Photos Of The Cutest Baby Animals We've Ever Seen

We never get tired of puppies and kittens, but there's so much more cuteness outside of your living room! Tiny paws, goofy ears, and fluffy cotton tails abound in the wild — even among the most ferocious creatures. From the driest of deserts to the murkiest of swamps, there's a whole world of adorable baby animals for you to explore. The fact that many of these species are endangered makes appreciating their beauty all the more important.

Snugglin' up with a fennec fox

We know it's dangerous to domesticate wild animals, but just look at this baby fennec fox! With its big, goofy ears and tiny paws, it looks as harmless as a kitten. We wouldn't mind snuggling up with these adorable creatures if we had the chance.

The friendly sifakas

There's just something endearing about these friendly-looking primates. Their bright yellow eyes make them look as if they're always in awe of the world around them. Little do they know how in awe we are of them! We can't help but love these happy creatures, though the sifaka-centered TV show Zooboomafoo may have something to do with that.

What armadillos do best

This tiny armadillo is as sweet as could be, even at just two months old! This little armadillo looks so squishy and vulnerable, but it won't be long before his protective armor fully grows in. And if worst comes to worst, he can always do what armadillos do best: curl up into an impenetrable ball!

This gundi needs a sidekick

Frankly, we're surprised this young gundi isn't the star of his own Disney movie yet. He fulfills all of the requirements: he's small, spirited, and of course, extremely adorable! All he needs is a princess sidekick and he's all set for stardom. If only he could tap dance...

Palm-sized African bat

How could anyone be afraid of this little guy?! We know bats aren't the friendliest creatures, but this baby African bat wouldn't harm a fly — well, he won't harm you, at least. He's well on his way to becoming the fearsome nighttime predator we know and love, but for now, he's a palm-sized cutie.

Mother / child saigas

The apple clearly didn't fall far from the tree with this mother saiga and her baby. Not only do they have identical eyes and noses, but they even share the same relaxed walk! This little one will no doubt grow up to be just as adorable as its mother.

Smile big, axolotl!

Have you ever seen a more wholesome smile than this? Some axolotl species look quite grizzled in their old age, but this lil cutie is just as friendly as ever. The amphibians even have special powers: they can regenerate their limbs and even their own brain!

This Malayan tapir's eyes

All tapir species are born with these charming white stripes called "dappled markings," which helps them blend into the sparser parts of a forest. Not all tapir have this guy's soulful eyes, though! We'd love to spend a few hours gallivanting through the forest with this mischievous baby tapir.

This tree-kangaroo's happy grin

This wee tree-kangaroo seems to be having the time of his life, and all thanks to a tasty blade of grass and his loving mom. There's really nothing cuter than a mother cuddling her baby, especially if the baby has a tiny snout and two fluffy ears. And just look at that happy grin!

But can this dumbo octopus fly?

Though you wouldn't know it from this photo, dumbo octopi are known for the large, ear-like fins over each of their eyes, hence the nickname. And much like the cartoon character, this little guy is absolutely precious! His big eyes and tiny fins are an adorable combination.

Shy but playful coati

This baby white-nosed coati may be shy, but one day, she'll be just as social as the rest of her family! The raccoon-like creatures like to have fun together, and some even play-fight while searching for food. For now, though, this sweet gal is perfectly content to hide behind her mother's legs.

What is it, baby pangolin?

No, this isn't a statue! It's just a baby pangolin, and according to his stance, he has a rather important question to ask you! Refusing this scaly-but-adorable pangolin's request seems impossible to us. Who could say no to those small, shy eyes?

This pudu fawn is a loner

Don't be fooled by this girl's distinctive white spots and spindly legs — she's not your average fawn! She's actually a Southern Pudu, or one of the world's smallest deer species. Though she's being hand-fed in this photo, she'll grow to be quite solitary, and will only reunite with her species when it comes time to mate.

Eat your veggies, baby rhino!

We were immediately captivated by this mother and baby's expressive eyes. We can only assume that the mother rhino has sternly told her baby to eat its vegetables — or, uh, leaves — only for the baby rhino to resist. We hate veggies too, baby rhino!

Quolls are a handful...

This guy's a real handful! Though most quoll species grow to be around 2 feet long, this guy could probably fit in your pocket. He's also a tiny blessing: Eastern quoll are incredibly rare outside of Tasmania, and have even been considered extinct a number of times.

Small but mighty Honduran white bat

This wee bat is small but mighty, if its wonky ears and wings are any indication. This baby Honduran white bat is one of the few white bats out there, and it makes tents on the underside of plant leaves. And yes, its little yellow nose is extremely adorable for a bat.

The lovable elephant shrew

The elephant shrew may have the long nose and compact appearance of its namesakes, but its lovable personality is all its own! Elephant shrews are fast, intelligent, and obviously extremely adorable, even though they mainly eat insects. Nobody's perfect!

Delightful bat-eared fox

What do you get when you put a fox and a bat together? You get this adorable creature, an African bat-eared fox. It should come as no surprise that this fox breed is most known for its impressive (and delightful) ear size, which helps it track prey and regulate heat. Honestly, we just want to give it a hug.

This gerenuk calf is living the goof life

There's nothing cuter than a newborn animal dozing off in the sun. With her head tilted towards the sunlight and her beautiful eyes closed, this gerenuk calf (also called a giraffe gazelle) is definitely living the good life. She's simply enchanting!

