It’s been more than 25 years since actor Lisa Bonet and musician Lenny Kravitz officially ended their marriage. But the couple may be two of the friendliest exes in Hollywood. And to apparently show that there’s no bad blood, Bonet’s new husband, Jason Momoa, presented the rocker with a memorable gift.

Bonet came into the world in November 1967, in the Californian city of San Francisco. She became interested in acting from a young age, too, and would go on to study at Hollywood’s Celluloid Actor’s Studio. And as a child, the future star would both compete in beauty contests and made appearances on television.

Then Bonet landed her big break when she was cast on The Cosby Show during her teenage years. The sitcom starred Bill Cosby and followed a family living in Brooklyn, New York. The thespian portrayed Denise Huxtable, the rebellious youngster of the clan.

The Cosby Show premiered in 1984 and aired for eight seasons before finally coming to an end in 1992. The show was a smash, too, and turned its cast members – including Bonet – into household names. This was arguably Bonet’s height of stardom.

Indeed, TV Guide has reported that The Cosby Show “was TV’s biggest hit in the 1980s and almost single-handedly revived the sitcom genre and NBC’s ratings fortunes.” The magazine also named Cosby’s character, Cliff Huxtable, as the all-time “Greatest Television Dad.” And the series additionally led to a spin-off.

A Different World followed the escapades of Bonet’s character, Denise, as she started college. You see, Bonet departed The Cosby Show in order to star in its sister series, which premiered in 1987. But after just one season that had her in the lead role, she decided to leave.

Then, on November 16, 1987, Bonet turned 20 – and she eloped that day with Lenny Kravitz in Las Vegas. And later, the actress admitted that it hadn’t taken long for her to fall for the musician. “It was interesting when we were first finding out about each other, that our backgrounds were so similar,” she told Essence magazine.

Bonet continued, “When I first told [Kravitz] my mom was Jewish, and he said, ‘So’s my dad,’ I thought that was both unusual and enchanting. I felt like, ‘Okay, here’s someone who really knows how it is.’ And I think I trusted him a little more with my feelings and let him inside a little more than I ordinarily would have.”

Kravitz was born on May 26, 1964, to The Jeffersons actor Roxie Roker and Sy Kravitz, who worked in television. Today, he is a successful rock star who has won Best Male Rock Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards four years in a row. But the musician was yet to release his first album when he married Bonet.

At the same time, Bonet was shedding her family-friendly image. The star appeared in R-rated movie Angel Heart with Mickey Rourke; she also posed topless for Interview magazine. Then the actor revealed that she was expecting her first child with Kravitz.

After her pregnancy announcement, Bonet left A Different World. She then welcomed her daughter, Zoë Isabella Kravitz, in December 1988. Motherhood didn’t slow her down too considerably, either, as the actor ultimately returned to The Cosby Show – although she was axed from the series in 1991.

While Denise Huxtable remains Bonet’s biggest role to date, she has continued to act in the years since her departure from the sitcom. The actress has starred in movies including Biker Boyz, High Fidelity and Enemy of the State. More recently, she has appeared in the television shows Girls and Ray Donovan, for example.

But it’s not just Bonet’s career that has kept her in the spotlight. Indeed, the star also hits headlines for her high-profile relationships. After separating from Kravitz in 1991 and divorcing him two years later, the actor moved on with another major celebrity: Jason Momoa.

Momoa was born in 1979 on Hawaii, but he grew up in the Iowa town of Norwalk. And like Bonet, he, too, started his career at a young age. Discovered by fashion designer Takeo Kikuchi, he was later named 1999’s Model of the Year for Hawaii. After that, he made his acting debut.

From 1999 to 2001, Momoa starred in Baywatch Hawaii. He then went on to have further television success with roles in North Shore and Stargate: Atlantis. But it was in 2011 that Momoa shot to fame – thanks to two major parts that certainly put him on the radar.

That year, Momoa portrayed the titular character in Conan the Barbarian, a remake of the classic ’80s Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. He then began making waves in the hit drama series Game of Thrones. And in order to win the role of Khal Drogo, the actor did a traditional Maori dance, known as a haka, during his audition.

Yet while Momoa featured in just one season of the show before his character was killed off, that alone was enough to turn him into a bona fide star. He then went on to appear in the movies Sugar Mountain and Road to Paloma – the latter of which he also wrote, directed and produced.

More recently, Momoa has found himself in another huge role after being cast as Aquaman. He first played the superhero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and then reprised the role in Justice League. And in 2018, he got his own standalone movie with Aquaman.

Back in 2005, however, Momoa and Bonet had met at a club in Los Angeles; they would later embark on a relationship. Meanwhile Bonet’s eldest child, Zoë, has followed her parents into the spotlight. Indeed, she appears to have inherited both her father’s musical talent and her mom’s dramatic skills. Zoë is the singer of the band Lolawolf, which was named in honor of her brother and sister. And she has also found acting success with roles in Big Little Lies, Mad Max: Fury Road and the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

And Zoë acquired a stepfather in October 2017 when Bonet and Momoa married – much to the surprise of those who believed that the couple had in fact tied the knot ten years previously. But while Kravitz and Bonet may now have a very modern family, they have remained extremely close while raising their daughter.

