Country singer Jessie James Decker and her NFL star husband Eric recently returned to our screens with their eponymous E! reality show. But the celebrity power couple announced their most exciting news of 2017 in an adorable post on Instagram. Here’s a look at the story that has made their millions of fans across the world go “aww.”
Born in Vicenza, Italy, in 1988, Jessie James Decker experienced a nomadic childhood thanks to her father’s U.S. Air Force duties. The self-described “country girl at heart” began writing songs in Nashville aged 15 and two years later signed to Mercury Records. Her 2009 self-titled debut album reached number 23 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the US Top 40 single “Wanted.”
Frustrated by the more pop-oriented direction she was being pushed in, Jessie spent much of the next decade in record company limbo. She did get to release several EPs, however, and in 2017 finally dropped her long-awaited second studio effort, Southern Girl City Lights. The record gave Jessie her first number one in the US Country Album chart.
The singer has also ventured into TV, with a co-hosting stint on Redneck Island alongside Steve Austin in 2014. A year previously, she landed her own reality series, Eric & Jessie: Game On. Airing on the E! network, the show followed the day-to-day lives of the country music star and her NFL wide receiver boyfriend Eric.
Born in Cold Spring, Minnesota, in 1987, Eric Decker began his footballing career at the University of Minnesota. In 2010 he was selected in the third round NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos in a deal worth $2.5 million. He enjoyed his breakout season two years later, during which he achieved the second highest amount of touchdowns for a wide receiver.
In 2013 Decker made it to the Super Bowl where the Broncos lost to the Seattle Seahawks 43-8. He moved to the New York Jets a year later, but following a difficult season in which he suffered a shoulder injury and received a fine for a late hit, was released in 2017. Shortly afterwards, he signed with the Tennessee Titans.
But Eric’s profile grew considerably thanks to events off the field. He first began making the gossip pages in 2011 when he stepped out with country singer Jessie James. The pair struck an instant connection after being introduced to each other by one of Jessie’s friends, and just a year later the pair announced their engagement.
The pair couldn’t stop gushing about each other from that moment on. Jessie told the media, “Eric is a great man. He is my soul mate. We feel so fortunate to have found each other.” Eric responded in kind, saying, “It’s truly a blessing to find my soul mate and best friend. I am excited to spend my life with her.”
The celebrity couple got hitched in the summer of 2013 and had their wedding party in the picturesque surroundings of Castle Rock’s Castle Cliff Estate. The ceremony was filmed for their very own E! reality show, Eric & Jessie: Game On, which first hit screens that same year. Three months after the wedding, Jessie announced she was pregnant with their first child.
Jessie and Eric welcomed daughter Vivianne Rose into the world in March 2014. Then, 18 months later, the pair added to their family unit with the birth of son Eric Thomas. But the couple didn’t want to stop there. In an interview with E! promoting the third season of their reality show, Eric admitted he was keen for a third child.
And the NFL star didn’t have to wait too long. During the middle of their reality show’s third season run, he and Jessie took to Instagram to announce that the Decker family would be expanding once more. And they revealed the news in the cutest way possible.
Indeed, in the short clip the pair can be seen informing their three-year-old daughter Vivianne ‘Vivi’ Rose and two-year-old son Eric ‘Bubby’ Thomas II of the happy news. Amusingly, the latter seems distinctly nonplussed. But, adorably, the former has an opposite reaction.
Indeed, Vivi can’t contain her joy on learning that she’s about to get a new sibling. After her mom tells her that “Jesus helped put a baby in mommy’s tummy,” the three-year-old begins clapping enthusiastically. This is in stark contrast to her brother, who seems more interested in his iced tea than the prospect of a new baby.
Jessie later told People that Vivi had desperately wanted a new sibling for quite some time. So much so, in fact, that the youngster repeatedly prayed for a baby brother or sister alongside her rosary-waving grandmother. Just 17 months older than Eric, Vivi had been too young to get excited about the birth of the Decker family’s previous addition.
Alongside the heartwarming video, Jessie also posted a joyous message for all of her Instagram followers. “Eric and I are so excited to share with y’all that we are expecting baby Decker number 3! […] we are over the moon and feel so blessed and can’t wait to meet this little one end of March.”
As you’d expect from the stars of a reality show, Jessie and Eric have continued to keep the public updated about their impending third child. The former recently revealed her baby bump on Instagram with the message, “Feeling kicks finally. My placenta is in front so it’s been really tough to feel this little man. Finally feeling him!!!”
In an interview with Mini Magazine, Jessie also revealed how excited she is about welcoming her third child into the world. “I love nursing my babies,” she said. “It’s such a special bond for me.” The country star went on to admit that breastfeeding and the smell of a new baby are two of things she’s most looking forward to.
In the same interview, Jessie explained how motherhood has helped her to become a more grateful and selfless person. “Having a family is just my fave altogether,” she said. “I love having these babies that love you unconditionally. It’s amazing to always have such strong love. I feel so fulfilled.”
In October 2017, the Deckers revealed that they would be having a baby boy. Appearing on TODAY, Jessie admitted that her daughter Vivi was initially disappointed she wasn’t getting a new sister but is now fully on board with getting a second brother. In fact, she kisses her mother’s belly every single day.
But the Deckers are keeping schtum about one particular aspect of their new arrival for now – his name. The only clue Jessie offered E! News was that her second son will be named after a Southern character from one of her favorite films. The singer is expected to give birth in March 2018.
