40 Of The Most Beautiful Stars Who Got Everyone Talking In 2020

2020 was, to say the least, a bit of a crazy year. Yep, almost the entire world was in lockdown. But we were at least entertained by a plethora of funny, exciting, or interesting-for-all-the-wrong-reasons celebrity stories. All these gorgeous women made headlines throughout the year, so let’s revisit what they were doing.

40. Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie was one of the lucky people who actually got to be in a cinema-released movie in 2020. That was the Harley Quinn film Birds of Prey – her second outing as the famous DC Comics character. But there’s more. Robbie found herself nominated for an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe for the movie Bombshell that year. Wow!

39. Shakira

Who was the most searched musical artist in 2020? Well, considering all the wild celebrity stuff that went on that year, you might be surprised to learn it was Shakira. Though her sexy performance with Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl definitely got people talking. According to The Independent, it even drew in 1,300 complaints, which is a good sign it was a massive success.

38. Adele

Let’s face it, a lot of us put on weight during 2020. But not Adele – she lost it! In June that year she unveiled a brand new slimmed-down look and blew everyone away. Her inner circle credited the sudden transformation to a sirtfood diet and the help of a fitness expert. But it must have taken a lot of willpower as well.

37. Ruby Rose

There was bad news for those who wanted to see more of Ruby Rose as television’s Batwoman. In May 2020 the model-turned-actress announced she would be stepping down from the role. Why exactly this was she didn’t say. And apparent sources told Deadline that it was not due to an injury she had previously received while filming. Ah well, she’s still the internet’s girlfriend – with or without a cape.

36. Serena Williams

Serena Williams reached new heights in her tennis career come 2020, but really did anyone expect anything else? In January she won the Auckland Open – something she hadn’t done since 2017. This not only marked her first win since becoming a mother, it meant she had won at least one title in four consecutive decades. Oh, and Williams donated her prize money to Australian firefighters as well.

35. Ariana Grande

Once upon a time, Ariana Grande was engaged to Pete Davidson, but she called that off. Fast forward a couple of years to 2020 and she’s engaged again! This time it’s to a real estate agent called Dalton Gomez. He gave her a truly impressive $350,000 engagement ring made of diamond and pearl, according to the Daily Mirror. Second time’s the charm, right?

34. Jada Pinkett Smith

In 2020 Jada Pinkett Smith introduced a whole new term into internet discourse. This word was “entanglement,” and she used it to describe her relationship with August Alsina while still married to Will Smith. It was a fun little drama, although maybe not for Alsina, who released a song called “Entanglements” in the midst of it.

33. Katy Perry

Katy Perry became a mom in 2020! Announcing the pregnancy, she dropped a music video “Never Worn White” in March and showed her baby bump off to the world. Then a few months later she and Orlando Bloom announced the birth of the child – a little girl they called Daisy.

32. Elizabeth Debicki

Statuesque beauty Elizabeth Debicki quietly conquered the entertainment world in 2020. Debicki’s got plenty more coming up in the next few years, too.

31. Alica Schmidt

Alica Schmidt took sports Twitter by storm in 2020. The young track and field star was made fitness coach for German club Borussia Dortmund. She also happened to be voted “World’s Sexiest Athlete” by an Australian magazine that year. But she cares about sport more than her looks it seems. Schmidt turned Playboy magazine down when the publication inevitably came calling.

30. Khloe Kardashian

In 2020 it was announced – to the joy of some and the sorrow of others – that the long-running Keeping Up with the Kardashians was coming to an end. 29. Jennifer Aniston

There was supposed to be a Friends reunion in 2020, though of course it got pushed back. It was a big year for Jennifer Aniston in other respects though, and some of that involved her ex-husband Brad Pitt. 28. Bindi Irwin

The Irwin family has a special place in the hearts of many people. It’s been a delight watching Steve’s daughter Bindi grow into a beautiful woman and have a family of her own. 27. Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa had a more productive 2020 than… well, possibly anyone. She released a new album – Future Nostalgia – which immediately broke three records on Spotify. 26. Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell may have been one of the biggest names of the ’90s, but she never really went away. In fact, the star proved in 2020 how good an entertainer she still was. Campbell appeared as a judge on the Amazon Prime show Making the Cut. She also provided a helpful service by getting people to work out with her via Instagram Live videos.

