Kate Moss’ Daughter Is All Grown Up – And She’s Turning Heads Just Like Her Gorgeous Mom

Rewind time to the 1990s, and you couldn’t so much as walk past a newsstand without seeing the gorgeous Kate Moss staring up from the glossy fashion mags. Glamorous. Sexy. And just plain fabulous. The model turned heads wherever she went. It was perhaps only natural that her daughter, Lila, would grow up with the same gorgeous good looks and ability to grab everyone’s attention.

Lila does have the perfect genes, after all. Her mom’s iconic cheekbones and large, widely spaced eyes are what helped make her the face of so many brands. Designers seemed to love working with Kate’s neutral expression. To one person, she could look happy and playful, and to another, she could look serious and intense. From Chanel to Calvin Klein, everyone wanted her.

Though it was one lucky modeling agency called Storm that first discovered the future icon. Its founder, Sarah Doukas, spotted 14-year-old Kate at JFK Airport, where she was on the way back from a vacation in the Bahamas. And within 12 months, the little star-in-the-making bagged her first cover shot.

And it was quite the cover, too. The image was the brainchild of Corinne Day, a photographer who helped to shape the grunge movement of the 1990s. In the shoot for The Face magazine, Kate wore the kind of headwear typically associated with Native Americans. And the black and white pic actually helped to shape her career.

Kate then shot to worldwide fame in the early 1990s when she signed a deal with Calvin Klein. The model stripped down, flaunting her impressive figure alongside Mark Wahlberg for the brand’s underwear range. But it was actually the commercials for the fashion house’s fragrance Obsession that truly put Kate on the map.

It’s fair to say that these particular advertisements caused quite the stir, too. The model’s slender frame raised questions as to whether the Calvin Klein label was deliberately celebrating under-weight women.

You see, prior to this the fashion scene had been focused on curvy, tall figures. Kate was famously slim, only 5 feet 7 inches tall and dressed far more casually than your typical supermodel. And the response to her distinctive look was so overwhelming that she essentially changed the face of the industry. So could her daughter have benefited from this, too?

That same year Kate also featured in the pages of Vogue magazine for the first time. And just weeks afterwards, she was chosen to be a cover star for the style bible. Kate would eventually achieve the same feat for the British edition more than 30 times, setting a record in the process.

Though Kate was seldom far from controversy, she always remained in demand. The star was asked to front campaigns for everyone from Dolce & Gabbana to Dior throughout the 1990s. And while many of her peers were deemed old hat by the time they reached 25, Kate managed to keep on booking high-profile gigs well into the new millennium.

And Kate’s impressively lengthy service to the world of modeling hasn’t gone unnoticed, either. In 2005 she was named as a Fashion Icon by the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America. And eight years later the British Fashion Awards acknowledged Kate’s contribution by giving her the Special Recognition Award.

Kate’s appeal extends far beyond the fashion world, too. She’s been invited to appear in music promos for artists as diverse as Elton John, The White Stripes and Marianne Faithfull. The model’s also taken to the vocal booth herself, contributing to records by rock band The Lemonheads and Britpop giants Oasis.

In 2007 Kate showed off her business sense when she collaborated with British retailer Topshop on a new range. It proved to be so successful that she was asked to launch another line three years later. A third then hit stores in 2014.

And Kate’s Topshop range isn’t the only sign of her entrepreneurial spirit. The model also teamed up with Longchamp to design a new handbag collection in 2010. Kate has put her famous name to fragrances, lipsticks and jewelry, too. Little wonder, then, that her fortune reportedly stands at a cool $70 million.

Of course, Kate’s become just as famous for her eventful private life as her enduring career. In the mid-1990s she became a tabloid favorite thanks to her relationship with Johnny Depp. Friendships with other high-profile names such as Stella McCartney and Jude Law also kept her in the gossip pages.

In the early 2000s Kate finally looked like settling down when she gave birth to daughter Lila Grace. Sadly, though, just two years later the model split with Lila Grace’s father Jefferson Hack, the one-time editor of ultra-cool Dazed & Confused magazine. But the pair still have a good relationship and share their parental responsibilities, too. But who does Lila Grace most take after?

Speaking to The Sunday Times in 2016, Hack stated that their daughter will always be the main priority. “I spend a lot of time with Lila Grace,” he said. “She’s 13 and my relationship with her and her mum, Kate, is the thing I’m most proud of. That is life with a capital L... Everything else is window dressing.”

Hack went on to reveal that his daughter spends one weeknight at his home and two weekends every month, too. The writer also admitted that despite having two style experts as parents, Lila Grace still gets embarrassed by them. Hack revealed, “She thinks me and her mum are deeply uncool.”

Following her split with Hack, Kate entered into a turbulent relationship with hell-raising musician Pete Doherty. And a drugs scandal of her own cost the star numerous deals. But after a stint in rehab Kate bounced back in style, with Burberry just one of many firms that gave her a second chance.

Things appeared to have settled down on the romantic front, too, in 2011 when Kate tied the knot for the first time. The model said “I do” to Jamie Hince, the guitarist for rock duo The Kills, at a countryside ceremony. Kate sported a John Galliano-designed dress inspired by The Great Gatsby for the occasion.

Daughter Lila Grace had an important role at the service as well. She was one of no fewer than 15 people chosen to serve as bridesmaid. And further proving that there were no hard feelings between the pair, Kate also invited Lila Grace’s father to watch her walk down the aisle.

Sadly for Kate, though, the marriage didn’t turn out to be for keeps. Just five years after getting hitched, she and Hince filed for divorce. But judging by pictures that emerged in 2018, both Kate and her daughter Lila Grace are still on good terms with the guitarist. The three seemed to get on like a house on fire during a friendly get-together at a Los Angeles restaurant.

