How would you picture the house of a wild-living rock star who’s described himself as a Devil Without a Cause and a Soul Rebel? A bachelor pad with a hot tub in every room and beer cans strewn everywhere, perhaps? Well, prepare to be amazed by this look inside the Malibu mansion that redneck hero Kid Rock put up for sale.
The Grammy-nominated rapper and singer bought the 1.5-acre, 8,305-square-foot property in 2006 for $11.6 million, four years after it was built. “I wanted a place that was comfortable and fun, where I could kick back, write music and hang out with friends,” Rock told the LA Times magazine in 2008.
The property was acquired shortly after Rock got hitched to Pamela Anderson in July 2006, but it wasn’t long before the couple ran into difficulties. Just four months after their wedding the celebrity couple got divorced.
The loud-and-proud Rock tried to sell the palatial house in 2013 for $13.45 million, but due to a lack of interest he took it off the market. He later relisted it for $12.75 million but was eventually forced to drop to $12.495 million.
Perhaps Kid’s rock-and-roll reputation deterred potential buyers. But far from the trashy décor one may have expected, Rock’s home was in fact tastefully styled by celebrity designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard.
The handmade wooden beams and whitewashed walls give the mansion’s interior a Balinese-inspired appearance. Several statues inspired by Indonesian island province can be found in various rooms, too.
Rock, who also owns houses in Clarkston, Michigan and Jupiter, Florida, isn’t the only celebrity with a pad in the exclusive Malibu neighborhood of Point Dume. Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand, Pink, Anthony Hopkins and Matthew McConaughey also have properties there.
This framed print of Rock performing in front of a large crowd is the only real indication that the abode belongs to him. There aren’t even any photos on the staircase in the background.
It’s difficult to imagine Rock throwing wild parties here. In fact, this bright and surprisingly sensible living room looks more suited to an afternoon tea party than a night of hard drinking.
Rock and his posse certainly wouldn’t get caught short during a stay here – this is just one of five bathrooms dotted around the place. With its carved wood furniture and super-sized mirrors it’s the most ornate.
This super-sized kitchen could accommodate even the biggest rock star entourage. Although whether anything other than Rock’s favorite dish of mac and cheese gets served here remains a mystery.
This tasteful master bedroom is just one of five sleeping quarters in the house, while there’s also a guesthouse overlooking the pool. This basically means Kid Rock never has an excuse when unwanted houseguests arrive.
The outside of the property is just as stunning as the inside. This sweeping balcony – complete with wooden furniture and colorful cushions – is the ideal place to enjoy the gardens below.
The house and its grounds also cater for those who prefer to enjoy the weather at ground level. With its zebra-themed pillows, this tiled patio has something of a safari or jungle-lodge theme.
Former wife Pamela Anderson famously went bankrupt after tiling her pool using platinum. Rock’s stunning pool, however, proves you don’t need atomic number 78 to have a luxurious swim.
All four spare bedrooms have a private bathroom, while the master bedroom features two walk-in wardrobes. The property also boasts a gym, an office, a sauna and a cinema for when Rock wants to watch himself in Joe Dirt and Biker Boyz.
Rock doesn’t seem like the dinner party kind of guy, but appearances can be deceptive. Sean Penn, Josh Groban and Lionel Richie have all eaten in this rustic-themed dining room over the years.
Rock has left traces of his occasionally wild persona scattered throughout the house. The master bathroom features a couple of framed dominatrix photos, while a stripper pole was once placed beside the grand piano.
According to Jeremy Deputat, the photographer behind the book I’m Kid Rock, What’s Your Excuse?, the star has a thing for upmarket properties. “All of his houses are super dope,” he told the Huffington Post. “He loves antiques. On tour promoters gave him antiques and heirlooms from each area at every show. He’s got quite a collection of stuff.”
With another of Rock’s properties – namely his Nashville townhouse – on the market for a relatively knock-down price, there’s never been a better time for Kid Rock fans to own one of their hero’s homes. And they needn’t worry about doing any decorating once they move in.
