Actors Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx conducted an extremely quiet and private relationship between 2015 and 2018. Then, suddenly, the superstar couple broke up. And – in line with the rest of their behind-closed-doors romance – neither of the two talked in public about what happened between them. But gradually people who know the sordid details have started speaking to the media – and now we finally know why Holmes and Foxx went their separate ways.
Mind you, it’s not surprising that Holmes might want to enjoy a romance out of the limelight. After all, before the Dawson’s Creek star embarked on a life with Foxx, she was married to none other than Tom Cruise. And that relationship was very much not kept private. In fact, Cruise famously proclaimed his love for then-girlfriend Holmes in a May 2005 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show – a moment that went down in television history.
The Holmes-Cruise romance moved fast, too, and in June 2005 she converted to Scientology for the actor. Then, mere days after that revelation came to light, the media reported that Cruise had popped the question to Holmes during dinner at the Eiffel Tower – and that she had agreed to be his wife. So, even at these early stages, the papers were going all-out to cover the couple’s dating life.
There was plenty to write about, too. In October 2005, for instance, Holmes and Cruise announced that they were having a baby. This caused a whole new whirlwind of interest, of course. The little girl was born the following April and given the name Suri. She is Holmes’ only child, though Cruise has two adopted children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
In November 2006 Holmes and Cruise married in a star-studded and luxurious ceremony. So even though both parties remained working actors, it was their personal lives that continued to provide fodder to fill column inches. And the fact that Cruise and Holmes were Scientologists – and that Cruise is an outspoken one at that – caused major controversy in the media and beyond.
After all, some countries consider the Church of Scientology to be an outright cult. And, according to reports, Cruise had displayed cult-like behavior before marrying Holmes. The star has apparently prevented journalists from asking about the faith, for instance, and has supposedly brought ministers onto his movie sets. Elsewhere, there are also frequent reports of alleged abuse from the church toward its members.
But what about Holmes and Foxx? Well, during her marriage to Cruise, Holmes at least knew Foxx as an acquaintance. Cruise and Foxx were former co-stars – having appeared alongside one another in the critically acclaimed thriller Collateral in 2004. And the two, along with Holmes, sat together at a football game in 2006.
This was long before any rumors of a romance emerged, of course. At the time, in fact, it appeared as though everything was fine in the Cruise-Holmes camp. In 2010, for example, Holmes told Marie Claire magazine, “[Cruise is] as big at home as he is on the movie screen. He’s so passionate about everything, whatever he’s doing. When he’s being a dad, he’s right there; he’s giving it his all. It’s inspiring, and it’s fun. It’s an amazing life, but we always remind ourselves of how incredibly lucky we are.”
Then in May 2012 Cruise gave an interview to Playboy magazine in which he talked about Holmes and Scientology. He said, “I have respect for what other people believe. What I believe in my own life is that it’s a search for how I can do things better, whether it’s being a better man or a better father or finding ways for myself to improve. Individuals have to decide what is true and real for them.”
Of his wife, Cruise declared, “She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you’d see it. Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity. She’s funny and charming, and when she walks into the room, I just feel better… I’m just happy, and I have been since the moment I met her.”
But the apparent happiness didn’t last for much longer. The shock announcement that Holmes was divorcing Cruise came in June 2012. It appears as if the star had kept her intentions under wraps as much as she could. According to the Los Angeles Times, Holmes had even employed a burner phone to co-ordinate matters with her legal team.
The actor’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe told People, “This is a personal and private matter for [Holmes] and her family. [Her] primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.” Yet young Suri would become the center point of speculation as to what exactly had happened in the headline-grabbing marriage.
You see, a mere 11 days after Holmes filed for divorce, she was given primary custody of Suri – with Cruise only having visitation rights. Rumors then spread throughout the media that Holmes’ main motivation for the split was to stop her then-six-year-old daughter from becoming indoctrinated into Scientology. However, the church denied this.
Shortly afterward, reports claimed that Holmes abandoned Scientology completely and returned to her original faith of Catholicism. The revelations claimed that the star registered at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York – an institution noted for its progressiveness and acceptance of LGBTQ+ people. So it looked like Holmes was striving to make big changes in her life.
And more revelations came out about Suri the following year. In a 2013 deposition during Cruise’s legal dispute with Bauer Media Group, Cruise let some secrets slip. He said that although “there is no need to protect [his] daughter from [his] religion,” Holmes’ fear for the young girl joining Scientology was “one of the assertions” she’d made during the couple’s divorce proceedings. And Cruise also confessed that Suri is no longer a member of the Church of Scientology.
