10 Famous Child Stars You Wouldn’t Recognize Today

These ten child stars all charmed our hearts when they appeared on the big and small screens in productions like Jerry Maguire and The Sixth Sense. But it’s been a long time since they found fame as youngsters, and the transformative years in between have seen some of them buff up and others burn out. Would you recognize any of these former child stars from their early roles?

10. Haley Joel Osment

You may not remember Haley Joel Osment as a young Forrest Gump, but you’ll definitely recall how this crazily talented 11-year-old actor saw dead people in The Sixth Sense. He deservedly got an Oscar nod for the role, after all.

Osment has since put on a few pounds, but he is still a presence in both TV and film – although none of his “grown-up” movies have registered quite as successfully as The Sixth Sense. The 27-year-old will next be seen in the Kevin Smith’s comedy-horror Yoga Hosers.

9. Jonathan Lipnicki

Cute-as-a-button Jonathan Lipnicki was just six years old when Jerry Maguire hit theaters, and he was still only nine when he charmed us in Stuart Little. Surely he still can’t be so cute today?

No, not cute; 25-year-old Jonathan Lipnicki grew up hot. His buffed-up topless shots from 2011 understandably got a lot of attention, and he’s still looking good five years later. He hasn’t, however, done much acting work you would have seen lately.

8. Alexa Vega

Alexa Vega’s resume is shockingly extensive, and you’ve probably seen her without knowing it in massive films like Nine Months and Twister. Still, of course, it was her role in Spy Kids while in her early teens that got her global recognition.

But now Vega is 27 years old and has clearly inherited her great looks from her ex-model mom. Work-wise, Vega was last seen on the 21st season of Dancing with the Stars, where she was the seventh celebrity eliminated.

7. Georgie Henley

A ten-year-old Georgie Henley shot to instant fame as the wide-eyed girl in awe of a mystical world in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. In fact, hers was the performance most critics singled out for praise.

Now the stunning 20-year-old attends Clare College in Cambridge, U.K., studying for a degree in English. She’s still acting, too, and has even tried her hand at writing and directing.

6. Angus T. Jones

The once-adorable ten-year-old Angus T. Jones lit up the tube as Jake Harper, the “half” in popular sitcom Two and a Half Men. Jones was so good, in fact, that in 2010 he started being paid a staggering $300,000 per episode.

But in 2012 he told Christianity Today that he was a “paid hypocrite” because he was on an adult-themed show that was at odds with his newfound religion. The 22-year-old only appeared in the series finale after that, and these days he’s lost the cherub face and discovered scraggly hair and a beard.

5. Jerry O’Connell

An 11-year-old Jerry O’Connell took the role of Vern Tessio in classic 1986 movie Stand By Me. It was his first film – and probably still his most fondly remembered character.

Now in his 40s, Jerry O’Connell has trimmed down and scored himself a gorgeous wife in the shape of X-Men’s Rebecca Romijn. The biggest movie credit he’s had lately, though, was Piranha 3D.

4. Nicholas Hoult

A pre-teen Nicholas Hoult won us over as that awkward kid in 2002 comedy About a Boy alongside Hugh Grant. The film grossed more than $100 million at the box office.

Fortunately for Hoult, he’s now not only got the looks of a leading man, but he’s also got the career of one. Indeed, his next film is going to be the huge blockbuster X-Men: Apocalypse.

3. Taylor Momsen

Seven-year-old Taylor Momsen shows up every holiday season singing “Where Are You, Christmas?” in Ron Howard’s How The Grinch Stole Christmas. You might also recognize her from drama series Gossip Girl.

But she put acting on hold in 2011 to front the rock band The Pretty Reckless. And it’s no surprise that the 22-year-old was voted Hottest Female at the Kerrang! Awards in 2014.

2. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato starred alongside fellow Disney alumni Selena Gomez in the American children’s TV series Barney and Friends. She was only ten years old when she started on the show.

Now the 23-year-old Lovato is a certified pop star, with five successful albums to her name as well as numerous acting credits. Plus, in 2013 Maxim magazine readers voted her the 26th sexiest woman alive.

1. Jake Lloyd

At seven years old Jake Lloyd held his own opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Jingle All The Way, and at ten he played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. But just two years later he had quit acting for good.

He popped up in 2012, though, to tell the Daily Mail that Star Wars made his childhood a “living hell.” And then in 2015 the 26-year-old was arrested in South Carolina for reckless driving and resisting arrest.
