared in so many successful films, including Point Break, The Matrix franchise and the Bill & Ted series. But the Canadian actor’s popularity also boils down to the fact that he normally comes off as a damn nice guy.

Yes, the internet is abound with stories of Reeves crossing paths with everyday people and doing awesome things for them. So any news of Reeves interacting with the public is bound to turn a few heads. Take, for instance, in 2001 when the star visited a cinema in Sydney, Australia. Working there at the time was fan James Dator – and he was in for a huge surprise.

In May 2019 Dator actually shared his celebrity encounter in a series of tweets. He explained, “I’m working at the box office [and] bored as hell, and suddenly, this dude walks up in jeans, a leather jacket and a horse riding helmet… It takes me a solid 30 seconds to ignore the helmet and realize it’s Keanu Reeves.”

And just as many fans presumably would have, a starstruck Dator reportedly wanted Reeves’ signature. “I do what any sensible 16-year-old does and tell [Reeves] I’d like to give him my employee discount,” Dator explained. “This means he needs to sign my sheet, and therefore I have his autograph.” Unfortunately, though, the actor seemingly didn’t catch on, and, puzzled, he informed the teen that he wasn’t a member of staff.

Then, just when Dator thought that he’d blown his chance, something remarkable apparently happened. “Two minutes later, there’s a knock on the door behind me that leads into the box office,” Dator tweeted. “I assume it’s my manager; it’s Keanu... ‘I realized you probably wanted my autograph,’ he says.” And Reeves had reportedly then handed the teen a receipt that he’d signed.

But Dator’s story gets even more touching. He claimed, you see, that Reeves had thrown something in the trash on his way out of the office. And as a result, it had dawned on Dator that the star had gone out of his way to make a fan happy. “I realize later that [Reeves] bought an ice cream cone he didn’t want just to get receipt paper so he could scribble his autograph for a 16-year-old idiot,” Dator explained.

If you’re thinking that Reeves’ sweet gelato gesture was a one-off, however, think again. Because in a 2010 Reddit thread, internet users shared stories about their own experiences with the amicable actor. And as it turned out, a lot of people had nice things to say about the action hero.

For instance, a user called bo2dd2 wrote, “Back in the late ’90s and fresh out of college, I got my first job as an assistant prop designer on the set of Chain Reaction (Keanu was a supporting actor with Morgan Freeman). Every day for the last few weeks of filming, Keanu treated the stage hands and “grunt workers” (including myself) by taking us out for free breakfasts and lunches. He was genuinely a very nice guy to work with.”

Interestingly, Reeves helping out workers behind the scenes of his films seemed to be a theme in the thread. Another user, for example, wrote, “A family friend builds movie sets – doesn’t design – is one of the poor dudes that just builds. Anyways, he worked on the set for The Matrix, and Keanu heard about family trouble he was having and gave him a $20,000 Christmas bonus to help him out.”

The Redditor went on, “[Reeves] also was one of the only people on the set who genuinely wanted to know people’s names, would say hello and mean it and would talk to people as his peers and not below him just because they were practically making nothing to build a set.”

There were non-movie-related stories about Reeves on the thread, too. “A friend of mine told me that she was once stranded on the side of a highway outside L.A. when her jalopy broke down,” one Redditor wrote. “She had no cell phone (that was before most people had cell phones) and no way to call for help. Then, a nice black Porsche pulls over, and as you can guess, it was Keanu.”

Not only did Reeves apparently help the poor woman out, but he was also a true gentleman about it. “He tried to help her jump-start the car, and when it didn’t work, he called AAA for her,” the user continued. “When they towed her car, he offered to drive her home, which she accepted. He drove about 50 miles out of his destination just to drive her home. She told me she hoped he would hit on her, but he didn’t.”

Incidentally, this isn’t the only time that Reeves has garnered praise for being well-mannered around women. In June 2019 users of Twitter pointed out, for instance, that when Reeves poses with a female fan, he usually doesn’t touch her skin. “It’s not about not taking chances,” one person tweeted. “It’s about being considerate and respectful – qualities that Keanu carries in spades.”

Another story on the Reddit thread also tells of Reeves giving away extravagant gifts on set. “I had a few friends working special effects jobs on The Matrix movies,” one user explained. “[Reeves] bought all of them f**king Harleys for Christmas during the shoot for the second one.”

And Reeves himself backed up this heartwarming story. “We were all in this thing, and we were training together beforehand,” the star told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 2003. Apparently, he’d gifted the motorbikes in order “to give a bigger thank you” to the people who’d helped him make the standout fight scenes in The Matrix Reloaded.

But if the star’s chivalry and offers of free motorbikes aren’t proof enough, there’s even more evidence of Reeves being an all-round wonderful person. For one thing, the actor does a bunch of charity work – and he’s very humble about it, too. “I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research. I don’t like to attach my name to it,” Reeves told Ladies Home Journal in 2009.

Given Reeves’ nice-guy reputation, then, it’s unsurprising that fans have fallen in love with him – so much so that he’s been labeled “the internet’s boyfriend.” And when the one-time Mr. Anderson discovered this flattering title, his reaction was suitably adorable. “I didn’t know that… That’s wacky,” Reeves said in June 2019 at the premiere of Toy Story 4 after People informed him of the moniker. He added, “The positivity is great.”

