Your Favorite Child Stars From 2000s Disney Channel Shows, Then And Now

The Disney Channel shows of the 2000s are still well remembered today, partly because they were all great and partly because most of them feature at least one future megastar. But even if your favorite teen idols didn’t go on to vast amounts of fame and fortune, you might be surprised to learn just how well they’re doing now…

20. Zolee Griggs (Cory in the House)

Zolee Griggs played spoiled youngster Tanisha on Cory in the House, having embarked on an acting career when she was just four. Now, however, she’s a stylish 18-year-old woman with a popular fashion blog, an equally popular YouTube channel and even her very own app.

19. Juliette Goglia (That’s So Raven)

Juliette Goglia was the irritating girl-next-door Sierra on That’s So Raven, and although she only popped up in two episodes, she still made quite an impression. And now that’s she’s all grown up, Goglia is still bagging recurring acting roles; plus, she’s been busy studying at the University of Southern California.

18. Brenda Song (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody)

Brenda Song was already a successful child actress when she bagged a big role playing London Tipton in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. The show was a huge success, and so it’s not surprising that Song went on to even bigger things, including 2010 blockbuster The Social Network and ABC’s Scandal.

17. Ricky Ullman (Phil of the Future)

Diehard fans of Phil of the Future may know that “Ricky” was actually just the stage name of young Raviv Ullman. And, indeed, in 2006 the Disney Channel star began using his original name again. It turns out that Ullman is a pretty multitalented guy, too: he drums, plays the trombone, podcasts, Instagrams, and still finds time to act a fair bit as well.

16. Raven-Symone (That’s So Raven)

Raven-Symone was such a talented teen actor that the Disney channel even gave her her very own show! That show was That’s So Raven, and it was huge among kids. So huge, in fact, that it’s the one thing Raven-Symone is still best remembered for, even after him breaking into both the film and music industries.

15. Moses Arias (Hannah Montana)

Moses Arias played Rico in Hannah Montana, and it turned out that Miley Cyrus wasn’t the only one on that show who would undergo a surprising transformation. Why? 14. Madison Pettis (Cory in the House)

Cory in the House star Madison Pettis played Sophie Martinez, the President’s daughter who was dubbed “America’s Angel.” And all these years later, Pettis still looks pretty angelic. Technically she’s also still a Disney Channel star, too, as she now does voice work for The Lion Guard.

13. Orlando Brown (That’s So Raven)

It’s a well-known fact that many child stars crash and burn, and sadly it seems that Orlando Brown was one of them. After achieving success playing Eddie on That’s So Raven, he was arrested in 2016 for a string of crimes including domestic battery and possession of drugs.

12. Aly Michalka (Phil of the Future)

In 2004 Aly Michalka was cast as Keely in Phil of the Future. And while the sitcom only lasted two years, the actress certainly didn’t stop there. She went on to appear in a whole host of shows, including Two and a Half Men and iZombie, and she also formed a successful band with her sister.

11. Bobb’e J. Thompson (That’s So Raven)

Back in the early ’00s Bobb’e J. Thompson was Stanley, the annoying cheese sandwich-loving kid from That’s So Raven. These days, it certainly looks like Thompson has grown into adulthood very well indeed. Who would have thought cheese sandwiches could do that to a person?

10. Steven Anthony Lawrence (Even Stevens)

Not everyone recognizes the name Steven Anthony Lawrence, but they do recognize his face: he was Even Stevens’s Beans. And while his looks have matured a lot since then, it seems that Lawrence is still pretty recognizable: when he was temporarily employed as Santa’s Helper at a mall, he was inundated with photo requests.

9. Alyson Stoner (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody)

When Alyson Stoner played Max on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, there was a running joke that audiences would think she was a boy. But there’s certainly no chance of that these days! And as well as growing into a beautiful young woman, Stoner has been keeping herself very busy: she’s now a singer, choreographer, model and dancer in addition to being an actress.

8. Jake T. Austin (Wizards of Waverly Place)

Jake T. Austin won many a pre-teen girl’s heart when he played Max on Wizards of Waverly Place, and his good looks haven’t remotely gone away. Austin still acts, too, and he’s also appeared on Dancing with the Stars; plus, he’s now followed by over a million fans on Instagram.

7. Jason Dolley (Cory in the House)

Jason Dolley had already been in multiple movies and shows before he was cast as Newt in Cory in the House in 2007, and so it’s not surprising that he continued to act after the show was over. He wasn’t too busy to hit the books, though, and graduated from college – with honors – in 2016.

6. Emily Osment (Hannah Montana)

Emily Osment is the sister of ’90s child star Haley Joel Osment, and her role as Lilly Truscott in Hannah Montana helped her gain some of the same fame her brother enjoyed. Plus, her Disney Channel work not only established her as an actress, but it also set her up as a singer.

5. Maiara Walsh (Cory in the House)

Maiara Walsh played Meena Paroom on Cory in the House and then jumped straight from there to the much more adult TV show that is Desperate Housewives. Walsh is now 28 years old, and she does an impressive amount of philanthropy work in addition to acting.

4. Shia LaBeouf (Even Stevens)

Shia LaBeouf was everyone’s favorite kid when he was playing Louis Stevens on Even Stevens. And flash forward a few years and he was everyone’s favorite young actor, too. But then it all went a little wrong for the former child star. Indeed, a spate of erratic, illegal behaviour saw everyone laughing at LaBeouf for all the wrong reasons.

3. Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire)

Hilary Duff was the ultimate female teen idol during her Disney Channel time as Lizzie McGuire. But today, despite the fact that she’s still acting and singing, the media seem more interested in her romantic entanglements than anything else – which is a shame, really, because she grew into one very talented adult.

2. Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place)

Selena Gomez is a big deal in the celebrity world now, but her breakthrough came when she was cast as Alex Russo in the show Wizards of Waverly Place. This piece of hard-earned luck meant she and her mother could move to Hollywood – and the rest is history.

1. Miley Cyrus

Perhaps no child star has changed as drastically since the noughties as Miley Cyrus. She famously cast off the shadow of Hannah Montana entirely by indulging in wild antics both on and off the stage – but it has made her into a celebrity who is rarely out of the headlines.
