Lee Brice is surely one of the most well recognized country singers working today. Despite only being 38 years old, he’s broken the top 10 in the Hot Country Music Billboard charts numerous times. In 2010, his song “Love Like Crazy” broke the record for longest time spent in the Hot Country chart, having stayed there for 56 weeks.
Since his career jumpstarted in 2007, Brice has made the news because of his personal life almost as often as for his music. Refreshingly though, it’s not because he’s any kind of train wreck. If anything, he’s the complete opposite.
Brice married his long-time girlfriend, Sara Nanette Reeveley, in 2013, but even before that the couple had two children. Takoda was the first, born in 2008, and Ryker was the second, born in 2013. This year, they welcomed their third child into the world, a girl.
During Sara’s pregnancy, Brice kept close tabs on progress and posted about it on Instagram frequently. Then, he even devised an interesting way of revealing the baby’s gender to her two soon-to-be brothers – having them both bite into cupcakes with pink filling.
Brice also uploaded an adorable video of the baby kicking. In it, he taps on Sara’s belly, only for the unborn child to respond with a tap of her own. The movement coming from the inside can be seen clearly in the video.
Even outside of their children, Brice and his wife have a charming family history. Despite only having married in 2013, they’ve known each other for years. In fact, when the pair met for the first time, Brice was only 18 years old.
Brice was walking along Myrtle Beach in South Carolina with some friends on the lookout for girls when Reeveley happened to walk past in the other direction. Brice saw her and promised his friends that if she turned back, he’d go after her. Sure enough, she did.
It wasn’t exactly plain sailing from there though. Brice was living in South Carolina at the time, whilst Reeveley was studying in Ohio. It wasn’t until later, when Brice happened to be touring in her area, that he looked her up for real.
From then on, Reeveley provided a key source of inspiration for Brice. One of his most well known songs, “I Don’t Dance,” was originally intended for her alone. Brice had never planned to release it, but when he did, footage from the couple’s wedding was included in the video.
Brice has kept up an extensive touring schedule throughout their marriage, but he credits Reeveley as being “superhuman” in her efforts to help him and keep the ever-growing family functioning smoothly, something which will likely be even harder with a third child in the mix.
The new baby was born at 9:00 a.m. on June 2, weighing in at 7 pounds and 13 ounces. The overjoyed couple were sharing images of her on Brice’s Instagram within a few days of the birth, expressing their happiness and, crucially, revealing the child’s name…
Takoda and Ryker aren’t exactly the most conventional of baby names, but with the third addition the couple went one further. In all likelihood, they gave her a name that might just be completely unique – Trulee Nanette Brice.
The choice of Nanette is easy to understand, as it’s Reeveley’s middle name, but the first name might seem like something of an odd choice. While it’s not uncommon for famous couples to pick outlandish names for their kids, there are probably only a handful of Trulees in the world.
In truth, the first name is directly related to the second. According to Reeveley herself, “the meaning of [Nanette] is ‘grace,’ so we felt connected to it.” So, in that sense, Trulee Nanette roughly translates to “Truly Graceful.”
Strange as the choice may seem, Brice has never been shy about expressing his love for his children in creative ways. Much as “I Don’t Dance” is about Reeveley, Brice dedicated “Boy” to his two young sons, who both feature in the video as well.
Since Trulee was born, Brice and Reeveley have relayed that their sons have been the perfect siblings. Reeveley described how they “both spoke in soft voices and treated her like the fragile little flower that she is. We are very proud of the love they displayed.”
In the meantime, Brice’s schedule hasn’t exactly gotten any lighter. In fact, he’s working on a new, self-titled album. This will be his fourth studio album to date, and it promises to contain some of Brice’s most personal, meaningful material yet.
“Boy” is set to feature on the album, but there’s another track that stands out for similar reasons. It’s entitled “The Best Part of Me” and, almost as if to even things out, it’s completely dedicated to Trulee — and presumably inspired by her as well.
As for Trulee herself, she is apparently fitting into the family unit remarkably well. In a recent interview, Brice revealed that his younger son Ryker “growls at her! He’ll get up in her little face and be like ‘Grrr!’ And now she’s starting to try to growl back.”
Growling aside, Brice has confirmed that Trulee is “a little angel,” which should come as no surprise in such a loving family. Certainly, she’s living up to the unique, charming name that her parents chose for her.