Unfortunately, though, it’s been reported that people who leave Scientology can be declared “suppressive persons” – and cut off from followers of the religion and even their families. But Cruise is still very much a Scientologist. In this case, though, it appears as if Cruise remains a part of Suri’s life. In fact, the actor firmly denied rumors in 2013 that he had “abandoned” his child – claiming that only filming commitments kept him from seeing her.
Which brings us back to Holmes and Foxx. It wasn’t long after the Holmes-Cruise divorce, after all, that people spotted Holmes out and about with the Oscar-winning star of Ray. Rumors soon spread about the couple, and in October 2013 the National Enquirer even published an unsubstantiated report that Holmes feared Cruise would get wind of the relationship and retaliate.
Yet by 2015 all anyone had seen of the Holmes-Foxx relationship were some blurry photos taken from a distance. Then, in March of that year, People magazine reported that it had spoken to a source “with knowledge of the situation.” And the source alleged that yes, there was indeed something going on between the two actors.
People reported that the source said, “This is not some intense romance. Jamie and Katie are friends and have been for a long time. They are two adults who are attractive and single, and so apparently conclusions will be drawn. But contrary to those conclusions, they’re not about to run off and make some serious commitment.”
In fact, Holmes and Foxx kept their relationship so quiet that for a while they weren’t even spotted together. Then in March 2016 someone noticed that both of the stars had started sporting rings on their fingers. This naturally sent the rumor mill into overdrive. Foxx’s representative even had to tell People that no marriage or engagement had taken place.
Yet another curious rumor began circulating as the Holmes-Foxx relationship continued into 2017. Radar Online reported that, after their divorce, Holmes and Cruise had agreed that she couldn’t be seen courting another person until five years after their split. The publication quoted a source as saying, “[Holmes] wanted out of the marriage so badly, she agreed to the terms.”
Incredibly, it took until January 2018 for photographs of Holmes and Foxx together at an event to emerge. The stars showed up as a couple for the Pre-Grammys Gala, and they looked perfectly happy. And after that the pair were only occasionally seen in public on dates or leaving restaurants. Still, dark clouds were on the horizon.
In February 2019, for instance, reports emerged that Foxx had announced his singledom while partying at an Oscars event. And according to celebrity gossipers, the star not only told the crowd that he wasn’t romantically attached, but he had also been seen dancing with several other women. So, was it all over?
Well, despite the reports of Foxx’s claims about his splitting from Holmes, it appeared that the two were still an item. And in fact, their relationship only appeared to be getting stronger as the year went on. Holmes was seen hanging out with Foxx’s daughter Corinne, for instance, and in May the two actors went to the Met Gala as an item.
And even though Foxx and Holmes didn’t walk the red carpet together, they were each other’s dates nonetheless. Later that month, after all, Corrine spoke to People magazine about the couple and their appearance at the Met Gala. She said, “They are so great, and [Holmes] is always so chic. They were wonderful.”
Then suddenly, and shockingly, it was all over. In August 2019 the E! News website reported that, according to a source, the couple had broken up in May. Perhaps their relationship hadn’t been so great at the Met Gala after all. Just a few days before the news hit, in fact, Foxx had been spotted holding hands with singer Sela Vave.
People then got speaking to an apparent insider, and the magazine reported that person as saying, “It ran its course. This industry is very tough on relationships. [Foxx] thinks [Holmes] is an incredible human being. They had a very, very deep connection. They brought each other a lot of joy and laughter.”
From there on, speculation ran rampant as to what exactly had caused the couple to break up. But two different people reportedly spoke to the website Page Six in August 2019 – and both told different stories. The basic tale revolved around a meet-up that Holmes and Foxx were apparently supposed to have had for Memorial Day weekend in Montauk.
One alleged source told Page Six, “[Holmes] called two hours before [Foxx] was supposed to get on a plane from Los Angeles to New York City and canceled. He was really upset.” But the other said, “[Holmes] was supposed to go to Montauk to join [Foxx], but he did something s***ty at the last minute, and that was that. He canceled on his own and never got on the plane.”
Yet another alleged insider spoke to Us Weekly that month, and they also claimed that Foxx had been the problem. The source reportedly said, “It has been many years of him stepping out with other women. He’s disrespectful, and their lives were different. His partying ways don’t fit with hers as she’s focused on raising her daughter and working.”
The media also pointed plenty of attention at Vave – the woman Foxx had previously been seen with. However, the Baby Driver actor announced on Instagram during August that Vave was not his girlfriend and that he had no romantic interest in her. Instead, the star said, he was just mentoring her as a young music artist.