In fact, Bonet told Essence magazine in March 2018 that she and her ex-husband still have a great relationship. “It’s fantastic,” she said. The actor added of her extended brood, “It’s full-on family love.”

Zoë is also close to her stepfather, who is less than ten years her senior. And the feeling is clearly mutual, as Momoa told People magazine in December 2018 that his stepdaughter is “a beautiful human being.” She has given Momoa the nickname “papa bear,” and they even have matching tattoos. If you’re wondering, they say “Etre toujours ivre,” meaning “Always be drunk” in French.

When Zoë was 11 years old, however, she moved from Los Angeles to Miami to be with her father. “My mom told me that it was important for me to spend time with him,” she revealed to Ocean Drive magazine in 2015. “I’m sure it was hard, but she took it like a champ.”

Zoë also told the publication that her parents “remain tight and loving.” She explained, too, that their close-knit relationship has kept the family happy. “It makes things so easy that my parents are still very close, they have so much love for each other,” she shared.

In fact, Zoë admitted that divorce doesn’t have to be tough on a child – as her own experience shows. “As long as everyone can be in the same room together, and have love for each other, it’s totally healthy,” she told the magazine. And it’s not just Bonet and Kravitz who get along well.

You see, Zoë disclosed that Kravitz and Momoa also have a strong relationship. “My dad and my stepdad get along really well, and my dad loves and is close with my brother and sister,” she confessed. “It’s really beautiful,” she said, echoing her mother’s sentiments.

Indeed, Momoa showed the extent of how close he is to his wife’s ex-husband in December 2018. The actor presented the rock star with a special gift, just in time for Christmas. And the thoughtful nature of the offering proved that Momoa and Kravitz truly are friends as well as family.

That month, Momoa hosted Saturday Night Live, with Kravitz also coming to the New York set to see his performance. Afterwards, the actor shared a snapshot to Instagram of himself and the Grammy winner posing together while displaying a pair of skull-shaped rings.

In fact, the actor revealed that he had had the rings custom-made for himself and Kravitz after discovering the artist online. “I’m a huge fan of the artists I meet on Instagram,” Momoa wrote on the social media app. The star then added that he loves “spreading the aloha.”

Momoa continued, “I got [Kravitz] a present made by Leroys Wooden Tattoos… Amazing bone skull ring.” He also advised his fans to take a look at the artist’s carving skills. And the actor added in appreciation, “Mahalo, Lenny, for coming to support me on SNL.”

In addition, Momoa posted a close-up snapshot of the jewelry. And he told Entertainment Tonight that he came up with the idea of getting Kravitz his own custom-made ring when he saw that the rock star admired them. “My friend, he made this bone ring. Since I wanted to get one, and he liked it, I wanted him to have one,” the star said.

Furthermore, Momoa explained that their matching rings – thought to cost around $350 apiece – represent their family ties. “Yeah, looking out for each other for sure,” he added. But while it may have been a small gesture for Momoa, commenters had a lot to say about it.

Momoa and Kravitz received praise on Instagram for forging a healthy, adult relationship for the sake of their family. “This is wonderful to see,” one user shared. “Maturity and strength.” Seemingly Momoa’s kind deed had positive ripple effects far and wide.

Another person agreed that others in such a position should follow Momoa and Kravitz’s good example. “The relationship you two have is not only admirable but absolutely amazing,” the commenter enthused. “[You are] role models for all blended families.”

Meanwhile, some people pointed out that it’s refreshing to see Momoa and Kravitz behaving this way for the sake of their children. “This is how rational adults act. What a concept! Bless all of them for being reasonable human beings!” Kellie Herndon O’Steen commented to HuffPost. Verna Chargualaf Mendiola agreed, “The kids benefit when the adults get along. I love this!”

And the family’s successes are only continuing, as Zoë prepares for the second season of her Emmy Award-winning television series Big Little Lies. At the same time, Momoa is celebrating the success of Aquaman. Just a few weeks following its release, the blockbuster had earned $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Meanwhile, Kravitz has released the 2018 album Raise Vibration and has been touring to promote the record. In addition to his concerts, the rock star is already working on new music. And he, too, has had success in the world of acting, with roles in The Hunger Games saga and the television show Star.

But although Kravitz’s relationships with Bonet and Momoa may appear almost too perfect to be believable, he has nevertheless insisted that the trio really are as close as they seem. In 2013 the musician featured on Oprah’s Masterclass, where he would describe his ex-wife as his “best friend.”

Kravitz added that their blended family couldn’t be happier. “When we’re all together now – [Bonet’s] man, her kids, Zoë, me… We’re all together, and we’re one big happy family” he said. “It’s beautiful, and it just shows you what can be done.” It appears, then, that they are all doing themselves proud.
