Celebrities seemingly live completely different lives to the rest of us mere mortals; lives filled with fortune, fame and excitement. But celebs need love, too, and they’re just as likely as anyone to fall for the most unlikely of people. Sometimes, as they say, opposites attract – although other times opposites also fall out, with one taking half the cash in the divorce. Here, then, are 20 of the strangest celebrity couples of recent years, some of whom are even, against all odds, still together.
21. Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett
Hollywood’s so-called “beauty and the beast,” Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett, tied the knot in June 1993. Lovett sang “Stand By Your Man” at the nuptials, but the improbable pair had split by March 1995.

20. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones’ relationship may have had its ups and downs, but the pair will nevertheless be celebrating their 15-year wedding anniversary in 2015. And despite people initially wondering what Zeta-Jones saw in the much older man, they’ve made their odd Hollywood marriage work better than most.

18. Beth Ostrosky and Howard Stern
Shock jock Howard Stern has, well, a face for radio. Somehow, though, he managed to wed former model Beth Ostrosky – a woman 18 years his junior. And, after seven years of marriage, they seem to still be going strong.
16. Claudia Schiffer and David Copperfield
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer was certainly considered out of David Copperfield’s league, but the pair were together between 1993 and 1999, and she even took part in some of his magic tricks. Alas, the magic between the pair didn’t last.

15. Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton
Angelina Jolie may now be happily in wedlock with Brad Pitt, but it was her two-year marriage to the much older Billy Bob Thornton that brought out her weird side. Famously, the two used to sport vials of each other’s blood as necklace pieces.

13. Melania Knauss and Donald Trump
Donald Trump may have been in hot water in 2015 after making what have been perceived to be racist comments, but his much younger and more attractive wife Melania Knauss has been on hand to calm the waters. Knauss’ engagement ring alone is valued at $3 million – a clue, perhaps, to what she sees in the mogul.
11. January Jones and Josh Groban
Beautiful Mad Men actress January Jones dated the adorably geeky Josh Groban for about three years, giving hope to nerdy-looking guys everywhere. Sadly, though, in June 2006 the pair made it known that they were “taking a break” – a state of affairs that led to a permanent split.

10. Katy Perry and Russell Brand
The “I Kissed a Girl” singer and the scarecrow-like comedian got married in 2010, opting for a Hindu ceremony in India despite neither actually being Hindu. Alas, at the tail end of 2011 Brand informed Perry by SMS that he was beginning divorce proceedings – proving once and for all that it’s a bad idea for two alpha personalities to get married.

9. Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman
Singer Christina Aguilera and executive Jordan Bratman met in 2002, married in 2005, had a son in 2008 and got divorced in 2010. Aguilera claimed that they simply grew apart as people.
8. Mila Kunis and Macaulay Culkin
Macaulay Culkin was an adorable child star in the Nineties, but the years haven’t been that kind to him – and the Pizza Underground star’s alleged drug use may not have helped, either. Nevertheless, the gorgeous Mila Kunis dated him for eight years before the couple finally called it quits in 2011.

7. Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden
For many people, Benji Madden – a musician covered in tattoos – isn’t the ideal match for superstar Cameron Diaz. Even so, they married in January 2015 after a mere two and a half-week engagement and are still going strong… so far.
6. Rosario Dawson and Danny Boyle
Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle began dating Rosario Dawson – 23 years younger than him – after casting her in his 2013 movie Trance. But as with many relationships between middle-aged directors and attractive young actresses, it didn’t last, petering out at around the year point.

5. Emilia Clarke and Seth MacFarlane
Peter Griffin and Daenerys Targaryen? Together? Let’s just say that Seth MacFarlane and Emilia Clarke made a rather unlikely pairing. And, unsurprisingly, they split only six months after meeting in September 2012, reportedly due to a “location challenge.”

4. Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock
Erstwhile Baywatch star Pamela Anderson married rapper Kid Rock on a luxury yacht in 2006. Anderson dubbed the event the “most romantic wedding of all time,” but the marriage still only lasted a mere four months.

3. Christina Hendricks and Geoffrey Arend
Christina Hendricks may have once been given the honor of “best-looking woman in America,” but she didn’t marry a typical Hollywood hunk. Instead, she fell hard and fast for the very normal-looking Geoffrey Arend, and the pair were wed in 2009.
2. Evan Rachel Wood and Marilyn Manson
A 19-year-old actress and a 36-year-old goth rocker? There’s no way that could possibly go wrong. Predictably, Evan Rachel Wood and Marilyn Manson’s on-off, three and a half-year relationship attracted lots of negative press attention – possibly a contributing factor to the pair’s split in 2010.

1. Elisabetta Gregoraci and Flavio Briatore
Flavio Briatore and Elisabetta Gregoraci could totally pass as father and daughter; after all, there’s a 30-year age gap between them. Still, the multimillionaire former Formula 1 manager and stunning Wonderbra model have been married since 2008.
