Jenna Dewan started her career as a backing dancer for the likes of Christina Aguilera, Pink and Missy Elliott. But it was when she transitioned to acting that she met the person who would become her husband, Channing Tatum. However, after months of secrecy, it was only in her 2019 memoir that Dewan finally revealed the real reasons behind their painful separation.
Dewan and Tatum met when they co-starred in romantic dance movie Step Up in 2006. Though they initially kept their relationship private, by the time the movie premiered they were official, and they quickly became one of Hollywood’s hottest couples. Their red-carpet shenanigans and public displays of affection melted the hearts of fans. They married in July 2009, while daughter, Everly, arrived in May 2013.
However, Tatum and Dewan announced their separation in April 2018, after nearly nine years of seemingly blissful marriage. Dewan kept quiet about her split from Tatum while she filmed the second series of the TV competition, World Of Dance. And while the couple remain dedicated parents to their daughter, the reasons behind their divorce have not been made public. That is, until now…
Dewan addresses her marriage breakdown in Gracefully You: How to Live Your Best Life Every Day, which is part-memoir and part-wellness manual. She wrote, “I’d come to realize the dynamic I was in wasn’t serving me, nor was it serving my daughter. First and foremost I had to accept the realization this [wasn’t] working and had moved into hurting.”
As difficult as the divorce was for Dewan, the 38-year-old has since found love again with actor Steve Kazee. The couple announced in September 2019 that they were expecting their first child together. Though she and Tatum remain dedicated parents to their daughter, the dancer described herself as “blindsided” when she learned via the internet that her ex-husband was dating singer Jessie J.
