Most people have had the experience of going to a restaurant and having noisy kids sat at the next table. Some people try to ignore it, while others complain to the manager. When these two moms were confronted about their kids’ behavior, they filmed their discussion with the manager and shared it online, in a bid to show the world how much he had offended them. But not everyone agreed.

The story starts on a normal day at a Shari’s restaurant. A mother and her sister were having a meal with their young children, when the kids started to cause a bit of a commotion. It seems they were being noisy and disturbing other people in the restaurant.

Anyone with children of their own knows that mortifying feeling when it’s your own kids causing noise and upset to other people. But it appears that these two women weren’t keeping their kids under much control at all. It was bad enough that the manager had to step in.

The restaurant manager walked over to their table and asked the women to get their kids to calm down a bit, as other customers in the restaurant were bothered by the noise. A heated conversation followed, and one of the women decided to start filming the whole thing.

The video soon hit YouTube, published with the title, “Rude Manager.” The film showed the exchange between one of the women and the restaurant manager and has garnered over 800,000 views. But it probably didn’t get quite the reaction that the women had wanted it to.

That’s because the women were clearly expecting the public to have sympathy for them. After all, the manager was being rude to them, wasn’t he? Well, the majority of people who left comments after watching the video seemed to think that the manager was actually being perfectly polite.

The video starts with the manager apologizing to the women for upsetting them, presumably by having asked them to control their kids. His demeanor is very calm and he is softly spoken, which is more than can be said for one of the women later on in the clip.

He continues by saying, “I didn’t come here to upset you,” but the woman in the film has clearly taken his request extremely personally. Next, she tells the manager that what he asked of them was “so incredibly offensive,” adding that they feel “incredibly unwelcome” in the restaurant as a result.

At this point, the manager maintains his professional air. He remains calm as more and more abuse is thrown in his direction. Then it suddenly becomes apparent that this woman might be hoping to get a little something out of their discussion.

She lets the cat out of the bag somewhat by saying, “I am very upset, and if you don’t fix this I’m going to call whoever is your superior.” The manager barely reacts, but people who watched the YouTube footage have called the mother out for wanting to get a free meal.

When the manager began to explain that he had kids himself, and could understand her frustration, she didn’t seem to want to hear it. Instead, she started throwing some big accusations around. She appears to insinuate that the manager must smack his children in restaurants in order to control them.

Having already made quite an aggressive move with that comment, the mother simply kept going, occasionally dropping in the odd curse word in front of her young children. The manager took a deep breath at this point and calmly reminded the irate mother of something.

“You’re the one that started dropping ‘F-bombs’ about the whole situation, not me,” he said, still with a cool, calm and collected manner. Not once throughout the entire recorded discussion did the manager raise his voice, curse or threaten the women. But then, the argument steps up a notch.

As the manager is trying to explain his position, the woman loses her temper. “You’re not letting me talk to you, you’re not showing me any respect. I’m not paying for this, are you kidding me?” she shouts. This leaves the manager with an opportunity to shut her down.

Without hesitation, he says to the angry mother, “Absolutely, you are. You can sue me, you’re paying for it.” And with that, she pulls out what she thinks is her trump card. She tells the manager that she is filming the whole thing and is going to show it to his boss.

“It’s going all over the internet,” she added. At this point, the manager doesn’t have anything else to say other than, “Come on, you guys,” in a bid to reason with the women. “I’m sorry for offending you,” he says, once again.

Then he asks for them to turn the camera off, which eventually they do, and so the video concludes. The video was uploaded to YouTube, but the stunt seems to have totally backfired – arguably making the pair look a little foolish.

It was supposed to be a “shaming” video, designed to show the world how awful the restaurant manager had been to them. However, the majority of comments online have said the exact opposite. Most people have praised the restaurant manager for the way that he handled the situation.

“I don’t know how the hell you can consider him rude, he was nothing but a professional, whereas you were nothing but awful to the guy. It’s not his fault you have no control of your children,” one user commented underneath the video of the altercation.

The women may have been embarrassed at being told to control their children, but their reaction was regarded by many as extreme. Perhaps their attempt to shame the restaurant manager, who was only trying to do his job, wasn’t the best way to handle it, after all.
