We all know that film stars earn much bigger pay packets than the average Joe does, so it comes as no surprise that they have far bigger houses, too. But sometimes we get the sneaky suspicion that big-name actors only invest in their pricey pads to make their less fortunate fans jealous. It’s certainly impossible to look at these 20 jaw-dropping movie star homes and not feel more than a smidgen of envy.
19. Denzel Washington
Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington owns an equally accolade-deserving house. The American Gangster star’s impressive estate sits on 1.5 acres of land in Beverly Hills and features a pool, a tennis court and stellar views. Washington can also borrow the occasional cup of sugar from neighbors Sylvester Stallone or Eddie Murphy.
18. Jeremy Irons
He’s best known for his villainous roles in films like The Lion King and Die Hard: With a Vengeance, so it’s perhaps fitting that Jeremy Irons’ home resembles a likely dwelling for one of his characters. Irons bought the medieval Kilcoe Castle in Ireland in 1998 and spent $1.6 million on renovations, including a rusty pink paint job – which we assume was intended to help soften his dastardly on-screen image.
17. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones stretch the idea of a “home away from home” to its limits with this elegant $11 million retreat. Located an hour away from their main Manhattan property, the 15,458-square-foot vacation house in Westchester, New York has it all: tennis courts, stables, and high-profile neighbors like former president Bill Clinton.
16. Leonardo DiCaprio
If you can’t afford to live the high life, maybe Leonardo DiCaprio can help you sample a taste of it. The actor snapped up this 7,000-square-foot property in Palm Springs, California – whose former residents include Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor – for $5.2 million. However, Leo likes to rent it out when he’s away for a measly $4,500 – a night! This fee includes access to all house amenities, such as a pool, tennis courts and a thermal spa.

15. Bruce Willis
Bruce Willis is less of an everyman than his Die Hard character Detective John McClane might have moviegoers believe. The actor’s 8,400-square-foot Brentwood, New York home cost him $9 million – a hell of a lot more than the average police officer’s salary – and includes a wine cellar with space for 1,500 bottles, as well as a 50-foot swimming pool.
14. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
If living in a palatial mansion isn’t your thing, then you share something in common with Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. When back in their native Australia, the down-to-earth couple like to relax with six pet alpacas on their sprawling $4.6 million cattle ranch, which is spread out over 100 acres in New South Wales.

13. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie
As actors, film producers and humanitarians, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are certified workaholics. And even when they’re at home in their $60 million French estate in Provence, the two can’t seem to switch off. They use the 1,000-acre property – which includes 74 acres of vineyards – to make and sell their own wine, under the Miraval label.
12. Cameron Diaz
When your house is grand enough to host weddings, you know you’ve stumbled upon a fine place in which to live. Purchased from Candice Bergen, Cameron Diaz’s $10 million English country home-style residence in Beverly Hills spans 5,000 square feet and was the location of her nuptials to husband Benji Madden in early 2015. Perhaps she was inspired by her character’s Surrey, England vacation digs in The Holiday.

11. Tommy Lee Jones
Men in Black star Tommy Lee Jones doesn’t horse around when it comes to picking a home. A polo enthusiast, Jones has 24-7 access to a regulation-sized polo field on his 55-acre Wellington, Florida estate – which is currently for sale. Still, the lifestyle accoutrements of the actor’s hobby clearly don’t come cheap: the house is valued at a hefty $20 million.
10. George Clooney
George Clooney is known for his suave style and sophisticated taste, and unsurprisingly his house matches this debonair image. Situated on the picture-perfect banks of Italy’s Lake Como, the $10 million property – which the actor has owned since 2002 – dates back to the 18th century and features stunning views, not to mention stellar neighbors like Madonna and Richard Branson.

9. Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart
When he’s not raiding tombs for lost treasure or fighting a war in a galaxy far, far away, Harrison Ford stays grounded in his 13,700-square-foot, seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom, six-fireplace home in LA’s well-heeled Brentwood neighborhood. Bought for $12.6 million, the property – which the actor shares with wife Calista Flockhart – also boasts its own guest house and home movie theater.
8. Richard Gere
When at home, well-known Buddhist Richard Gere is at one with nature. His $56 million turn-of-the-20th-century estate in the exclusive Hamptons East Coast resort area features incredible gardens built into its 6.3-acre spread not to mention its own dock. Currently on the market, the house also comes complete with an outdoor fireplace pavilion and a basketball court – for those Phil Jackson-style meditation sessions.
7. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Much like his The Other Guys co-star Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson decided to build his own dream home – in Johnson’s case out of the $4.5 million house he bought in Broward County, South Florida. Covering 13,000 square feet, The Rock’s mansion – which he spent $3.4 million constructing in 2014 – has half a dozen bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a swimming pool, a gym and a home theater.

6. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith
The cachet of owning a big house is not enough for some celebs – like Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. The power couple’s $20 million Calabasas, California estate is so big – covering a whopping 25,000 square feet – that it even has its own U.S. Postal Service-registered zip code. The mega-home features a lake gazebo, a recording studio, a screening room, and a meditation room with spherical skylights.

5. Adam Sandler
Real estate is clearly no laughing matter to comedian Adam Sandler. The star – whose net worth is $300 million – bought this luxurious pad in LA’s chichi Bel Air neighborhood in 1999, and it’s valued at $42.5 million. Along with the usual amenities, it also features a pool and a hillside tennis court. We wonder how many tennis balls end up in the neighbor’s garden.

4. Channing Tatum
He may be relatively new to Hollywood, but Channing Tatum has already snagged himself a prime piece of tinseltown real estate. His $6 million mid-20th-century home in the Beverly Hills postal area was formerly owned by Hollywood royal Carrie Fisher and features more than 4,800 square feet of living space as well as a pool, a gym and neighbors Demi Moore and Harry Styles.

3. John Travolta
The worst part of traveling are the hours spent waiting at airport terminals. Most likely, this inconvenience is what influenced John Travolta to purchase this amazing 6,400-square-foot home-cum-airport. The $3.5 million Ocala, Florida property is kitted out with two runways where the actor – a qualified pilot – can taxi his Boeing 707 and other planes.
2. Jamie Foxx
Never known to settle for half measures, stylish actor Jamie Foxx has gone all out with his fantastic $10.5 million mansion. The 17,000-square-foot presidential-looking home sits on 40 acres of land in Ventura Country, California and features ten bedrooms, a dozen bathrooms, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a spa and tennis courts.

1. Mark Wahlberg
Why buy a fabulous mansion when you can build your own from scratch? In 2009 Mark Wahlberg purchased a six-acre house in LA’s Beverly Park neighborhood and then put his crew to work on it, building a custom 30,000-square-foot dream mega-home. After five years of construction, the estate Wahlberg had paid $8 million for was finally complete with its own gym, wine cellar, movie theater and basketball court.