25. Demi Lovato

Everything seemed to be going well for Demi Lovato at the beginning of 2020. She went into lockdown with her boyfriend Max Ehrich and insiders claimed they were becoming closer than ever. Then in July they got engaged – only to reverse that decision within a few months. Anonymous sources claimed it was an amicable split, but social media posts from Ehrich indicated that maybe it wasn’t.

24. Gal Gadot

Poor Gal Gadot; a clearly well-intentioned performance spiraled way beyond her control. Even in a year full of news, one of the top stories for a while was Gadot’s “Imagine” music video and how tone-deaf it was. She later admitted it wasn’t the best idea. At least her new Wonder Woman movie got a release that year, though.

23. Alex Morgan

The famously gorgeous football player Alex Morgan became a mom in 2020. Her daughter Charlie Elena Carrasco was born on May 7 – and after that it was pretty much straight back on the field. She joined the Tottenham Hotspur’s women’s team in the United Kingdom and scored two goals before heading back to the U.S.A.

22. Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish shaved her head in 2020, and she taught a few people a lesson about body shaming in the process. Later the star showed off her new look in a DoorDash commercial during the 2020 Emmys.

21. Gwen Stefani

The Voice star Gwen Stefani had a pretty big year. Co-star Blake Shelton finally popped the question to her in October 2020 after the couple had been dating for five years. The engagement ring is a massive diamond one worth $500,000, according to Hello! magazine. Plus, when the wedding takes place it’s certain to be spectacular.

20. Brie Larson

The video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons was massive in 2020. And there was no better cheerleader for it than actress Brie Larson. She happily showed her in-game island off to fans and answered questions about it on her new YouTube channel. It was a pretty successful year for Larson – even if she spent some of it as a cute little cartoon avatar.

19. Zendaya

The lovely Zendaya made history at the Emmys in September. She was up against several older, more established actresses for Best Actress in a Drama Series. But Zendaya was the one who actually won it. At 24, the star also became the youngest person ever to get the accolade. Naturally, the internet rejoiced, and so did she.

18. Reese Witherspoon

In 2020 Reese Witherspoon won the internet by creating a viral meme. Yes, really. “The Reese Witherspoon Challenge” was everywhere during the summer. It involved using Witherspoon’s characters – or those of your fave celebrity – to represent the months of the year and how, well, 2020 each one was. It was silly but tons of fun.

17. Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is, of course, one of the biggest stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And in 2020 she and her character Black Widow were all set to get a solo movie. Alas, it’s been pushed back now. But despite temporarily losing her big blockbuster, it was still a pretty good year for Johansson. In October she got married to Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost.

16. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga had a pretty standard year for her – i.e. massive success. She released a new album which shot straight to number one and won no less than five awards at the MTV Video Music Awards. But one of her most talked-about moments happened when she went on Jimmy Fallon’s show, didn’t realize the camera was live, and told him she wasn’t ready for the interview yet. Oops. Celebs, they’re just like us.

15. Ana de Armas

Knives Out actress Ana de Armas was one half of the biggest celeb couple of 2020. She and Ben Affleck were spotted hanging out with the latter’s children and apparently they even moved in together at one point. Though to the disappointment of their fans, it didn’t last. By January 2021 they had broken up, and the internet was suddenly awash with “BenAna Split” jokes and speculation.

14. Kylie Jenner

Reality TV star Kylie Jenner hit somewhat of a roadbump in 2020. The previous year Forbes had named her the world’s youngest self-made billionaire – but in May 2020 they went back on it. Apparently, it alleged that she had misled them. But Jenner’s response on Twitter was, “I can name a list of 100 things more important right now than fixating on how much money I have.”