Since 2015 Kate has reportedly been dating Count Nikolai von Bismarck, a German-British photographer who’s more than a decade younger than her. And the supermodel isn’t the first high-profile name the aristocrat’s been linked with, either. He was also rumored to have dated British royal Princess Beatrice during his teenage years.

Thankfully, it seems that Lila Grace approves of her mom’s latest squeeze. In 2020 she was pictured joining Kate and von Bismarck at a 46th birthday celebration for the supermodel. The trio were spotted enjoying a quiet meal at Parisian establishment Brasserie Lipp. And as she’s done throughout her life, Lila Grace drew comparisons with the birthday girl.

Yes, with her blond locks, petite slender frame and raised cheekbones, Lila Grace looked the spitting image of her mother when she was in her late teens. And the similarities between the two are more than just superficial. Lila Grace is also following in Kate’s footsteps by pursuing a career in modeling.

Lila Grace bagged her first modeling job at the very same age that her mother had done, too. That’s right: at just 14, the youngster was chosen as the poster girl for The Braid Bar. And then two years later Marc Jacobs Beauty signed Lila Grace up.

Jacobs himself later posted on Instagram about how impressed he’d been with Lila Grace during the shoot. “Lila’s beauty, composure, patience and kindness made this project even more special than I could have imagined,” the designer wrote. “With each look we photographed, she got into each character effortlessly and gracefully.”

Later in 2018 Lila Grace also landed a solo magazine cover. And it just happened to be for Dazed, the publication her dad once edited. Kate helped give her daughter a career leg-up, too, when she signed Lila Grace to her eponymous agency, which also represents the likes of Gwendoline Christie and Rita Ora.

Lila Grace once again had everyone believing they’d stepped back in time when she made her Paris Fashion Week debut in 2020. The star couldn’t have resembled her mother any more closely as she strutted along the catwalk at Miu Miu’s Spring Summer 2021 event. On her Instagram account, Lila Grace thanked organizers “for allowing me to debut at the dreamiest show.”

Good job, then, that Lila Grace doesn’t seem too bothered about constantly being compared to her mom. In fact, she seems to embrace it. The youngster will regularly coordinate her outfit with Kate’s. For example, in December 2020 the mother and daughter both sported leather jackets for a night out at exclusive London venue Oswald’s.

And Lila Grace has even been known to pay tribute to her mother’s supermodel heyday with her outfits. In 2020 she rocked up to a bash thrown by designer Kim Jones in a leather jacket, Chanel bag and, most notably, a see-through dress. The latter was very similar to the metallic gown Kate donned for an Elite Model agency event when she was in her late teens.

While promoting fragrance Perfect, Lila Grace also credited Kate for inspiring her. She recalled, “I remember when I was two, my mum and I were staying in New York. She was getting ready to go out and I saw this super sparkly, deep black eye shadow on her dressing table. I made one of her friends apply it on me and spent the rest of the evening tottering around the room in a pair of my mum’s high heels.”

In 2021 Kate and Lila Grace made spectators at Fendi’s Haute Couture SS21 event do a double take when they entered the stage together. The teen later took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes pic of her and Kate. And she once again proved that she’s probably the politest young model on the scene with a message of gratitude to designer Kim Jones.

Just a month earlier, Lila Grace had penned a similar message to the team behind her first ever solo Vogue cover. “My heart is so full,” the teen wrote in capital letters about her experiences on the shoot for the Italian edition of the style bible. “Thankful for everyone who made this possible and for the amazing team who made this so special. Grateful x1000 today.”

Of course, this wasn’t the first time Lila Grace had adorned the cover of Vogue. The youngster appeared alongside her mother for the Italian edition in June 2016 that was themed around love and family. Kate and Lila Grace were photographed for the magazine in black and white by the former’s ex-boyfriend Mario Sorrenti.

Lila Grace may have enjoyed the kind of success that most aspiring models can only dream about. But there’s still no guarantee that she’ll pursue a career in the industry. In the accompanying Vogue Italia interview, she said, “I’m still studying full time at school, and kind of figuring out what I want to do after that.”

Thankfully, Lila Grace still has the unwavering support of both mother Kate and father Jefferson no matter what she chooses to do. The youngster, who surprisingly said that 1960s icon Twiggy is her fashion role model during the interview, added, “My parents have always encouraged me to do what I love, creatively. And I’m very grateful for that.”

Kate certainly couldn’t stop beaming when she was asked about Lila Grace by the British edition of Vogue in 2020. The supermodel told the magazine, “The best thing about the ’20s is my relationship with Lila and having a teenage daughter.” Kate also revealed that she felt anxious during Lila Grace’s runway debut.

Recalling the moment, Kate said, “I was sitting around the kitchen table and Katy England was there and Rosemary [Ferguson] and like, some girlfriends, and we were like waiting for the show to start on the link, and when she came out, we were like, ‘Ah, she’s doing it! She’s doing it!’ I was really proud.”

Then in January 2021 Lila Grace paid tribute on Instagram to the woman she undoubtedly owes her striking looks to. Alongside a smiley black and white baby pic in which she’s grabbing the hands of mom Kate, the youngster wrote, “Wishing you the happiest birthday ever. I love you so much.”

A few weeks after turning 47, Kate decided she wanted to work with Lila Grace again. The model had launched a butterfly-themed fashion line, the proceeds of which will be shared with charity Save the Children. And she roped in her daughter to help promote the KMA Studios range of hoodies and t-shirts.
