It’s not always easy making long hair look good. Maintaining lengthy locks can take a lot of time and effort, after all, even if you do have top hairstylists on speed dial. But the men in this list certainly know how to work it; here, then, are the top 20 male stars who nailed the long-haired look.

20. Taylor Kitsch

After bursting onto screens in 2006 as Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights, there can be no denying that Taylor Kitsch is most recognizable for his long hair and good looks. Since then, however, the actor has admitted to Jimmy Fallon that he went through a questionable hair phase when he frosted his own hair tips. Stick to the long locks, Taylor!

19. Harry Styles

As one-fifth of One Direction, it was Harry Styles’ long locks that made him stand out from the rest of the band. However, in 2016 he went for the chop to raise money for charity, and his new ’do can soon be spotted in Christopher Nolan’s 2017 epic Dunkirk. Maybe he’ll grow his locks back when he’s finished filming? We hope so!

18. Hugh Jackman

Not only is Hugh Jackman one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood, but his hair often follows suit. From buzz cuts to side bangs, he’s tried them all. 17. Ben Barnes

He’s best known for his roles in Dorian Gray and as Caspian  in The Chronicles of Narnia, but Ben Barnes is also notorious for his long ’do. And while the actor might have gone for a shorter look in 2015, we think that his longer locks work so much better.

16. Josh Holloway

Josh Holloway played Sawyer on Lost and was recognizable for his long blond hair. But in 2013 it got the chop for Sabotage, where instead he rocked a buzz cut. He’s since kept his hair short for CBS show Intelligence. And while the star admitted that he was massively relieved to lose his Lost hippie look, we think it definitely suits him.

Without doubt, Sebastian Stan’s flowing brown locks make him stand out. He has admitted that the long hair was for the role of Bucky Barnes in Marvel’s Captain America franchise, and with the actor contracted for more of the films, we’re sure his long ’do will be sticking around for a while.

14. Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal is known for going above and beyond for his roles, from dropping 30 pounds for Nightcrawler to putting on even more for Southpaw. Keanu Reeves is practically synonymous with his surfer-dude floppy hair. In 1994, however, that all changed when he bagged a starring role in Speed. 12. David Beckham

Victoria’s husband has had more hairstyles than soccer boots! Indeed, from buzz cuts to braids, the soccer star has never been shy experimenting with his off-pitch looks. Kit Harington’s long hair is courtesy of his role as Jon Snow in HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones, but he cut it short for his film Testament of Youth. He also cut it, moreover, to convince Thrones fans that his character had died at the end of season five. What a tease…

10. Orlando Bloom

Whether it’s buzzed, spiked or curly, Orlando Bloom knows how to own a hairstyle. But it was definitely his long, brown mane that made Bloom look most attractive in his role as Will Turner in Pirates of the Caribbean. Since then, Bloom has recently experimented with a quiffed style; we think his long locks, however, are so much better.

When Ashton Kutcher took over from Charlie Sheen for the ninth season of Two and a Half Men, his style changed, too. In fact, with that role came a new, disheveled-looking Kutcher, as the actor grew his hair and beard for the part. But the look didn’t last, and he quipped about the move to shorter hair by saying, “Jesus wanted his look back.”

8. Tom Cruise

All the way back in 2003, Cruise went for a shaggy hairstyle for his role in The Last Samurai. Since then, meanwhile, the versatile actor has gone through a range of looks, including a close crop and slicked-back style. Still, we can’t help but think the actor looks his best with a longer cut.
