As a member of the Kardashian clan, Kendall Jenner is used to having her every move scrutinized by the press and the public alike. But even she was taken aback by the recent furor surrounding a seemingly innocuous Instagram snap. Here’s how the model/TV personality inadvertently sparked a social media guessing game.
Born in Los Angeles in 1995 to Kris and Caitlyn Jenner, Kendall Jenner grew up with younger sister Kylie and half-siblings Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and Rob Kardashian. She also has four other half-siblings: Brandon, Sam, Burt and Casey Lynn Jenner. And of course, her family shot to fame in 2007 thanks to E! reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
But Jenner began making a name for herself in 2009 when she joined up with Wilhelmina Models aged just 14. She subsequently posed for magazines, such as Teen Vogue and American Cheerleader, and appeared in campaigns for Leah Madden, Agua Bendita and White Sands Australia. Four years later, she switched to high fashion by joining the books of The Society Management.
Jenner then became the toast of the fashion world when she strutted the catwalks during fashion weeks in Milan, Paris and New York. She also represented the Estée Lauder brand, appeared in Vogue editions around the globe and modeled for Victoria’s Secret. Unsurprisingly, then, in 2017 Forbes magazine named her the world’s best-paid model.
And that’s not the only time Jenner has hit the heights. For instance, People magazine placed her in the top 50 for good looks in 2014. That same year, Time hailed her and sister Kylie for their positive influence, and the next year, Jenner’s sex appeal was noted by FHM.
But Jenner has been keen to prove that she’s more than just a pretty face. To this end, she’s launched various cosmetic and fashion lines with her sisters as well as numerous mobile apps. Moreover, she’s also pursued a sideline in photography and co-authored the novel Rebels: City of Indra.
And alongside Keeping Up with the Kardashians and its various spin-offs, Jenner appeared on screen as an actress in an episode of Hawaii Five-O. She also graced music videos for One Call, The Black Eyed Peas and PartyNextDoor and filmed a cameo for Ocean’s 8. In 2015 she co-hosted both the Much Music Video Awards and Billboard Music Awards with sister Kylie.
Interestingly, Jenner’s various career pursuits allowed her to purchase a two-bedroom condo in L.A. for $1.4 million in 2014. Three years later, she also bought a residence in secluded Mulholland Estates. Seemingly unlike most of her family, though, she prefers to keep quiet about her personal life, describing herself as shy on her official blog.
However, Jenner’s career did suffer a setback in 2017 when she fronted a misjudged TV campaign for Pepsi. The ad, “Live for Now,” saw the model try to end a conflict between cops and protestors simply by handing out a soft drink. Critics subsequently argued that the ad trivialized anti-brutality campaigns, and Pepsi promptly dropped it.
But interest in Jenner is now at an all-time high. In April 2017, for instance, she was announced as one of Instagram’s top 15 most popular stars with a whopping 86.3 million followers. And it was on this social media platform that Jenner recently got everyone’s tongues wagging with a seemingly innocuous snap.
Four days after Christmas 2017, Jenner uploaded a selfie to Instagram that featured her posing in front of a bathroom mirror. Sporting a black and white polka dress, the star captioned the image, “loner life.” But thanks to the way her outfit clung to her waist, many fans believed she was in fact with child.
“She does look pregnant. Is this a Jenner family thing to fool everyone and later say YES I’m having a bambino?” commented one fan. Another convinced follower stated, “Thats about a late 3 early 4 month bump.” “Waitttttt. Is that a baby bump?” asked one presumably excited individual.
The speculation possibly grew as a result of the recent wave of babies in Jenner’s family. Indeed, her half-sibling Kim Kardashian welcomed her third child with Kanye West via surrogate in January 2018. Then sister Kylie gave birth to her first child with rapper boyfriend Travis Scott in February 2018.
Cheekily, Jenner had actually earlier referenced all the pregnancy speculation with another amusing social media post, this time on Instagram. The star had uploaded a highly stylish image of her posing inside her beloved vintage car, a blue and pink Cadillac. She captioned the picture, “MY BABY.”
In the latest case, however, it was the fan who wrote, “Maybe she eating good” who proved to be closer to the truth. For Jenner quashed all the rumors just 24 hours later by retweeting an article about her apparent pregnancy alongside a humorous message. She said, “I just like bagels ok!!!”
Jenner’s fans subsequently took to social media to blast those who had sparked all the pregnancy rumors. “What gives people the right to judge her body shape/size? I’m sure if she wasn’t a Jenner/Kardashian then this would be called body shaming?” commented one particular follower. Another stated, “It’s the season of good food, good wine and good company… honestly.”
It’s not the first time that Jenner has been the subject of such gossip, either. Just two months previously, Media Take Out speculated that the star was with child after noting her “bit of a belly bulge.” Jenner then appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show shortly after to mock all the pregnancy rumors.
Of course, Jenner isn’t the only celebrity who’s recently sparked talk of pregnancy thanks to a holiday Instagram pic. In fact, Miley Cyrus was forced to deny reports that she was expecting after posting a pre-Thanksgiving image on the social media platform. She tweeted in response, “RUDE!!! Not pregnant just eating a s- ton of tofurkey.”
Ivanka Trump also got tongues wagging in early 2018 when she posted a picture featuring her holding her middle while standing next to husband Jared Kushner. The First Daughter was indeed pregnant in the photo. But it was taken two years ago when Trump was carrying son Theodore.
Although Jenner isn’t pregnant, she isn’t averse to talking about the subject. In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the star told celebrity interviewer Cara Delevingne, “It’s going to be interesting to see what the world is like when I do have kids. But I definitely don’t plan on having them anytime soon.”
