In today’s world, it seems like no aspect of any major celebrity’s life could possibly go unreported – and yet these 19 marriages either went completely under the radar or were instantly forgotten about. Some of them may well surprise you.
19. George Clooney and Talia Balsam
When George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin in 2014, Hollywood bid farewell to one of its most famous bachelors. But as it turns out, Amal wasn’t the first woman to march Clooney up the aisle. The actor was actually wed to No Strings Attached actress Talia Balsam from 1989 until 1993.
18. Demi Moore and Freddy Moore
Demi Moore was actually born Demi Gene Guynes, so where did the Moore come from? Well, before either Bruce Willis or Ashton Kutcher were in the picture, the actress wed musician Freddy Moore in 1980. The pair split on good terms in 1985, with Freddy even telling London’s Daily Mirror many years later that his ex-wife was a “genius.”
17. Ozzy Osbourne and Thelma Riley
It’s hard to imagine Ozzy Osbourne without Sharon by his side. But before Shazza, the rocker had another woman in his life: Thelma Riley. Thelma and Ozzy tied the knot in 1971, but in his 2009 autobiography I am Ozzy, the singer admits cheating on his wife repeatedly and says he “put that woman through hell.” They divorced in 1981.
16. Elton John and Renate Blauel
Elton John revealed he was bisexual to Rolling Stone magazine in 1976 and on Valentine’s Day 1984 he tied the knot with a German woman named Renate Blauel. The relationship lasted until 1988, when the couple reached a multi-million dollar divorce settlement.
15. Angelina Jolie and Johnny Lee Miller
Angelina Jolie is now one half of power couple “Brangelina,” but from 1996 to 1999 she was wife to British actor Jonny Lee Miller. The pair met on the set of Hackers but when they married, the bride didn’t wear white. She wore black pants and scrawled her new hubbie’s name in blood on her t-shirt.
14. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito
Before Bradley Cooper began making Oscar-nominated films with Jennifer Lawrence, there was a different Jennifer in his life. Cooper was briefly husband to Jennifer Esposito from 2006-2007, and it seems things didn’t end well. In her 2014 memoir Jennifer’s Way, the Blue Bloods actress referred to a certain ex as a “master manipulator.”
13. Caitlyn Jenner and Chrystie Scott
Before he was ever Caitlyn Jenner or the husband of Kris Jenner, Bruce Jenner was married to a woman named Chrystie Scott from 1972 to 1981. Jenner told ABC News last year that Chrystie was probably the first to know about his true gender identity.
12. Anna Faris and Ben Indra

11. Macaulay Culkin and Rachel Miner
Macaulay Culkin’s marriage to fellow child star Rachel Miner was a big deal at the time, but now it’s all but forgotten about. Both were 17 when they married in 1998 and, unsurprisingly, by 2002 they were divorced.
10. Jennifer Garner and Scott Foley
Before her high-profile marriage to – and split from – Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner said “I do” to Scandal actor Scott Foley from 2000 to 2004. In a 2003 interview for TV Guide Foley blamed the split on Garner’s sudden rise to fame saying: “Nobody else was involved. Jennifer became a huge celebrity. She became a huge star, and she deserved everything.”
9. Charlie Sheen and Donna Peele
Before Charlie Sheen’s life imploded, he was married to model Donna Peele. The actor married his first wife in 1995, six weeks after meeting her, and they divorced six months later. Now, Donna seems to be wisely avoiding the public eye.
8. Portia de Rossi and Mel Metcalfe
Arrested Development actress Portia de Rossi is best known as the wife of Ellen DeGeneres, but she was actually married to a man from 1996-1999. Portia doesn’t talk about her ex, Mel Metcalfe, very much – possibly because he left her for her sister-in-law.
7. Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers
Tom Cruise’s marriages to Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes were so publicised it’s easy to forget he was married before them. But the actor was actually hubbie to Two and a Half Men’s Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990 – and it was she who introduced him to Scientology.
6. Will Smith and Sheree Zampino
Think Jada Pinkett was Will Smith’s first wife? Think again. Between the years 1992 and 1995, he was married to actress Sheree Zampino, and she’s the mother of his 23-year-old son Trey.
5. Nicolas Cage and Patricia Arquette

4. Jennifer Lopez and Ojani Noa
Jennifer Lopez hasn’t had much luck with relationships. Before there was ever “Bennifer,” she had a low-profile wedding to waiter Ojani Noa. They stayed together just one year, from 1997 until 1998. Jen has tried hard to keep the details of her first marriage under wraps, and in April 2006 the singer had to sue Ojani to stop him writing a book about her.
3. Johnny Depp and Lori Anne Allison
Johnny Depp is never out of the spotlight, but his first wife has been strangely forgotten about. Yet before Winona, Vanessa and Amber, the Hollywood star enjoyed a brief marriage to make-up artist Lori Anne Allison from 1983 until 1985.
2. Sofia Vergara and Joe Gonzalez
Back in 1991, when she was aged just 18, Sofia Vergara married her high school boyfriend Joe Gonzalez. The couple divorced in 1993, but not before Vergara had her son Manolo, who now has Spider-Man’s Joe Manganiello as his stepdad.
1. Kim Kardashian and Damon Thomas
Kim Kardashian has lived a ridiculously over-documented life, but she’s managed to keep one part of her past relatively private. Not everyone knows that the reality star was wed to music producer Damon Thomas from 2000-2004. In her divorce papers, Kim alleged that Damon had been controlling and physically abusive throughout their marriage.
