It’s fair to say that Tom Hanks is no stranger to winning awards. After all, the Hollywood icon has not only picked up two consecutive Oscars, but he’s also received a Kennedy Center Honor and a Presidential Medal of Freedom during his four-decade-long career. Those are just a few of the star’s many accolades, too. But Hanks certainly doesn’t seem to be blasé about accepting awards if his appearance at the 2020 Golden Globes was anything to go by. It was there, you see, that the actor delivered his most emotional acceptance speech to date – and his words left some in the assembled audience fighting to hold back the tears.

Yet, of course, Hanks is no stranger to collecting gongs at the Golden Globes. He won his first accolade at the ceremony in 1989 for his comedic performance in Big, for instance, while the star’s more dramatic mid-1990s turns in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump were similarly rewarded. And in 2001 Hanks scooped his fourth Best Actor award for his turn in Cast Away.