Foxx clarified on his Instagram Live that he would often let people stay at his house if he was helping them work on their careers and that Vave was no different. The actor then touched upon the photos which featured him and her holding hands. He said, “I’m escorting her to my car, to put her in the car – my artist, who hangs out with my kids and is as young as my daughter.”
Foxx went on to defend Vave, saying “I told her it’s going to be this way. It’s a double standard when it comes to women. I spoke to that girl’s mom, and she put her trust in me. We want to make sure she has the opportunity to show you the talent we saw. All of the unnecessary hate for the woman, just because the guys are coming here and they’re working hard, but when a girl does it, she has an ulterior motive.”
Vave herself popped up in the comments of Foxx’s Instagram Live video and shut down the people who had been speculating about the relationship. She said, “For the people who care… here is the true story… for everyone else you can keep talking and calling me a w***e, slut, homewrecker, thot, gold digger, that I should die, and whatever else you want.”
Elsewhere, though, a rumor came out in September that Tom Cruise wanted to try and win the newly single Holmes back. According to NW magazine and a source who supposedly spoke to the publication, “Word is that the second [Foxx] was out of the picture, [Cruise] had people make contact with [Holmes] and humbly request a meeting.”
The alleged source apparently added that “[Cruise] wants Suri back in his life, but he’s also optimistic things could turn romantic again with [Holmes].” At the time, Cruise had reportedly not seen his daughter in a long while. The website Gossip Cop debunked the relationship rumor, though. According to the publication’s writers, a rep for Holmes told them that nothing had happened between the actress and her ex-husband.
But when 2020 rolled around, tabloid newspapers and gossip websites still weren’t done with the couple. In January, for instance, OK! Magazine published a report from another apparent “insider.” And this source claimed that Holmes had spent her time with Foxx taking advantage of his fame.
According to the supposed source, Holmes leveraged the media attention on her and Foxx for her own ends. The “insider” claimed that Foxx had introduced his girlfriend to “big producers and power players.” This, the person claimed, was “a massive turn-on [for] her and something she’s taken full advantage of.”
But because of the secrecy Holmes and Foxx maintained, chances are that it will be a long while before the full story comes out – if indeed it ever does. Neither of them appears particularly the worse for wear due to their split, though. And Holmes has said her attention is now on just being a good mom to Suri.
In 2016, while Holmes was still dating Foxx, she told Modern Luxury magazine, “I think the most important thing in my life is giving my child the childhood I want her to have. That comes first.” So even though breaking up from Foxx marked a change in her life, Holmes still has plenty to look forward to.
Holmes and Foxx are not the only celebrities to come under press scrutiny, of course. Socialite Kylie Jenner and rapper Travis Scott were briefly one of the hottest A-list couples around. But after two years of making headlines across the world, the pair finally decided to go their separate ways. Why? Well, no one knows for sure – but rumors have continued to surface about the real reason behind the split. Then one family insider appeared to let the cat out of the bag: Kylie’s grandmother Esther.
If you’ve never heard of Esther Jenner before, that’s perhaps not too surprising. After all, Esther’s upbringing was poles apart from that of the world-famous family she would later become a part of. The nonagenarian was, you see, raised on a tiny farm by a family who grew their own vegetables and looked after chickens and cows. But her path changed in 1949, when she gave birth to Bruce Jenner in the New York village of Mount Kisco.
For Bruce would go on to become a household name in the United States after winning a gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Sadly, though, Bruce’s victory in the decathlon was closely followed by a family tragedy. Just three months after the Olympics, in fact, Burt Jenner – Esther’s second son with arborist husband William – lost his life in an automobile accident in Connecticut.
Of course, Bruce would later enjoy a new lease of life in the 21st century as one of the stars of reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Not that Esther can understand its appeal. In 2019 she even told MailOnline, “I wasn’t fond of that program. There was no plot, and why it was such a hit I’ll never know, and I guess it still is.”
In the midst of Kardashian-mania, too, Esther watched her beloved son Bruce transition into a woman named Caitlyn. She coped with this radical change well, however, telling MailOnline, “It’s nothing [Caitlyn] asked for. It’s a condition, and it starts in the mother’s womb.”
And that isn’t the only time that Esther has discussed her family life with a British publication. In 2019, you see, she happily opened up to The Sun Online about her granddaughter Kylie Jenner’s split from then-boyfriend Travis Scott. So here’s a look at the pair’s turbulent relationship and why, according to Esther, they decided to separate.
In April 2017 Kylie first sparked rumors that she was dating Travis when the pair were pictured cozying up to each other at Coachella. And later that same month she joined sister Kendall at the rapper’s birthday bash in New York. Then, in May, Kylie kept Travis company as he traveled the United States on his “Birds Eye View” tour.
