Celebrity marriages are notoriously short-lived. Perhaps it’s the intense media scrutiny, the immense pressure of living in the spotlight or the hectic international schedules that see couples separated for months at a time. Whatever the cause, though, it seems to be almost inevitable that a marriage between two famous people will end in divorce sooner or later.

And for these 20 celebrity couplings, it was definitely sooner rather than later. Here are 20 newlyweds who didn’t exactly hold to “till death do us part…”

20. Jeremy Renner and Sonni Pacheco – ten months

Jeremy Renner had a daughter with Canadian model Sonni Pacheco in March 2013, and the couple wed the year after. But the 28 Weeks Later actor divorced his new wife just ten months after she walked up the aisle. And the split wasn’t pretty, either, with lots of squabbling and bitterness on both sides.

19. Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd – nine months

Jennifer Lopez has been married three times, but her marriage to back-up dancer Cris Judd was the shortest of all, lasting just nine months. 18. Drew Barrymore and Tom Green – five months

Sadly, Drew Barrymore is a repeat offender when it comes to short-lived marriages; before she wed comedian Tom Green, she was briefly married to bartender Jeremy Thomas for all of two months. Her high-profile marriage to Green didn’t last much longer, with the pair calling time on their marriage after just five months. That union did, however, at least bring us the movie Freddy Got Fingered – so, er, yay?

16. Charlie Sheen and Donna Peele – five months

Charlie Sheen said “I do” to first wife Donna Peele on his 30th birthday back in 1995. Clearly, however, she was not and did not.

15. Colin Farrell and Amelia Warner – four months

When Colin Farrell took Amelia Warner as his wife, he went all out and even got her name tattooed around his ring finger. That turned out to be a big mistake, though, as the pair were divorced just four months later. And Farrell gave the age-old excuse for the separation: in 2001 the actor told People magazine that they were simply “too young” to make it work.

14. Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock – four months

In 2006, Pamela Anderson donned a skimpy white bikini and stepped on to a yacht to wed Kid Rock. It wasn’t a very solemn start to a marriage, and 114 days later it was all over. Allegedly, the rock singer was so unhappy that his new bride had agreed to appear in the movie Borat and considered it grounds for divorce. Yikes.

13. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Esposito – four months

A young Bradley Cooper married Blue Bloods actress Jennifer Esposito in December 2006, but by May 2007 she had filed for divorce. And Cooper was pretty dismissive of his four-month marriage in a radio interview with Howard Stern in 2011 – he said that “it was just something that happened.”

12. Renée Zellweger and Kenny Chesney – four months

Actress Renée Zellweger wed country crooner Kenny Chesney in 2005, but the pair got an annulment just four months later. Legally, the new bride cited “fraud” as her rationale, but she later issued a press statement claiming that her use of that word was “not a reflection of Kenny’s character.”

11. Nicky Hilton and Todd Meister – three months

Perhaps no wedding performed at 2:30 a.m. in a Las Vegas chapel has ever turned out well, and the early morning union of Nicky Hilton and her childhood friend Todd Meister in 2004 was no exception. The heiress and her new hubby annulled their marriage just three months later and shocked no-one when they admitted that they had wed “on a whim.”

10. Lisa Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage – three months

Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley thought it was a grand idea to get hitched just ten days after Cage popped the question. And, unsurprisingly, the rushed nuptials didn’t exactly make a good foundation for a long-term relationship. In fact, the union lasted a whole 108 days, and Presley later issued a statement in which she admitted that it was “a big mistake”.

9. Chris Kattan and Sunshine Tutt – two months

8. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries – two months

Before the highly publicized Kim Kardashian-Kanye West marriage, there was the highly publicized Kim Kardashian-Kris Humphries one. In fact, they raked in $17.9 million alone simply from broadcasting and image rights. Nice work for those two months, right?

And Lozada filed for divorce three days later, putting an end to a turbulent marriage that had only lasted five weeks.

5. Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds – two weeks

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds’ 2008 tropical wedding in Bora Bora wasn’t legally recognized in the U.S., but it was a spiritual binding… for a couple of weeks, anyway. Yup, the relationship was in tatters just two weeks in, before it had even reached the honeymoon phase.

3. Cher and Gregg Allman – nine days

Cher certainly didn’t waste any time back in 1975. Indeed, just a few days after her divorce came through from Sonny Bono, the singer walked back up the aisle once more, this time to wed musician Gregg Allman in Vegas. And this marriage was short too, even by Vegas standards – it lasted just nine days! The musical couple did, however, manage to reconcile long enough to have a child together.

Although technically the marriage between NBA star Dennis Rodman and actress Carmen Electra lasted six months, it actually took only six days for Rodman to file for annulment. The basket player claimed that he was drunk when he said “I do,” and it’s safe to say that it was all downhill from there.

1. Britney Spears and Jason Alexander – 55 hours

In 2004 pop princess Britney Spears wed her childhood pal Jason Alexander in what turned out to be possibly the most notorious – and possibly the shortest – celebrity marriage of all time.
