When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson spent Christmas 2018 with his mom, little did she know that she’d end up in tears. And the superstar wrestler-turned-actor posted an Instagram movie to let everyone know how he had shocked his mother. His 126 million followers on the site learned all about what happens when The Rock plays Santa Claus.
Johnson had a childhood full of travel, as he’d move around with his dad Rocky Johnson, himself a pro wrestler. At one point, he even lived in New Zealand with mom Ata’s family. Johnson shared with his Instagram followers what it had been like, writing, “All our lives growing up we lived in little apartments all across the country.”
Sadly, The Rock’s parents split up in 2004. But Johnson has long prided himself on ensuring that his parents have everything they could ever need. And on Christmas 2018, he had something special for his mom. She was celebrating the holiday with Johnson and then-girlfriend Lauren Hashian and their two kids – toddler Jasmine and infant Tiana – when Johnson handed her a card under the Christmas tree.
Johnson had disguised the card as a “Willy Wonka Golden Ticket,” so it wasn’t clear at first exactly what it was. But when his mom opened up the card, the contents were surprising enough that she broke down into tears. When he saw that, The Rock dove in for a mom-son hug that showed the love the pair share.
Johnson’s caption on his Instagram post explained what the emotion had been all about. He wrote, “This one felt good… Bought my mom a new home for Christmas.” Yes, he’d gifted his mom her pick of residence. The wrestler added, “I always say, if you got a good mama, then you gotta pretty good shot at becoming a decent human being. And somehow, somewhere along the line I became one lucky SOB to be able to make stuff like this happen.”