But the couple appeared to make things official in June 2017 when they got matching tattoos. Yes, Kylie and Travis both showed off their newly inked legs to their armies of followers on Snapchat. The tats featured tiny butterflies because Travis had previously recorded a track named “Butterfly Effect” – which is said to be about the reality TV star.
Things then got even more serious in September that year when talk emerged about the pitter-patter of tiny feet. Us Weekly in fact reported that Kylie was four months pregnant at the time. And the publication’s story checked out when, in February 2018, the beauty mogul gave birth to Stormi Webster.
So everything appeared to be rosy in the wake of the couple’s new arrival – and not just in their personal lives. You see, Kylie later graced the front cover of the “American’s Women Billionaires” edition of Forbes magazine. And alongside an image of the issue, Travis posted three heart-shaped emojis on Twitter with the caption, “Can’t be more proud.”
Then, in August 2018, the couple opened up to GQ magazine in their first shared interview. Kylie revealed how their relationship started in the wake of their meeting at Coachella too. She recalled, “So he said, ‘I’m going back on tour – what do we want to do about this?’ Because we obviously liked each other. And I was like, ‘I guess I’m going with you.’ I really jumped on the bus. And then we rode off into the sunset.”
“We got to not be who we really were,” continued Kylie. “Like, if we were in L.A., I feel like it would’ve been way different. Everything happened for a reason. We weren’t going out as ‘Kylie and Trav.’ We would just be in Cleveland, walking the street for hours. We would go on walks, and no one would bother us.”
The A-listers then made their personal relationship a professional one when Kylie briefly guested in the promo for Travis’ single, “Stop Trying to Be God.” Holding a lamb and dressed in a gown adorned with sequins, the reality star portrayed the Virgin Mary in the attention-grabbing clip.
But in December 2018 a chaos-causing YouTuber attempted to throw a spanner in the works. Posing as Travis, Christian Adam G filmed himself kissing a girl who definitely wasn’t Kylie. Fortunately, though, the prank didn’t have the desired effect. The rapper later tweeted, “Try again you trolls. Me and my wifey sturdy. Back to [celebrating]!”
Yet Kylie was more fearful than defiant in her response. She took to Instagram to say, “[I don’t know] if this is really a social experiment to some people, but you’re messing with real people, real relationships, real family. I’m happy my relationship is strong because this is getting out of hand. The internet scares me sometimes for real.”
So the pair managed to overcome that scare, and in December 2018 the sound of wedding bells appeared to be just around the corner. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Travis said, “We’ll get married soon. I just gotta sturdy up; I gotta propose in a fire way.”
But just two months later, the couple were forced to deal with yet more infidelity rumors. And this time there appeared to be some substance behind the claims. Travis even canceled a gig to deal with the supposed fallout after Kylie reportedly found evidence that the rapper had been unfaithful.
An unnamed insider had reportedly told gossip magazine Us Weekly that Kylie had found messages that Travis had sent to other girls on Instagram. And the contents of these alleged messages apparently weren’t “exactly appropriate.” A representative for the rapper quickly denied that the show cancelation had been due to any relationship problems, though.
And on the surface, things still appeared to be hunky-dory with the couple. In April 2019, for instance, the pair and daughter Stormi all wore Marvel outfits in aid of Travis’ birthday. Later that month, too, Kylie gushed on Instagram, “Watching you evolve into the partner, friend, son and father you are today has been so fulfilling. My real-life bestie and hubby all wrapped into one. I love you, and I’m so so proud of you. Let’s f*** around and have another baby.”
And the couple certainly seemed keen to try for a second baby – judging by their joint interview with Playboy in September 2019. A candid Kylie told the magazine, “A lot of people claim that having a baby can hurt your sex life. But I feel like that’s the opposite of our experience.”
Yet things appeared to go awry shortly after the publication of their revealing chat with Playboy. For just a month later, Kylie and Travis reportedly decided on a conscious uncoupling. Another anonymous insider apparently told Us Weekly, “Kylie still loves Travis, and this isn’t considered a full break-up to either of them.”
The plot thickened, however, when Kylie was then seen alongside her ex-boyfriend Tyga at a Los Angeles recording studio. The socialite quickly took to Twitter to explain, “The internet makes everything 100 times more dramatic than what it really is… You see me drop two of my friends off at a studio that he happened to be at. Travis and I are on great terms, and our main focus right now is Stormi! Our friendship and our daughter is priority.”
The couple also appeared to put their differences behind them for the sake of their daughter when they spent Thanksgiving weekend together in Palm Springs. But online rumors continued to persist that Kylie had already moved on to another rap star. And this time around it was chart-topper Drake who was connected with the reality TV icon.