This magical echidna puggle

No, this isn't a magical creature from the world of Harry Potter. It's actually a newborn Echidna Puggle! He'll eventually be covered in sharp quills, but for now, he's smooth as a baby's bottom — and can fit into the palm of your hand! It doesn't get much cuter than this.

Time for din-din, dik-dik!

What we'd give to feed this baby a bottle! This dik-dik (of the antelope family) has the innocent eyes of a doe with the sensitive lashes to match. We have a feeling this little guy wouldn't hurt a fly...as long as he always gets his bottle on time!

Aww! A baby aardvark!

Aardvarks may not be the cutest animals when they get older, but as babies, they can elicit a few awws! Just look at this guy's adorably-long pink ears and snout. Giant digging hands aside, he's a real looker!

Playful Patagonian Maras

Don't be fooled by the long ears and feet — these aren't bunnies. They're actually Patagonian maras, a type of rodent. But just because they're in the rodent family doesn't mean these beauties are pests! On the contrary, this playful species are often seen paling around with each when they're young.

The sweetest sugar glider

This gal is a real sweetheart, if her species name — sugar glider — is any indication. This nocturnal possum will one day glide from tree to tree in search of equally-sweet sustenance like sap and nectar, but for now, she seems perfectly content in this person's hand!

A great big tarsier hug

Tarsiers are usually anxious-looking primates, but this little one looks slightly more at ease. That's probably because he's wrapped up tightly in his mother's arms. And like most babies, tarsiers are extremely shy around anyone other than their mothers. We get it!

This chacoan peccary is still kickin'

Though the chacoan peccary was originally thought to have gone extinct hundreds of years ago, this little trooper is proof that they're still kicking! He seems quite energetic, too, if his excitement about being bottle fed is any indication. Oh, to be young and full of life again!

All hail the lowland streaked tenrec

Maybe it's the yellow stripes and pointy quills, but we wouldn't want to encounter this lil guy on a late-night walk through the woods. Well, actually, his teeny-tiny paws and long snout don't make him look that dangerous...in fact, he actually looks pretty cute!

Captivating camels

Now, this is one impressive mother/child duo! We wouldn't want to compete with them in a cuteness contest, that's for sure. The mother camel seems to be teaching her baby how to perfect a withering gaze and intimidating stance. They're definitely the wild's most captivating mother and child.

The joyful colugo

Check out this little bundle of joy! We can't imagine a cuter companion to glide from branch to branch with. It's hard to tell in the photo, but this baby is actually being carried by his mom in the canopy level of a forest. This newborn sunda colugo, or flying lemur, is truly adorable.

We're entranced by this okapi

Believe it or not, this zebra-like species is most closely related to giraffes. This particular okapi calf has the most enchanting eyes we've ever seen, much like her long-necked cousins. If we didn't know better, we'd think she was reading our minds!

Mischievous wild puppies

These charming creatures have "mischief" written all over them! We'd love to pal around with these fun-loving pups, but they're not exactly domesticated. Since they're some of the last wild dogs on the African continent, it's probably best if you observe their adorable antics from afar.

Roo has arrived!

Who has the sweetest eyes, cutest little paws, and a love of hopping? That's right, it's this guy! All he needs is a small blue shirt and an affinity for mischief and he'd be Roo from Winnie the Pooh. The only thing that would make this cuter is if Winnie himself dropped by!

Baby bongo to the rescue

Judging by the determined look in this baby bongo's eye, she was born a brave soul. Her distinctive red coat with white stripes make her an eye-catching sight in the wild. When she isn't setting off on a dangerous mission, though, this Africa-native is as cute as could be.

Happy Easter, little bilby!

With his characteristically silky fur and rabbit-like ears, we wouldn't mind cuddling up with this little fella! But since bilbies are endangered, you probably won't be able to cuddle up with one. You can, however, see them in some of Australia's protected national parks...or as the continent's version of the Easter Bunny!

Only good vibes with these babirusas

We've never heard of "babirusas", or "deer pigs", before, but they sure are a ray of sunshine. There's such a gentle (though hungry!) look in their eyes. It's hard to believe that in their native Indonesia, the babirusa's face is sometimes used as inspiration for demonic masks. There's nothing evil about these cuties!

Snow White's sidekick, the mouse deer

If Snow White's two favorite woodland creatures were combined, you'd get a mouse deer. Luckily for us, these adorable animals are very real, and can usually be found in parts of Asia and Africa. This little guy certainly looks like he just came out of a Disney movie!

Nothing like a hug from a proboscis monkey

There's nothing more comforting than a hug from mom when times get tough, so we totally empathize with this adorable baby monkey. One day, this baby proboscis will be just as strong and capable as her mom, but until then, she'll take all the hugs she can get!

This African civet is a fighter

Get your tissues ready! Many civets like this little one are caged and mistreated as part of the exotic coffee and bushmeat trade. On the bright side, this particular civet is young, healthy, and well on his way to being reunited with his mother, thanks to the zookeepers who rescued him.

An adorable takin moment

We seem to have stumbled upon another classic mother/child moment in the wild. It looks like the mother takin is trying to get her baby to have some fun, but the baby isn't having it. Or maybe she's trying to teach her baby about the importance of tongue hygiene? Either way, it's super cute!

Aye-Aye-yai!

Okay, so maybe this baby aye-aye won't win any awards for cuteness, but he's adorable in his own special way. From his bulging yellow eyes to his spindly fingers, you won't find another lemur quite like him in Madagascar. Plus, he probably looks much calmer when there isn't a camera flash in his face!
