Women in developed countries may take access to sanitary pads for granted, but the situation in developing nations – where they’re less available and relatively more expensive – is nowhere near as good. This was highlighted by a survey commissioned by India’s government in 2011, which revealed that just 12 percent of the country’s women use sanitary pads.