13. Paige Spiranac

Paige Spiranac – the famously gorgeous pro golfer – added a few more achievements to her CV in 2020. First of all, she started a podcast called Playing A Round, where the star talked about her exciting sporting life. And later on in the year she was named the most beautiful woman in the world at the People Who Inspire Awards.

12. Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish had several things in the pipeline for 2020 which ended up being pushed back. One of her songs is the title track for the James Bond movie No Time to Die, but it’s not out at the time of writing. Plus, she had to postpone her “Where Do We Go?” tour. But she also won six Grammys and became the youngest person on Forbes magazine’s highest-paid celebrities list, so it’s not exactly all bad.

11. Kelly Clarkson

Unfortunately, Kelly Clarkson probably won’t look back on 2020 with happiness, because that was the year she got divorced. After seven years of marriage to Brandon Blackstock, she suddenly filed for divorce in June of that year. Naturally, fans were absolutely blindsided.

10. Anya Taylor-Joy

Anya Taylor-Joy told The Sun newspaper in 2020, “I have never and I don’t think I will ever think of myself as beautiful… I just think I’m weird-looking.” Though legions of people disagreed with her – including all those who watched her hit Netflix show The Queen’s Gambit that year. She’s now very much an in-demand actress!

9. Rihanna

Rihanna put her Savage X Fenty Show on Amazon Prime in 2020, and it was pretty amazing. There were all sorts of celebrity cameos – Paris Hilton, Demi Moore and Lizzo were just some of the names. And Vogue magazine described the whole thing as “jaw-dropping.” Yet that’s not all Rihanna did that year. She also donated a large sum to pandemic relief efforts.

8. Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez had a really good year. First of all, she released a new album – her first since 2015. Then she launched a new makeup brand and gained a million social media followers within 20 minutes of launching, according to People. Later, Gomez did something lots of us probably wanted to do during lockdown and adopted a puppy!

7. Taylor Swift

Megastar Taylor Swift did her absolute utmost to keep people entertained in 2020. She released not one but two surprise albums: Folklore and Evermore. And this was all the more impressive considering that during that year she was also re-recording six of her albums due to a difficult-sounding copyright dispute.

6. Mariah Carey

Not for nothing is Mariah Carey known as the queen of Christmas. She demonstrated this nicely in 2020 by putting on a festive spectacular called Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special. Unsurprisingly, it topped the Apple TV+ charts in not just America but all over the world. Carey also released a reading list that year – with her own new memoir on it.

5. Emma Corrin

Emma Corrin became a star in 2020 for one simple reason: she played Princess Diana in The Crown. The actress was also very good at it. For instance, British newspaper The Times wrote that she was “a tour de force.” She won’t be playing the royal in the next series, though, as Elizabeth Debecki will portray the older Diana. But it’ll be thrilling to see where she goes from here.

4. Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez played the Super Bowl in 2020 alongside Shakira. That would be good enough on its own of course, though it wasn’t all she did. On the other side of the year she headlined Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest at Times Square. And there, she delivered an emotional speech to the audience.

3. Beyoncé

Beyoncé kept busy throughout 2020. She released a new visual album – Black is King – which instantly garnered a lot of praise. But she also took a lesson from the events of that year. She told Vogue magazine in October, “I truly cherish this time with my family, and my new goal is to slow down and shed stressful things from my life.”

2. Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian got absolutely roasted on social media in 2020. Why? Well, she made the incredibly ill-advised move of throwing a massive birthday party on a private island when most of the world was in lockdown. Her obliviousness did what little else that year had done and united Twitter in mockery.

1. Meghan Markle

When Meghan Markle left the royal family with Prince Harry at the beginning of 2020, she might have expected it to be the biggest news story of the year. She was wrong of course, but her name was still rarely out of the headlines. The couple are reportedly living in Santa Barbara now and happier than they were previously.