In fact, Drake and Kylie first got tongues wagging when they had been spotted at a party around Halloween. A “source” told Us Weekly, “They were affectionate and clearly there together.” Another alleged insider apparently said that although Kylie appeared to have found a new love, Travis had “no ill will to any of Kylie’s friends.”
Travis further suggested he was taking a mature approach to the split in a chat for the winter 2019 issue of XXL Magazine. After gushing over daughter Stormi, he said, “I love her mommy, and I always will… The hard part about relationships is just trying to be in one without a million outside voices interfering.”
So speculation about what had been behind Kylie and Travis’ split has continued to grow online ever since it’d happened. But one particular person very close to Kylie claims that she knows the number-one reason. Yes, in November 2019 Kylie’s grandma Esther Jenner spilled the beans in an interview with The Sun Online.
Then 93 years old, Esther told the British publication that her granddaughter had called her in the wake of her split from Travis. Kylie then apparently revealed on the phone that the rumors about their separation were true. The reality star also seemingly confirmed that the couple still both had Stormi’s best interests at heart.
Speaking from her home in the Idaho area of Lewiston, Esther revealed that she and her granddaughter remain close. She said, “Kylie and I keep in touch, we both have iPhones and FaceTime. She puts the baby on the FaceTime, and I can see her progress. She’s a darling little child.”
Esther then went on to talk about the moment they discussed the split. She added, “I was sympathizing with Kylie a short time ago about the break-up with the baby’s father. Kylie just smoothed over it real quickly: ‘We’re both going to be good parents to her,’ like in defence almost.”
And Esther believes she knows exactly why the celebrity pair decided to call it a day. She told The Sun Online that if Travis had shown more of a commitment to the relationship, then things could possibly have been different. She also acknowledged, “That’s what happens really, so often.”
Esther added, “Young people today, they think they can live together, start a family together, without being married, it doesn’t work! I don’t know.” And Esther sure knows all about the institution of marriage. She was wed to husband – and Caitlyn’s father – William right up until his death in 2000, after all.
Despite her apparent insight into her granddaughter’s break-up, though, Esther revealed that she’d never actually met Travis. And from the sounds of it, she’s far more impressed with another name from the hip-hop world. She told The Sun Online, “I tell you who I was surprised I liked so much… Kanye. He’s very intelligent, and he’s down to earth.”
Neither Kylie nor Travis responded to Esther’s claims around the true reason behind their separation. However, the latter did appear to reference the split in a song he released in the final week of 2019. And it perhaps backs up Esther’s statement that Travis hadn’t been ready to commit.
In the track “Gatti,” Travis raps, “Duck away, she wanna lay up and hibernate… I took a chance, it’s a lot to take.” This arguably suggests that Kylie had indeed wanted to settle down and that Travis – despite his previous comments to Rolling Stone – hadn’t been ready to take the plunge.
According to Hollywood Life, though, Travis still holds out some hope that he will be able to patch things up with Kylie. Yet another supposed insider allegedly told the gossip site that the rapper has become aggrieved whenever anyone refers to the one-time lovebirds as friends. Apparently, you see, this particular F word makes the break-up even more real for the hip-hop star.
The source reportedly added, “[Travis] wants so much more and feels like he is so much more, regardless of where [Kylie’s] head is at. Going into 2020, he will still be the one chasing. Even if [it] ends up being a friendship over a relationship, he still hates that label.”
As for Kylie, it’s fair to say that the end of 2019 wasn’t particularly kind to her. The socialite even began her New Year celebrations by reflecting on the various ups and downs of the previous 12 months. On her Instagram feed, in fact, Kylie revealed that she had suffered a nasty injury around the same time as the split with Travis.
It turned out that in early November Kylie had somehow ended up cracking her wrist in not just one, but two different places. The reality TV star subsequently had to sport a fetching blue brace to support her thumb and wrist. This actually explained why she had been wearing the brace during an image of a night out shortly after the incident.
Interestingly, Kylie had been rumored to have spent some time in hospital just two months before cracking her wrist. The beauty mogul had reportedly suffered from symptoms associated with the flu, such as dizziness and nausea. Thankfully, though, she evidently made a full recovery – as she did with her wrist injury, too.
Kylie also appeared to reference all of her drama in the Instagram post that she uploaded on New Year’s Eve. She captioned a black and white photo of herself, “Happy New Year’s Eve. When you start to feel like things should have been better this year, remember all the mountains and valleys that got you here. There is more to you than yesterday.” Kylie concluded, “2020 positive vibes only.”