Speaking of wackiness, it’s actually Reeves’ quirky side that some of his fans are most obsessed with. And this certainly came to the forefront in June 2019 while the actor was presenting a panel for the video game Cyberpunk 2077 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. In fact, Reeves’ interaction with one of the audience members was so amusing and sweet that it spawned a meme.

Talking about the experience of playing the game, Reeves explained, “The feeling of being there – of walking the streets of the future – is going to be breathtaking.” In response, audience member Peter Sark shouted out to the Canadian actor, “You’re breathtaking!” And Reeves quipped back, “You’re breathtaking! You’re all breathtaking!”

As a result of the cute interaction at the gaming conference, then, the word “breathtaking” has become associated with Reeves. Memes referencing the moment began springing up within hours of the show ending, in fact. And Sark used the experience as a way of spreading his own positivity. When the fan was offered a free copy of Cyperpunk 2077 by the developers, you see, he turned it down in favor of a charitable donation.

So, what better way to get Reeves’ attention than with a sign reading, “You’re Breathtaking”? Well, this was the bright idea that one superfan from Slidell, Louisiana, had in July 2019. Reeves, you see, was in town shooting Bill & Ted Face the Music, which is going to be released in 2020. And while the actor was en route to set one day with scriptwriter Ed Solomon, he spotted the notice out on a front lawn.

According to Solomon, Reeves hopped out of the car and immediately went over to the sign. The family who’d made it snapped some photos of the star scrawling his autograph below their message, and Solomon subsequently put the pics up on Twitter. “So, yesterday this sign was out on a lawn on the way to set,” he wrote. “Keanu jumped out of the car and did this.”

The fans behind the stunt, it transpires, are the Hunt family. Apparently, 16-year-old Ethan had been thrilled to learn that Reeves would be in his area to film Bill & Ted Face the Music. He’d then asked his mom, Stacey, if they could put out a message for the star – and she was delighted to.

And after placing the sign on the lawn, Stacey had observed many people stopping to take a look at it. But she was, of course, amazed when Reeves himself showed up. “Three people got out of the car and were walking into my yard, and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s Keanu Reeves!’” she told Nola.com. “I probably said ‘no way’ about a dozen times.”

And not only did Reeves sign the placard, writing, “Stacey, you’re breathtaking,” but – being the true gentleman he is – he even asked permission first. “I could not believe that he was in my yard, and he was casual and like, ‘Can I sign your sign?’” Hunt told the website. “Ethan did the whole ‘You’re breathtaking’ bit – with the posture – and he did it back. It was just epic.”

Needless to say, Hunt was thrilled that Reeves had dropped by. “My heart has been racing for three days. Speed, The Lake House, Point Break – we’ve been watching Keanu Reeves movies for 20 years if not more,” the Louisiana resident said. “The fact that he was nice enough to take the time to talk to us and take pictures – everyone says he’s a nice guy, and it’s true.”

Solomon made a similar observation on Twitter after Reeves’ sweet act went viral too. “This thing, strangely, has gotten a lot of press. [I’m] not sure why,” he wrote a few days after the event. “It’s a good guy doing a kind thing. But I can’t help but think that maybe it shouldn’t be so odd.”

That said, the Hunt family were nevertheless extremely grateful for their brush with celebrity. And on July 26 Stacey posted a message on Twitter from her husband. “It’s been very surreal for sure. Keanu could have done the easy thing and passed the sign up, but he stopped and brought a lot of joy to my wife and kids. For that I am very thankful,” the post read.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, then, Reeves’ touching gesture attracted a lot of praise. One internet user going by the handle keanu_is_my_muse wrote, for instance, “I have been a huge fan [of Reeves] for 33 years (since I was eight), and seeing things like this just solidifies it. [He’s] truly the kindest person I have ever met. A few minutes out of his day gave these people an experience they will remember for life.”

Yes, there’s no doubt that Reeves comes across as a legitimately nice guy. But his kindness to strangers is all the more remarkable when you know what a difficult life he’s led. In fact, the star’s troubles started when he was just a child. His father, Samuel, abandoned the family when Reeves was just three and later did time in prison for drug possession.

And Reeves had trouble at school, too. He was a self-confessed difficult child – even getting expelled from one institution. “I was just a little too rambunctious and shot my mouth off once too often. I was not generally the most well-oiled machine,” Reeves told Kevin J. Koffler in 1988. In fact, the star discovered later in life that he has dyslexia.

In 1993 Reeves also experienced heartbreak when he lost a good friend of his: actor River Phoenix. Phoenix was only 23 when he died as the result of a drug overdose. “I enjoyed his company very much and enjoyed his mind and his spirit and his soul,” Reeves told Rolling Stone in 2000 of his late pal. “We brought good out in each other. He was a real original thinker.”

Inevitably, Reeves has carried around his heartbreak all his life. In 2006 the actor told Parade magazine, “Grief changes shape, but it never ends.
