In Brandy Hollenbeck’s role as a flight attendant for Alaska Airlines, she may have dealt with some unusual incidents up in the air. And at least one memorable occasion will live with her forever.

After hearing a strange voice coming over the plane intercom, Brandy Hollenbeck was confused. And, as a result of the announcement, she rushed towards the front of the craft. When she got there, however, she was greeted by something – or, rather, someone – that she probably hadn’t anticipated encountering.

Hollenbeck herself lives in Anchorage, Alaska. And although her life there revolves around her family, that doesn’t mean that her feet have always been firmly on the ground. You see, Hollenbeck has worked as a flight attendant for Alaska Airlines.

And in her job, Hollenbeck may have learned to deal with all that air travel throws at a member of cabin crew. It’s perhaps fair to say, though, that one of her flights was particularly eventful. Indeed, what happened during a plane journey in March 2015 would go on to change her life.

At first, though, the shift in question may have been quite ordinary. Then, Hollenbeck was working on the route known as the “milk run.” Traditionally, the purpose of flights on that path has been to carry essential goods – such as milk – between rural communities in Alaska.

And after the plane had taken off as planned, Hollenbeck got to work serving refreshments to her passengers. However, as the craft was flying high above Alaska, a strange voice would come onto the intercom and start addressing everyone on the plane.

What’s more, the voice – which sounded as if it belonged to a man – then started telling a story. The tale was a romantic one, in fact, with a charming narrative. Still, it didn’t stop Hollenbeck from busily making her way down the aisle with her refreshments cart.

And the man began his love story by revealing how his mother once told him that she had met a “wonderful flight attendant while flying out on Alaskan Airlines.” Then, lo and behold, he had later met a captivating cabin crew member of his own.

“About two years ago, I happened to meet this beautiful blonde flight attendant, who was sitting there chowing down on a double cheeseburger,” the voice revealed. And from that moment on, he knew that he had to get her into his life.

“All I could think, folks, was, ‘My gosh, a flight attendant who has the courage to eat a cheeseburger in the terminal is a woman to know,’” he recalled. So, he went over and introduced himself. And the rest, as they say, is history.

According to the mystery man, he and the flight attendant “hit it off,” and so she agreed to give him her phone number. Then, soon after, he embarked on a whirlwind romance with the woman of his dreams. Now he was telling their story for everyone on his flight to hear.

And as Hollenbeck caught snippets of the narrative in between pouring drinks, she realized that the details sounded familiar. “At one point, I thought, ‘Someone up there is telling my love story!’ But I just kept serving coffee,” she told Alaska Airlines in 2015.

However, in time, something happened that meant that Hollenbeck couldn’t ignore the announcer any longer. That was when he said, “Brandy Hollenbeck, I’ve loved you since the first moment I met you, and I want to be the man for you for the rest of your life.”

And, at that point, the mysterious storyteller emerged from the flight deck and revealed himself to the passengers and crew. It was Hollenbeck’s pilot boyfriend Eric Greener – who, it had turned out, had snuck onto the plane to ask for her hand in marriage.

Then, upon seeing her love spring from the cockpit, Hollenbeck rushed down the aisle and leaped into his arms, with the couple’s embrace met by a round of applause from those around them. However, Hollenbeck had also kept everyone in suspense when it came to accepting her boyfriend’s proposal.

“I forgot to say yes!” she told Inside Edition in 2015. “It took a passenger to remind us that she hadn’t said yes,” Greener added. “I said, ‘What’s the answer?’ and she’s like, ‘Yes!’ I was like, ‘All right!’”

And after the romantic proposal, Greener would reveal the planning that had gone into it. In particular, in an interview for the Alaska Airlines website, he explained that he had gone to extreme lengths to ensure that he caught Hollenbeck by surprise.

To that end, Greener had called Hollenbeck’s fellow flight attendants the night before to let them in on the secret. And with them onside, he was able to sneak onto the plane undetected and take up a seat on the flight deck.

“We tried to keep her busy in the back of the plane during boarding so she wouldn’t see Eric board,” flight attendant RieAnn Fullwood later revealed. However, her and the other crew members’ efforts were worth it, as Greener’s plan would seemingly go without a hitch.

And, of course, passengers on the flight also got to share in the joy of the proposal – an experience that those who witnessed it are unlikely to have forgotten in a hurry. “I’m a Gold (frequent flyer),” one customer subsequently revealed to Alaska Airlines. “And I’ve never seen anything like that!”

Furthermore, Hollenbeck and Greener’s relationship is still flying high nearly three years after their engagement. They are now married, in fact, and are parents to a little girl named Molly. And, thanks to Greener’s proposal, they already have the perfect story to tell her when she’s older.
